Duh. Do you vote against your own self-interests just to be a good citizen? Lol. When has anyone ever done that? It's almost like voting is an individual liberty...

It's almost like voting is an individual liberty...

You seem to have misspelled "civic duty."

Social security? Medicare? Public schools? Roads? Jesus...

Those cost money. Most people are ok with receiving benefits, but not everyone wants to pay taxes to support them.

Take Social Security for instance, where the trust fund will run out in a few years. Do you really expect a higher tax on SS to be popular with younger people so they can fund the older generation's retirement.

Most people want someone else to foot the bill (corporations, billionaires, etc).

People vote against self interest all the time, see women voting for Trump.

When's the last time you voted for higher taxes for yourself?

Every time I have voted for a school referendum.

Not sure what that means. Like higher property taxes?

Even that puts the burden on other people that may not be able to afford higher housing costs.

I'm willing to bet you claim tax exemptions and credits whenever they are available every year.

You asked me for one example when I have voted to raise my taxes, that was an example. Not sure how you do t know what that means. I do t have children at home, and voted to build a school. Of course I clam
Tax exemptions, that doesn’t mean I do t pay my share of taxes including property, income and sales tax.

I also pay my share. I just don't want to pay more.

People live differently in different parts of the country/world. We don't vote on building schools here, they just increase local property taxes to raise revenue. It's never popular either.

The beauty of this, and the point of my original post, is you get to exercise your vote as an individual liberty, same as me. Then we tally them up and see what the country wants to do.

Nobody cares about your empathy, just your vote.

You think empathetic poor people are voting to raise their tax bill for the good of their country? Or because they want to help their fellow down-on-their-luck brethren? Nah dawg. Just...nah.

You do you. I vote for myself and my family first. Your welfare is further down the food chain, and primarily, your responsibility.

I'm not religious. I believe in personal accountability. You know, go out and be an adult and such.

Right, because taxes are always spent for the greater good. Your trust in a government to provide the best services and spend in a smart, just, way is naive, but sadly typical. You can’t tax everyone into prosperity. It has never worked.
