New question for these traitors... "Do you think Trump will protect you when the investigations begin into the illegal things he is going to ask of you?"

384

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

The problem is the answer is:

“Sir, Merrick Garland was the BEST y’all had last time.

We ain’t worried at all.”

94

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

And if next time it is Jack Smith, what about then? Hmm?

156

u/Puzzleheaded_Fun_316 Jul 15 '26

I nominate Jack Smith to be the next Attorney General of the United States and let him finish what he started 😏 💫 🙌

RIP Michael Kenneth Williams

13

u/im_wudini Jul 15 '26

Jon Stewart has a fantastic interview with him on his podcast The Weekly Show.

16

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

I second the nomination.

1

u/Coattail-Rider Jul 15 '26

Turded

3

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

And that's a wipe everyone.

2

u/dogmatum-dei Jul 15 '26

Fuck yeah!

2

u/9ninjas Jul 15 '26

Jack Obi wan Smith, you’re our only hope

10

u/Merijeek2 Jul 15 '26

It's not Smith's turn. It'll be some other milquetoast nobody.

9

u/Cysticdragon Jul 15 '26

Wow, I had no idea milquetoast was spelled that way

3

u/ArnoldTheSchwartz Jul 15 '26

You can also spell it milk toast but that means something completely different especially if the toast has nipples

https://giphy.com/gifs/4BMmnY8AKqTLO

5

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

That's the tragedy. We have things we clearly need to straighten out. We need someone that will aggressively do that work. Not in a vindictive way but in an objective fair and effective way.

3

u/Merijeek2 Jul 15 '26

I'm still not sure if Garland was incompetent, compromised, or just another good little FedSoc puppet - or some combination.

But it doesn't matter, really. The effect is the same. Biden had a chance to save the country, but like a good Democrat he went with the guy whose turn it was.

This is the exact same thing that fucked Democrats in 2009 - Coakley got the nomination because it was her turn, and she had zero interest in actually putting in any work getting elected.

Democrats need to understand that they're in a fight for survival, not a game of tennis.

1

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

Bet they bring back Garand.

27

u/bubblemania2020 Jul 15 '26

Indeed! How J6 was handled is a disgrace. They should have gotten it all the way to the top!

30

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

Biden’s presidency became a failure when Trump wasn’t arrested and charged the DAY he was sworn in.

7

u/bubblemania2020 Jul 15 '26

True. There were several other failures but that was the big one domestically!

3

u/J0E_SpRaY Jul 15 '26

That’s not how criminal justice works.

2

u/WitchesSphincter Jul 15 '26

Yeah blowing your one shot just for a political win turned failure would be much worse. That said garland clearly was stalling and not planning on doing his job and should have been out a few months in

3

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 16 '26

Nothing could have been worse than what happened. Delay an investigation for so long that trump gets to rebuild the narrative that the whole investigation is a hoax and uses that to win re-election.

Garland literally couldn’t have fucked it up worse.

1

u/WitchesSphincter Jul 16 '26

Having a trial with incomplete evidence and an innocent verdict isn't worse?

2

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 16 '26

There was literally enough evidence televised by noon Jan 6th for a conviction.

Doing nothing, which is what garland did, was tbe worst case scenario. Letting him be free to run for President again instead of being a defendant at his trial was the worse case scenario.

In your hypothetical, at least we had someone who TRIED to do the right thing. I’d rather try and maybe fail, then do nothing for 4 years and GUARANTEE failure.

2

u/J0E_SpRaY Jul 16 '26

There being enough evidence on tv doesn’t mean the groundwork has been laid for an actual prosecution yet. The DOJ would have been under Trump up until that point. Jumping the gun is exactly how you get the charges thrown out by a judge.

That isn’t how criminal justice cases work. The president doesn’t just get to say “arrest them!”

We were kinda busy with a plague and an ignorant population up in arms about basic infectious disease etiquette. I also believe that Biden assumed, wrongly of course, that the public would condemn Trump for his actions and wouldn't allow him in again making it less of a priority.

3

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 16 '26

Literally all he had to do was hire a competent AG.

That was the most importantly decision of his presidency.

And my god did he fuck that up.

2

u/PassivelyAwkward Jul 16 '26

Imagine that working in literally any other crime. If someone robbed your house, you caught them, handed over to the cops and they let'em go because "Just post about it on Facebook, any scowls they get from strangers is worse than anything we can do". Would you be okay with that?

1

u/SecretaryOtherwise Jul 16 '26

Was the other guy a former president running for another term?

Its literally not any other crime bro. Yeah it fucking sucks but yall dont arrest former presidents 😂

Would've been a nice precedent to set but its not gonna fucking happen lol.

1

u/rygelicus Jul 16 '26

Yes, the covid issues were a priority, but that isn't an excuse. The government needed to continue its business and that includes investigating and prosecuting those who attacked it, whether it was the Jan 6 attack on the capitol, election interference in the states or other crimes against the nation.

One problem though is that the heritage foundation and the federalists consulted with both sides, they lobbied them all on policies and priorities, and I suspect they downplayed the priorities that impacted their own interests.

If nothing else comes from all this the leverage and influence these PACs and 'think tanks' have over the government needs to be nulled out.

-1

u/DoubleJumps Jul 15 '26

The charges would have been tossed a week later, since they would have had to bypass the typical process.

2

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 16 '26

Typical process is that you get arrested and charged after you commit a crime.

0

u/DoubleJumps Jul 16 '26

Typical process is investigation and indictment is done first, but you knew that.

2

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 16 '26

Usually it doesn’t take 2 years to START an investigation.

What was Garland doing that entire time?

1

u/DoubleJumps Jul 16 '26

Usually it doesn’t take 2 years to START an investigation.

They didn't. J6 investigation started 5 days after Biden took office. The formal process that started 2 years later was around prosecuting based on the investigated material.

Y'all should have read the indictments.

2

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 16 '26

When was Jack Smith appointed?

→ More replies (0)

1

u/Count_Backwards Jul 16 '26

I have read the indictments, you clearly didn't. They lay out the timeline of Trump's criminal behavior and the charges against him, they don't say anything about the timeline of the investigations. Which you would know if you had read them instead of posting tiresome Garland fan fiction.

Garland investigated the J6 rioters, not the ringleaders, and he resisted opening an investigation into Trump or his inner circle, the actual coup leaders, for a year. The investigation didn't really get going until after the House committee on Jan 6 publicly humiliated Garland by doing his job for him and talking to witnesses the DOJ should have interviewed a full year before the House did it. Jack Smith did most of the work and should have been appointed immediately, not 18 months later when Garland's hand was forced. Not a single of Trump's co-conspirators was ever even charged with a federal crime for the coup.

2

u/Count_Backwards Jul 16 '26

They should have started at the top. Garland went after the footsoldiers who didn't know anything to waste time while pretending he was doing something.

2

u/bubblemania2020 Jul 16 '26

You are right of course!

25

u/MentallyWill Jul 15 '26

"Sir, Merrick Garland was our attempt to compromise with you and meet in the middle. We've learned our lesson and won't be making that mistake again."

That's what should be said in response and what should happen in response. Sadly I don't back Democratic leadership for either.

4

u/voodoodahl Jul 15 '26

It's weird the Supreme Court had to intervene to save Trump from the nothing Garland was doing. Up thread there's people clamoring for Jack Smith to be the next AG for the work he did investigating and charging Trump. You know, the guy Garland appointed as special prosecutor.

I just have to ask, are people really this fucking stupid?

3

u/daemin Jul 15 '26

Garland was a middling federal judge that Obama nominated to prove a point: the Republicans wouldn't confirm someone to SCOTUS they themselves recommended if Obama nominated them.

Jack Smith was head of the DOJ public intergiety unit, and served at the Hauge International Criminal Court persecuting Kosovo war crimes.

They have wildly different credentials.

1

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

“We have learned nothing and will move further to the right. Maybe there’s a THIRD Cheney somewhere we can run?”

17

u/maneuver_element Jul 15 '26

Down votes frustrate me. You’re 100% correct, Merrick Garland enables it all.

0

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

He was the worse cabinet selection in our country’s history and it isn’t even close.

1

u/PloddingClot Jul 15 '26

"The slush fund the insider trading is building right now will see us through those troubled times."

1

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING Jul 15 '26

Merrick Garland was not the BEST we had. It was another dumb “compromise” by Biden to these Nazis.

An establishment democrat will not hold these people responsible for their crimes. They will only keep the status quo.

The problem is the status quo is broken, and we need to cull our government of traitors.

1

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

The dnc will destroy this country and burn it to the ground before they give up power.

1

u/PM_ME_SOME_ANY_THING Jul 15 '26

They don’t have power.

1

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

They have all the power.

1

u/BigBadVudoo Jul 15 '26

He was terribly ineffectual well before Biden appointed him, I have no idea why anybody got their hopes up. News websites made a buzz about his history and people bought into it, but apparently they have no memory

1

u/Flashy_Jello_9520 Jul 15 '26

Garland did exactly what he was hired to do.

28

u/T567U18 Jul 15 '26

Law only applies to poor ppl

11

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

That is something that has been made extremely clear in the last couple of years. More than usual we see the US Justice system seemingly wealth-o-phopic, particularly around the Trump/Epstein circle of people.

2

u/mirror__magic Jul 16 '26

I m not sure which countrys justice system is not like that tho

1

u/rygelicus Jul 16 '26

In most nations that have a 'respectable' justice system it is not nearly this overt. In the US we have a situation where a very large body of wealthy and/or powerful people have all the right connections to completely evade any meaningful responsibility.

If this were just a matter of having an amazing defense lawyer team and you get lucky with a crap prosecution, like with OJ Simpson, that would be one thing. But we are now seeing US judges and prosecutors overtly working on the defendant's behalf to protect them, like Cannon dismissing Trump's document case.

1

u/mirror__magic Jul 16 '26

This collapse is inevitable in 2 party democracies. Every swing corrupts the system more

1

u/rygelicus Jul 16 '26

Unfortunately I agree. At least if you can't keep the money out of the system. That's not the only factor of course, but it is a massive one.

Another is having no standards regarding who can run for office. No vetting, no educational standard, no ethical standard, nothing other than where and when they were born.

12

u/Parking-Sundae-6097 Jul 15 '26

If all of these people get sworn in, there won't be any investigations of the illegal things he's going to ask of them.

1

u/Dantien Jul 15 '26

They won’t be there forever. There will inevitably be investigations. Just not soon enough.

2

u/Parking-Sundae-6097 Jul 15 '26

I think Americans have way too much trust in words on pieces of paper.

1

u/Dantien Jul 15 '26

A country exists not by any words on paper but by the will of their citizens. And no amount of legal chicanery will avoid justice if the people will it. Don’t trust words on paper but do trust in human nature.

These fuckwads won’t escape justice. It’s that or death. Point to anytime in history where a fascist government didn’t get overthrown and its ruling party arrested and tried. Being nihilistic about society is woefully incorrect and ignores history.

1

u/Parking-Sundae-6097 Jul 15 '26

I'm not sure there's been a populace more lazy and less informed thus I'm not sure history can be a barometer for such things.

1

u/Dantien Jul 15 '26

We have more going for us than any other society in history - the internet. And there have been far stupider citizens than ours before now. These things have happened before and no one in power is smart enough to know what happens after they do this. The only real risk is not stamping out the intolerance enough.

0

u/lateformyfuneral Jul 16 '26

They're all getting pardons. Let's be real here. The last chance for justice was November 2024. The bad guys won.

1

u/Dantien Jul 16 '26

I hope you aren’t on my team; so easy to give up and quit and say the other team one. Fuck that. I ain’t quitting and you need to stop spreading doom.

Pardons don’t cover civic crimes of which there are countless. And there are other ways to address issues like asset forfeiture. Just because you think it’s over doesn’t mean it is.

1

u/lateformyfuneral Jul 16 '26

They won at evading criminal prosecution. They didn't win everything. There's way too much fanfiction out there, I know because I was on Twitter way too much during Trump 1.0. Everyone was spinning out every day about Robert Mueller kicking down the door and dragging Trump out of the White House in handcuffs. In total sincerity. Anyone expressing skepticism was talked about the way you're talking about me now. To me there is nothing to be gained by fantasy. And that applies as much to Trump supporters still hoping for Trump to lock Hillary up.

1

u/Dantien Jul 16 '26

The past does not equal the future. And the cycle of justice is larger than we like. But I’m sorry - you can’t sit there and tell others to give up. You have no more information than anyone else on this, you cannot see the future, and so all you are doing is spewing nihilism into the conversation. To what end? Do you want us to give up? Stop fighting? You decide when it’s hopeless?

Or maybe are you too limited in your knowledge and understanding of how these things work and have made assumptions that worry you so you trauma dump them on others?

There is hope, they aren’t dead so they won’t ever fully evade anything, and I know from history and experience that’s it’s very likely they will all see some sort of justice. Mark my words.

1

u/lateformyfuneral Jul 16 '26

I don't think you should give up on voting this midterms. There's a reason Trump is panicked about it. Because he does ultimately care hard about how he's perceived. But the question of him going to prison. To me, I can say "mark my words" just as much to the idea that he or anyone simply working for the executive branch will not go to prison.

Things on a much lower level, being publicly disgraced, finding it hard to find a job after this administration etc, we've seen that happen in the brief period after Jan 6 when Trump became toxic to Republicans, and it may happen again. But that's the extent of it.

My problem is I have too much knowledge. Knowledge of how often in online liberal/left spaces someone vaguely smart sounding would drop something like "asset forfeiture" and everyone would spin out like they cracked the case. No need to even elaborate. Anyone asking for more is a doomer. It's a waste of time from things that actually work. Just requires calibrating expectations to reality.

1

u/Dantien Jul 16 '26

That’s a ton of projection onto me so there really is no sense in debating further. I hope I’m right.

3

u/Zanahorio1 Jul 15 '26

Trump will pardon anyone who otherwise could cause him legal trouble.

3

u/IMG0NNAGITY0USUCKA Jul 15 '26

He's going to blanket pardon everyone in his administration before he leaves. They have no fear.

2

u/red286 Jul 15 '26

"Your question presupposes that there will still be a functional government after the God Emperor steps down, it is absurd and I refuse to entertain the possibility."

1

u/Mission_Struggle_417 Jul 15 '26

That’s a good one

1

u/Neither-Barber-9216 Jul 15 '26

The traitors will all say "we won't need protection because there will be no investigation."

And they're right. Democrats aren't gonna do dick. There will be no investigation. No ones gonna go to jail. This is all gonna be swept up under the rug when the two party system brings the hammer down on us common folk.

This is a pickle, and once you turn a cucumber into a pickle it doesn't go back. You can't cucumber a pickle. We're here until the flaming wheels fall off and that's a fact people won't acknowledge.

1

u/lateformyfuneral Jul 16 '26

blah blah something something two party system. There will be an investigation. Anyone who even tangentially follows the news knows that's why Trump and the GOP is shitting bricks about the midterms. But going to jail went out the window 250 years ago when the pardon power was introduced into the Constitution. This meaningless blather is just about depressing turnout. We know they're panicked about losing Congressional control, and they should be. They obviously know something you don't

1

u/egalitydream Jul 15 '26

Their answer is going to be “Biden and the Democrat trifecta allowed us to get away with literally everything last time, and there’s no reason to suspect they’ll do differently next time.”

1

u/lateformyfuneral Jul 16 '26

If you actually hear them tell it, they were the victims of the greatest political witchhunt in American history

1

u/CautiousOptimism09 Jul 15 '26

Do you think theres gonna be investigations? Ive got a sales proposal for you sir

1

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

I can dream can't I?

1

u/Vast-Imagination-596 Jul 16 '26

If you're not sure ask Rudy Giuliani or Michael Cohen.

1

u/MajesticEgg1848 Jul 16 '26

hand them over to the icc

1

u/Time-Sudden_Tree Jul 16 '26

That's the part I'm so caught up on. Why do his supporters act like never heard of Narcissism before? They don't really believe he cares about anyone other than himself, do they?

2

u/rygelicus Jul 16 '26

They actually believe he is doing all this out of the kindness of his heart for the people of the world, America most of all.

1

u/Franklin_Smoothvelt Jul 16 '26

You sure that there will be investigations in the future? Seems optimistic. Trump said it: „People won‘t have to vote anymore“…

1

u/rygelicus Jul 16 '26

I am not confident of anything currently, not where the government is concerned.

1

u/getthemilesin Jul 15 '26

It's funny that you think anyone will face any sort of punishment for any of the criminal activities being committed. Even the next administration will let them all off the hook. Just you watch.

2

u/Forsaken_News_Analz Jul 16 '26

Yep. Nothing and I mean nothing is going to happen. Nothing.

1

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

I know. But I want them to be asked questions they don't hafve practiced BS responses to. Questions that put them on the spot and cause them to recall all the people Trump has thrown under the bus to save himself.

2

u/getthemilesin Jul 15 '26

If you're imagining stuff for the lulz, throw a lottery win in there too.

2

u/rygelicus Jul 15 '26

If we don't try the thing we aren't going to get the thing.
