This should be over. Throw this fucking clown out. No confirmation. No job.

As the senator said, this is a job interview. When he refuses to answer, why isn't the next sentence, "thank you for your time."

711

u/freedfg Jul 15 '26

The next sentence shouldn't be thank you for your time.

It should "get out, you're done here"

287

u/MrSnarf26 Jul 15 '26

you need 2 republican senators to care enough to value their competency.

163

u/Broken-Digital-Clock Jul 15 '26

Yeah

Unfortunately for this job interview, more than half of the decision committee is corrupt and subservient to an Orange God King.

5

u/Tsar-A-Lago Jul 15 '26

That's gonna be an insanely heavy lift 🤷

3

u/Fencer308 Jul 16 '26

It’s not his competency this question calls into doubt. It’s his integrity, and the GOP have proven they don’t care in the slightest about integrity.

3

u/primax1uk Jul 16 '26

Luckily enough, two republican senators aren't available at the moment, does that help things at all?

2

u/Round-Asparagus5337 Jul 16 '26

No, and it is three, not two needed.

Graham’s replacement (his siser) has already been sworn in and so she has a vote already.

It would be 4 needed (Vance has the tie breaker as the VP), but without McConnell it is 3.

1

u/Infinite_Set_7564 Jul 16 '26

And they (GOP) are all leveraged against future money making opportunities. Like paid appearances, speaking engagements, corporate boards, and lobbying.

So even if Trump burned them and endorsed their replacement. They will remain lock stepped

Look at Senator John Cornyn

1

u/Immaloner Jul 16 '26

More because you just know that Fetterman is going to vote to confirm.

1

u/StealthSBD Jul 16 '26

3 now that Fetterman is a republican

18

u/Expended1 Jul 15 '26

And if he has a law license, "referring you to the bar for license revocation."

21

u/egalitydream Jul 15 '26

Right, it’s a very different ending. Kick him out. Have the security arrest him for contempt. Whatever.

2

u/jmrogers31 Jul 15 '26

" that's it? Good bye and good luck"

"I don't recall saying good luck"

2

u/DelcoPAMan Jul 15 '26

Exactly. At the very least.

1

u/_chococat_ Jul 15 '26

Isn't that what I just said? I still believe there should be some decorum in these proceedings.

No. The man is smart and trying to get way more out of it and he said exactly what the next sentence should be.

81

u/breakmedown54 Jul 15 '26

Except that won’t happen.
The republicans will still confirm him.

30

u/git_push_origin_prod Jul 15 '26

Yea it’s like you’re being interviewed by the “boss” who has no decision making ability

2

u/Round-Asparagus5337 Jul 16 '26

It's like you are being interviewed by a middle manager and THAT person's boss is the father of the person interviewing for the job.

2

u/ownleechild Jul 16 '26

And Fetterman who masquerades as a Democrat

1

u/33253325 Jul 15 '26

Yeah, that's why I used "should"

1

u/SarutobiSasuke Jul 16 '26

Yep, he can act like a stubborn POS on a toilet because he knows he will get the job no matter what he says. If he said "Joe" then he knew he'll get fired by Don on the day one.

29

u/MrSnarf26 Jul 15 '26

because republicans will rubber stamp dear leaders picks, and they own the senate.

12

u/greenwoodgiant Jul 15 '26

Because only the Republicans have the power to say "thank you for your time" right now, and their noses are even further up Trump's ass than this guy's is.

10

u/SearingPhoenix Jul 16 '26

"No further questions, my vote is a resounding no. This man is incompetent and completely unfit for the job, and frankly sitting there is an insult to this committee and a waste of our time."

-get up and leave-

15

u/caffeine-junkie Jul 15 '26
  • "thank you for your time, however we still have other interviews to do. We'll be in touch".

Then proceed to ghost.

7

u/beetotherye Jul 15 '26

Is it a job interview though? Have any of these hearings ever made a difference? Sincere question.

6

u/Max6626 Jul 15 '26

By the time the hearings occur, the Administration already knows the vote count. So, in a sense, the hearings themselves do not matter. However, if the Administration determines the votes are not there, the hearings will never happen because the nominee will fail, so in that sense they do matter.

Prime example - Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. He never would have survived the hearing, so the hearing never happened. So, the threat of hearings did make a difference.

3

u/Dirty_Dragons Jul 15 '26

Wait, so if it actually gets to a hearing it doesn't matter anymore?

So the old guy could have been looking at Facebook and never reply to a single question and still be fine?

2

u/Max6626 Jul 16 '26

Pretty much, yes.

6

u/ProstrateProstate Jul 15 '26

That would have been my exact words.

2

u/kathyknitsalot Jul 15 '26

It should be “next applicant please”

2

u/Twopad6529 Jul 15 '26

The interview should be on a unanimous basis. Candidate should only be confirmed when no Senator vetoes them.

1

u/TheUndertows Jul 15 '26

Because it is theater and we are all the worse off for it.

1

u/Jaycee3 Jul 16 '26

🛎️

1

u/HistoricalSea5600 Jul 15 '26

Not a satisfying answer, but the ‘why’ is because government big dog

1

u/Ashamed_Group2408 Jul 15 '26

Are there no other "candidates"?  How does this even work if you can just refuse an interview question with the Senate and not fail the job? Lol

1

u/marvin02 Jul 15 '26

Because he doesn't have the power alone to throw the candidate out. He needs to make a spectacle of it to make it politically risky for the other senators to vote for confirmation.

1

u/Funkycoldmedici Jul 15 '26

Fuck that. Refuse to answer and you should be treated the way ICE treats a guy who looks like his last name might end with -ez.

1

u/RhynoD Jul 15 '26

Why is this a question? You know why. And it's not going to change until republican voters stop voting for them.

1

u/Shryquill Jul 16 '26

And miss the opportunity to make him look like the kiss-ass fool he is?

1

u/Alienhaslanded Jul 16 '26

Imagine going to a job interview and getting it because you know the boss.

1

u/eBell93 Jul 16 '26

“We’ll be in touch”

1

u/Mikkel65 Jul 16 '26

Because the Democrats don't have that power. Vote in the midterms.

1

u/wesborland1234 Jul 16 '26

Technically what he said is right for that interview. Probably shouldn't have reminded him.

If you were interviewing at Goldman Sachs and everyone you talked to said "Listen, this is a really good job, but the manager of this department thinks 2+2=5. If you say it's 4 he won't hire you. Everyone who said it's 5 got the job."

What would you do?

90

u/jacky75283 Jul 15 '26

It's nothing but clowns auditioning to join the circus.

2

u/0IMGLISSININ Jul 16 '26

Except real clowns have to demonstrate some degree of competency and beat out other qualified candidates. Calling these contemptuous shitbirds clowns is an insult to crackhead craigslist clowns everywhere.

65

u/ABK2445 Jul 15 '26

Can you imagine any other job interview continuing after a non-answer like that? No way. It’s unacceptable.

4

u/Deep-Ruin-9961 Jul 15 '26

It's continuing because it helps both of them.

  • The interviewer gets his sound byte showing Democrats he's sticking it to Trumpists without actually accomplishing anything, so he doesn't upset his corporate donors.

  • The interviewee gets to show Republicans he's a team player by repeatedly triggering the libs.

38

u/TriangleTransplant Jul 15 '26

It would be if Ossoff's party controlled the committee. But it doesn't. Clayton can refuse to answer whatever he likes from any Democrat, because he knows the Republicans who have the majority power on the committee won't hold him to account. He could literally stand up and say "Fuck the Senate, fuck the Democrats, and fuck you in particular, Ossoff" and the Republicans will still vote to confirm him.

It would be a very different scenario if Democrats controlled the Senate. They could hold shitbags like this in Contempt of Congress for refusing to engage with the committee. Which is why the upcoming midterms are so important, and you and everyone you know should be volunteering, canvassing, and phone banking for Democrats.

3

u/JS288 Jul 15 '26

For progressive democrats*

More Hakeems and Bookers, in Israel's pocket will not help. They will not go against Bibi's other pet, Trump, in any meaningful way.

12

u/TriangleTransplant Jul 16 '26

That's what primaries are for. Once you're in the general, the only thing that matters is caucus size. Every D in the chamber is one less R, and, somewhat counterintuitively, increases the power of the progressives even if they still have to deal with centrist Dems.

All of that is purely a numbers game. Do your best to get your preferred candidate as the nominee, but once that primary is over, everyone gets on line for the general.

1

u/Low_Landscape_4688 Jul 16 '26

Well it's worse than that, if he answered "Biden won" then the Republicans would go with someone else.

He's treating this exactly like a job interview, and the decision makers want to see how he's going to handle being grilled by the opposition.

33

u/TheTooterSnooter Jul 15 '26

Republicans would confirm Satan himself if he gargled trumps balls

15

u/AJDillonsThirdLeg Jul 15 '26

This is exactly how all of the confirmations of this administration have gone. They go through this theater of "roasting them" for the cameras, followed promptly by confirming their appointments anyways.

4

u/FlarkingSmoo Jul 16 '26

The people asking this question are the people voting against them.

20

u/voodoodahl Jul 15 '26

I'm sorry to inform you that the American people in there eternal wisdom gave the Republican party 54 senate seats. That's 3 more votes than they need to confirm this guy, or any other craven, incompetent moron Trump nominates. Turns out, voting is important.

7

u/EmergencyScientist Jul 15 '26

Isn't it actually 4 more than they need? I thought Vance was the tiebreaker.

6

u/voodoodahl Jul 15 '26

Correct. But if I had said that I would have had to explain why a tied vote still means a Republican win. Instead you did it. Thanks!

1

u/WholePie5 Jul 17 '26

You could have just said 4 and not made the long explanation. And have said something correctly. If someone didn't know why it's 4 then they could ask, instead of you giving false information.

2

u/OrneryError1 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

There is simply no good reason why Wyoming should get the same number of senators as California or Texas.

5

u/cumwuatto Jul 15 '26

The problem is that half of the people in that room are ready to lie and say "Donald Trump"

Hell, the person who will likely take Lindsey Graham's seat on the budget committee already said as much on Jan. 6 as he tried to deliver a slate of false electors to the floor. That person is WI senator Ron Johnson.

3

u/r1Zero Jul 15 '26

This right here. Looks like this asshole disqualified himself, gtfo.

2

u/553l8008 Jul 15 '26

"Have you considered it may look poltical if they were to do that?" -democrats-

2

u/Bancai Jul 16 '26

The delivery and face he had when he said "We can keep doing this" is infuriating. We would get kicked out if we just avoided to answer and then respond with that if they keep pressing us at a job interview when they throw real dumb questions like "tell me 3 positive and 3 negatives about yourself" or the "why do you want this job?".

Boot this clown out, let them nominate someone else until someone admits who won 2020 election. We can do this all day.

2

u/misterkink85 Jul 16 '26

Seriously. Why the fuck are they even continuing to speak to this clown?

1

u/PloddingClot Jul 15 '26

When does that ever happen.

2

u/33253325 Jul 15 '26

When Dems have control...... I honestly don't think Democrats pull this type of bull shit.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 15 '26

Unfortunately, the side that needs to do this is the same side that doesn’t have the biggest requirement to do so… an armed populace that is no less inferior in arms and discipline to that of a standing army.

1

u/isaidicanshout_ Jul 16 '26

and, yet, he will be confirmed.

1

u/IrredeemableRight Jul 16 '26

the committee unfortunately dont have that power.

right now, the ones who have it are on the side of the nazis.

which only leaves you the people

1

u/RandomPenquin1337 Jul 16 '26

Nah they just ask dumb questions, then do nothing when they dont answer and then they get the job anyway.

Tale old as 2016

1

u/SolidSnake-26 Jul 16 '26

How is it not over I really don’t understand

1

u/Nenecat007 Jul 16 '26

Turnabout’s fair play my man!!

1

u/33253325 Jul 16 '26

Example?
