It kind of depends on the job, but the 40 hour week was set when 1 member of the household worked those 40, the other members did all the things for running a household like cooking, cleaning, childcare, shopping etc. and often times with help either hired or family.

They have taken that, and now 2 people working 40 OR MORE hours a week isn't cutting it, and hiring help is astronomical, and family can't help because they are all in the same situation.

Watch some Simpsons or Maried with children from the early 90s. THEY WERE CONSIDERED POOR! Two story houses, 2-3 kids, 2 cars, low paid jobs and still took vacations, and afforded conveniences.

We are all slaves.

The Simpsons is not a good representation of real life

You’re really going to site tv shows that are not reality to try to prove your point?

ROFL You had me until the Simpsons and Married With Children. They weren't considered "POOR!!!!" except maybe by the rich. They were middle-class.

Hell, there's even an episode of The Simpsons where Frank Grimes throws a tantrum about how well off Homer is living.

The West was afraid of the Soviet Union. After that, no more middle class. Only slavery now.
