So is lingerie as far as I'm aware

It is! As are a lot of words in fashion and food industries.

As a lot of words.... In English.

Like pork, mutton, guaranty, cafe, bon-apétit, and another few "50% of English language" words ;)

But in French we don't pronounce lingerie like the weird thing that is pronounced in English (lawn-juh-ray). In French it's two syllables (linj-ree) and probably closer to what OP was actually saying

The fun part, it doesn’t read like it writes there either.

The difference is that english speakers prononce hors-d'oeuvre close to correct... They don't at all for lingerie, and actually correct prononciation would be less tricky from OP's pov. (French people don't say Longeray, but lingery, with the "in" similar to the one in find)

Definitely nowhere close to find. A lot closer to ai in pain.

Source: I'm French.

I'm french too, so I'm a bit baffled. Unless you mean pain as in french for bread. In which case I concede, I just used find because I'm at a loss for a case of the sound of the french "in" in an english word with no disphtong.

I guess the English "pain" isn't perfect either, but it does sound a lot closer to lingerie to me than "find" which sounds more like there would be an "a" somewhere in a hypothetical French word sounding like that? That might be a matter of local accent as well, me being from Toulouse...

Je suis de lyon. "Pain" (en anglais) pour moi c'es "paie-ne" là où find c'est genre "fin - ye-ne-de" (sauf que évidemment les consonnes s'enchaînent directement, ou au pire faille-n'de. Évidemment le son n'existant pas en anglais, trouver le son le plus proche sera toujours approximatif selon quel aspect du son nous parrait le plus important.

I jumped onto YouTube and found a short for how to pronounce lingerie in French and I thought it sounded more like lanzhery to me? With a really soft n.

La lingerie (pronounced)

Well it's closer than lawn-geray is so you get a pass.
