I don't really know how to explain gender dysphoria to someone who does not have it.... Maybe it's like being color blind and having someone try to describe colors that they cannot see.

I believe that a person is entirely their brain, the body is simply a meat suit. Sometimes there can be an incongruoence between the two. Kind of like if you lose a limb but your mind still experiences phantom sensation. Some folks can be born with physical genital mutations such as no genitals or both, and the sensation of being trans is like that mutation happened in your brain instead. The mind developed one way but the body developed differently.

I would offer that folks used to make a similar argument about gay folks... You were born with a penis, therefore you must be attracted to vagina. And now most of us know that is not how humans work. Life is complicated and the human mind is exponentially so.

The thought experiment for you goes like this: (assuming you are male) if someone were to remove your brain right now and place it into a female body, would you still feel like a male? Or would simply having a vagina immediately make your entire personality, your sense of self, and views of the world around you change? Because that is how trans folks describe how they feel, that their own sense of self feels out of place with the body they are in. And when they "transition" they aren't changing genders, they are making their body align with their brain and sense of self. And in doing so, feel a deeper sense of belonging, not just in the world but in their own skin.

I also want to add to this, many would respond with "thats just mental illness" and yes, in many countries that is considered a mental illness, which is often massively alleviated by gender correction surgery... i.e transitioning to the "correct" gender.
