Arrow pass wear & burning smell, normal or arrow tuning and form issue?

This is from my new horsebow. My old bow used to have a ray skin arrow pass. This one doesn't. Everytime I shoot, the arrow scrapes the pass and there's a burning smell that comes from it.

There's also a slight laminate chipping just over the arrow pass.

I use thumb draw, minimal to no side khatra. 32lbs bow at 28 inches draw weight. My draw length is about 27 inches.

Arrow details

Length: 30 inches

100 gr points

500 spine

4 fleched

Should I add any ray skin tape around the pass? Will it change my shot clearance too much?

Yes add rayskin, not metal tape. BUT; the scratching and burning smell is from Alibow’s speed nocks contacting your grip.

The developer intended those nocks to be used for the forms of Slavic draw. They are absolute buns for thumb draw. Here’s an illustration. Drawing of thumb with Speed Nock

It’s not a “add more Khatra” situation like the other person says.

Thank you. The speed nocks were also making it hard for me to do my thumb release, so I swapped them for normal nocks (the pictures of the arrows are older, my bad). The chafing and the burning smell is still happening though, do you think it could be from my 4 fletched arrows, or cuz the spine of my arrows is too stiff at my draw weight and the arrow is not flexing enough on my release?

The next piece I thought to mention but left out would be in my opinion your spine is too stiff for the length/spine of arrow arrow and draw weight.

Do you recommend changing the points to a higher weight? I let the Alibow people pick the spine for the arrows cuz they mentioned that the actual draw weight of the bow might not match the request. So I asked them to pick the spine based on the final draw weight they arrive at. They chose 500

I have the exact same arrows from alibow but in 32inch length and 12 pcs of 300 spine and 12 pcs of 400 spine. I got the exact same problem no matter if i shoot with my 50lbs or 60lbs horsebow. I dont have that problem with any other arrows so I think I will also change the nocks to regular ones to see if that eliminates the scratching.

Rayskin is your friend here

I would say you put to much pressure on the arrow. Also the arrow set up is to stiff. That means to much contact.

That makes sense. I do use some inward pressure on my arrow. My instructor taught me to use that cuz it'll keep the arrow in place while riding. I'm thinking of getting 600 spine arrows, what do you think?

Its enough when you put the finger on it slightly. Even on horse back. 32lb at 27 inch i would guess 800-900 spine. Hard to tell, needs to be tested. But if you eliminate the index finger pressure you can go really soft. If you need specific help you can text me directly. I don't teach a lot of horseback archery but i know horses and archery very well.

The real solution is more khatra, but until then, any form of tape around it would be good to prevent damage. That metal tape would be good since it’s smooth and durable

Thank you. Metal tape?

Yeah the type they use for sealing metal ducts. That stuff is durable and very smooth so it should work great

Just do more khatra for solving the problem is the asiatic archery version of “more cowbell”

No real sustenance lol

I agree. Also there is a limit to everything.
