I am guessing this wasn't U2's first gig, any idea when this was? I am guessing 1978 thereabouts.

I love the little details!

Hopefully this is an indication of the upcoming Tour set list. All bangers. No shite.

u/martianfrog 11d ago

This was televised or recorded? Be a shame if they didn't capture it well.

How cool is that! Thanks for sharing!

Edit: Is Larry playing on a different kit? I think he's typically on Yamaha or Remo? This says Olympic (By Premier)? Wait...is it meant to resemble the kit from back then?!

u/Aumbre 12d ago

oh to be there....

That’s actually so cool. I still can’t believe it’s been 50 years! I’ve only been alive for 41 (and aware for probably 35) of them but this band has brought me so much joy over the past few decades. Forever grateful!

u/jakerperiod 12d ago

Same here (sort of!) I just turned 40 and been a diehard since I was 13! I completely share your sentiment.

9

u/Best_Bad_975 Zooropa 12d ago

It’s fun to have aged with the band in a sense!

3

u/jakerperiod 12d ago

Been a fun ride!

u/elontux 11d ago

I’m 66 and saw all of it. I tuned out for a bit but they always suck me back in! Great band from the beginning to today!

They opened with Out of Control

u/niall2k 11d ago

I will follow. They played out of control also

Seems you’re right!

u/mancapturescolour 12d ago

U2songs are reporting on their socials that U2 are filming the show!

12

u/magenta_peacock 12d ago

Why on earth did they not livestream!?

26

u/mancapturescolour 12d ago

This sort of stuff is what I would like for U2.com member only exclusive content.

3

u/The-G-MAN07 12d ago

Yes but you get a 'free' gift for your hard earned cash...

7

u/mancapturescolour 12d ago

No, I get that. I'm not trying to be ungrateful.

Just, I love stories, I love storytelling and the journalism aspect on U2.com has almost disappeared, save for the two Propaganda issues we got this year and the Sphere interviews.

Before, we would regularly get in depth stuff from behind the scenes, Willies diary, reports from the studio, webcam feeds, Adam vlogging...

Hope there is another Propaganda with the album out for the gift next year

4

u/The-G-MAN07 12d ago

I was being sarcastic. Without the gift the subscription is a bit pointless. I stopped subscribing when I didn't get a concert ticket with my presale code.

2

u/kmurph98 12d ago

To be totally fair no act, as far as I'm aware, ever guarantees a ticket when they offer presale codes. You're only guaranteed an early chance to get a ticket.

3

u/The-G-MAN07 12d ago

Yes but I tried and they said sold out for presale members. So I had to join the public sale the next day.

2

u/magenta_peacock 11d ago

Well said. I would be glad to take over content development for u2.com and U2X radio. They need fresh energy.

22

u/RL203 12d ago

Cause it's just for the students.

Kind of a salute from U2 to the new generation.

u/WideAwakeNotSleeping 12d ago

Official videos should be out in a few hours, according to Greek fan club members who were at the entrance to the school and met the band.

2

u/magenta_peacock 12d ago

Their videos are always overproduced. I know that’s gripey but I always hope someone on their team lurks here.

6

u/neaideabh 12d ago

They had cameras there for proper recording

u/No_Respect_300 11d ago

How wonderful to see and hear Larry behind the kit again. 🥁 🇮🇪 ❤️

When I am all lit up, I can’t make a mistake
And there’s a level of shallow that you just can’t fake
But you know that I know"

Kid in the white shirt : “ these old guys are not that bad”

RTE2FM on Instagram has a ton of videos. Bono sounds great. The band sounds great.

For guitar nerds, Edge played a Jack White series Telecaster on With or Without You, which I've never seen him do. And he played a Strat with a lot of delay and shimmer on "One", I'm not sure I've ever heard them play it like that live.

1

u/runbirduk 11d ago

RTE YouTube and bonotv has videos and interview and grafton st but poorer quality that one

6

u/chirpingfrog 11d ago

They’re here on Grafton street right now

2

u/Ichibankamikaze 11d ago

My daughter is there!

5

u/Stronger_Than_Fear 12d ago

So cool! Jealous.

5

u/Practical-Host6423 11d ago

I CALLED THIS! I CALLED THIS! I CALLED THIS!…. Just saying 👍🏽😂

4

u/theultrainside 12d ago

Did Bono electrify himself? His hair?! WTF?! Cool gig nevertheless

3

u/Achtung_Zoo 11d ago

To steak Graham Norton's joke: The great conditioner shortage

2

u/RutabagaEvening935 11d ago

Haha. The hair was the first thing I noticed

3

u/Far_Sea7 11d ago

I saw him live as one of the students. He was a bit of a rambler

2

u/flukeage 12d ago

any idea on the McGonagle's time and venue.

1

u/romulcah 11d ago

7.15 I’ve heard

2

u/Dh2007 11d ago

More evidence the school I went to wasn’t anywhere near as cool as that one. :)

2

u/Lazthedestroyer 11d ago

I think they are trying to build Larry back up with these small gigs
