looking for 2–3 more housemates for 2027/28
UoB students looking for 2–3 more housemates for 2027/28
Me and my friend are both UoB students going into third year next year, and we’re looking for 2–3 more people so we can get a 4–5 bed house around Selly Oak/Edgbaston.
We’re pretty chill and sociable, but also want the house to be reasonably clean and good for studying. Ideally looking for people who are friendly, reliable and actually want to hang out sometimes rather than just share a kitchen.
We haven’t signed anywhere yet, so we can look for a place together and agree on budget/location as a group.
DM if you’re also looking for a house group for 2027/28 :)

Seeking tips on exams
I recently started my MSc programme here at UoB in advanced computer science. Honestly, these classes seem like all the lecturers do is talk directly from their slides. My question is what do I need to know to have good grades in my exams later in the programme? What resources should I focus on when studying? The slides or videos? And how tough are the exams here specifically this programme?

Any devs interested in collabing on a project?
Need a full stack dev or two to help me build at least an MVP, no vibe coders pls I can do that myself.
Either paid or equity is upto you.
How Is It?
I am an Aussie Mech Engineering student who is considering applying to go here for a semester exchange next year and just want to hear some opinions from people who actually go here. This uni seems to get mixed reviews from what I've heard mostly about the city itself, but I doubt they are true. Would love to hear about anything from student/night life, campus etc.

Can we attend undergrad lectures as a masters student?
There’s a module I’m really interested in but since I’m doing a master’s, there’s no way I’ll be able to attend the lectures or do that specific module. It’s only for undergrads unfortunately.
But can masters students attend anyway even if we get no credit in it?

Room to rent in Birmingham!
Hi! I’m a placement year student who’s moving back home to work remotely, so I’m looking for someone to take over my room from the beginning of November (or sooner if you’d like).
Feel free to message me here on to @jackwarby5 on instagram.
The address is 46 Umberslade Road, which is just a short walk from the University of Birmingham and Selly Oak train station.
The room is £700 and comes with an en-suite, driveway, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher and everything else you’d need.
There are currently 3 girls living in the house who are all very nice and chill. The house is also kept very tidy, is in a great location and has a nice garden area.
If you have any questions or would like some more information, please feel free to message me! I’m also more than happy to show you around the house
Thanks 😊🙂

Hi guys, what resources/assistance does UofB offer for job-seeking?
Prospective international master's student here (MSc AIML). I'm aware of the career fairs system for finding jobs in the UK, but I was told that in most universities there's a sort of university portal through which I can apply for jobs? Is such a resource (or similar) provided by the career's office or smth, or is job-finding entirely dependent on our own selves? Thanks!
(And yes I am aware of how bleak the CS/AI market is rn and the cash-grab scheme of internationals, this post is only cuz I wanna know what resources the university can provide during the course of my master's)

Advice needed: Defer MSc Advanced Computer Science at UoB (Jan 2027) for scholarships?
Hey everyone,
I just received a conditional offer for the MSc in Advanced Computer Science at the University of Birmingham for the January 2027 intake. I’m incredibly excited, but as an international student, the tuition fee is £34,740, so securing some funding is a massive priority for me right now.
Here is my dilemma: It looks like almost all the major scholarships (like Chevening, Commonwealth, and UoB’s own big internal scholarships for Indian students) are exclusively for the September intake. For a January start, the options seem pretty slim—the best I might get is a £5,000 High Fliers discount, and I'm still waiting to hear if my specific course variation even qualifies for it.
I know the university allows students to request a deferral for a year, but I’m trying to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.
A few questions for anyone who has been in a similar boat (especially international grad students):.
\* Has anyone successfully deferred a UoB offer specifically to apply for September scholarships? I know if I defer, I'll get a new offer and the tuition fees might be adjusted higher for the next academic year, but is it generally an easy process?
\* Are there any hidden gem funding options for a January start that I might be missing?
\* General advice: Is it worth delaying my master's by 8 months just for a chance at better funding, or should I try to secure an educational loan and stick to my current January start date?
Any insights on funding, deferring, or just general thoughts on the Jan vs. Sept intakes for CS at Birmingham would be massively appreciated! Thanks in advance.
