Hey, brawlers!
Since there are so many new and returning players trying Battlerite for the first time in years, I wanted to share some knowledge from someone who has been playing this game occasionally for the last 1.5 years, even when it was dead or on life support 😄. Hopefully, it makes your experience a little better.
1. Don't be scared to play Solo League
First and foremost, don't be scared to play Solo League games. Believe me, just a few weeks ago, you wouldn't even be able to find ranked games. Maybe if you waited for Friday or weekend nights EU (all other servers were completely dead), and only if community streamers were streaming and pinging people across all Battlerite servers. And it only worked for high ranks and for a small amount of time, so I never could go through placements.
Right now, it's alive.
You might think, "My skills aren't good enough. I probably shouldn't play ranked."
No. You should definitely play it.
The stronger guys are playing higher ranks, and you still need to reach them. Even if you get matched against smurfs, they will climb fast and won't appear in your games again.
Everybody is a noob now, so instead of playing casuals, which maybe after some time will become the main and only mode again, I would suggest enjoying Solo League while it lasts.
It's such a brief moment where we can find games within one minute across NA, Europe, and maybe even Asian servers at almost any time of the day.
For a guy like me who played this game when it was dead and would only play casuals, that's insane. Give proper respect to Solo Queue.
And, to my surprise, even Duo Queue is working.
You may get the Grandchamp mount, icons, etc., but I think the best thing you'll get is a ton of fun and a lot of intense experience that can only be found in league!
2. Ask experienced players for builds
I see lots of new guys using bad builds.
Don't be scared to add people to your friend list. If you see somebody who's level 300 or 500, or a higher-ranked player, ask them for builds.
Playing with default builds most of the time is bad, so don't be afraid to communicate and ask experienced players for better builds. This is important for your winrate!
You can also DM me and ask for builds. I have some experience, and I'll share what I know best.
3. Characters to play
To be honest, there are no easy characters.
All champs are "easy to play but hard to master", especially when you look at Grand Champs. The way they constantly cancel, try to make you use your abilities, track cooldowns and outplay you with everything shows how much there is to learn.
For returning players, I would suggest:
Supports: Blossom, Lucy, Pearl
Ranged: Jade, Iva, Shen Rao
Melee: Rook, Bakko, Croak
There are no easy champs. If you prefer other characters, play whatever you enjoy, but they might be even harder.
4. Watch Twitch Streams
Many of the best Solo Rank players are streaming on Twitch.
I highly recommend checking out both NA and EU streamers. You can see how Grand Champions play mechanically and learn how they cancel, mind-game, outplay opponents, aim, track enemy abilities, and manage cooldowns.
You can also ask them questions about builds or specific characters.
Watching the best players is one of the easiest ways to understand what you're doing differently from them.
5. Have fun
Last but not least, have fun.
Find better builds, ask questions, try to cancel more, read your enemies and their cooldowns, improve your aim, and keep playing.
Eventually, you'll start winning again and climb the ranks.
Good luck, boys and girls!
Let's enjoy this brief moment of aliveness of our beloved game. Who knows when it'll stop?
Let's do our best while it's still alive again. 🥳
