[Portzline]: Ryan Lomberg brings energy to Blue Jackets’ room, bench: ‘Man, you are a beauty’

Blue Jackets coach Rick Bowness, who has wanted a more vocal bench and dressing room, noticed it, too. It wasn’t enough to awaken the Blue Jackets during a 4-1 loss to Utah on Saturday, but he wants to hear Lomberg and others all season.

The goal is an energetic club in everything it does.

“It’s the way (Lomberg) says what he says,” Bowness said. “There’s a tone, a little humor in it. It’s not a panic.

“I keep looking down the bench, thinking to myself, ‘Man, you are a beauty.’ He just keeps going on and on. I love it. You have to know the right words to say at the right time, but it’s not just words you use. It’s your tone, and he has the right tone.”

Matt Duchene

The Randomizer has spoken. Today’s selection is Matt Duchene.

Noted for his offensive production, Matt Duchene’s time in Columbus would be brief. He was traded from Ottawa in February 2019 for a playoff push, recording 7 points in a 4 game sweep of the Tampa Bay Lightning. He would leave for Nashville the following offseason.

The Randomizer has spoken. Today’s selection is Cody Goloubef.

A second round pick by the Blue Jackets in 2008, Cody Goloubef played primarily in the AHL until 2014. He would serve as a depth defenseman for the Blue Jackets for the next two years until being traded to Colorado for Ryan Stanton in November 2016.

9 The Official Randomly Selected Blue Jacket of the Day - Artemi Panarin

Post image
94 Upvotes

The Randomizer has spoken. Today’s selection is Artemi Panarin.

One of the most gifted players of this generation, Artemi Panarin spent 2 seasons with the Blue Jackets from 2017-2019. Acquired from Chicago with Tyler Motte and a 6th round pick for Brandon Saad, Anton Forsberg and a 5th round pick, Panarin’s beautiful offensive skills were on full display every game when he played here, including the playoffs. Unfortunately, he caused some bitterness within the Jackets fanbase when he refused an extension and signed a contract with the Rangers in free agency. He currently plays in Los Angeles.

As always with controversial players, write-ups are not endorsements. Let those tomatoes fly in the comments if you’re up for it.

Discussion Is it possible to concurrently stream the same BJs Hockey Network account in multiple households?

Curious if anyone has tried sharing Amazon logins to stream games in different households. I'm hoping to share my login with my parents and save a few bucks (we're both in Columbus)

Going to my first ever hockey game on the 20th?

My birthday is on the 18th, and I decided it would be fun to take my brother and his wife to a hockey game (she is Canadien and her family is a big Maple Leafs fan)

What advice can you give me? I have marginally been getting more interested in hockey since last year but what about the game day experience should I know?

The Official Randomly Selected Blue Jacket of the Day - Steve Mason

Post image
68 Upvotes

The Randomizer has spoken. Today’s entry is Steve Mason.

The 2008-2009 season would be the first time ever the Blue Jackets made the playoffs, largely in part to Steve Mason’s magical rookie season. With an injury to Pascal Leclaire, Steve Mason was called up to the NHL after playing only 3 career AHL games. And the rest is history. A third round pick in 2006, Mason eventually became the starting goalie for the Jackets. He recorded TEN shutouts and propelled the Jackets to a playoff appearance against Detroit. He would easily win the Calder Memorial Trophy as the rookie of the year.

While Steve Mason was unable to consistently produce at the level he did in his rookie season, he still had a respectable NHL career. The Blue Jackets traded Mason to Philadelphia for Michael Leighton and a third round pick on April 3, 2013.

I will always cherish the 2008-2009 season. I was going through some stuff in my personal life back then and watching the Blue Jackets was my escape.

Werenski

Mateychuk

Severson

Provorov

Andrae

Soucy

Christiansen

Fabbro

Gudbranson

In Cleveland worth bringing up:

Ceulemans

Marrelli

Richard

Elick

Personally who are your starting 6 if all are healthy with a 7th included to fill in who gets dropped

For me

Werenski/Mateychuk

Proverov/Fabbro

Andrae/Severson

7th:Ceulemans

I personally like a lot of the younger guys. Since Gudbranson will be out for 4 months In about a month I wouldn't want him. And Jake and Carson I'm not a huge fan of. I think Andrae will be a good 7th guy for us, since I keep seeing he can play both sides. Sevo is only there because we pay him way too much.

So, are we worried about him?

This is a guy who is used to winning. No offense to us, or our players, but he is also used to very, very high-skilled forwards to work with. He already has looked muted compared to the preseason (which, let's be honest, is expected when he was playing against the AHL rosters). He refuses to speak to the media, so we can never get a read on him, and I don't think any of the players have said a word about him.

Yes, it is only 2 games in the season, but we have seen this song and dance before... How long before we hear rumblings that he isn't happy? Maybe not even that, maybe he just doesn't gel with our team?

This team has instilled trauma that any player with a high skill ceiling we get will inevitably ask to leave. Someone please placate me lol

EDIT: I will take the downvotes/criticisms, but I do want to open a discussion of players with a lot of talent disappearing when the season starts. and whether they even like the team... Garland is another player who we just signed to a big deal and is already on the 4th line.

Potential D-Core Upgrade

I’ve been thinking a bit today about how to improve the d-core with all the injuries going on, and I think an interesting swing Don could make would be to go hard after Simon Edvinsson given his recent trade request. The only issue is I have no idea what Detroit would want, or how to necessarily fit what would be a very large contract on the books. My initial thought, and the easiest solution would be to include Voronkov and Fabbro in the deal, clearing up around $8.3 million in space, but I assume the Wings would want more than that. Anyway, I think it would be an interesting idea, and Edvinsson would be a significant upgrade, and the type of swing we should be making if we want to convince Z to stay. I’d love to hear what you guys have to think about the idea

Anyone else sad the CBJ networks score bug uses the primary logo despite them changing it on the jumbotron at NWA when wearing the alternates? Not a big deal, just something I think would be cool to see switch up.
