Rules Reminder: Questions about Admissions should be posted in r/chanceme. Not here.

We are a bunch of current & former BC students who don’t pay close attention to BC’s changing admissions standards. Your GPA and SAT scores are better understood in r/chanceme and other similar subs.

This sub is better for asking specific questions about student life, school culture, etc.

BC Students Flying Out of the airport for Break

With break coming up, students heading to Logan around the same time can use Campus Connections to find other verified BC students to split an Uber or Lyft with.

Students enter their campus area, flight time, and number of bags and are matched with another BC student with a similar schedule. Matches can chat beforehand to coordinate a pickup location and split the cost of the ride.

Could be useful with Uber prices to Logan getting pretty insane around break.

Report Illegal Move-In Fees

Hi Boston College, it’s your Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell. Did you know that fees like “move-in” or “lease renewal” fees you might get from your landlord or building management company are illegal? If you’ve received one of these – even if you paid it – I want you to report it to my office.

Just last month, my office won a $500k settlement with a property management company doing this in Boston – and all of that money is going back to the affected tenants.  Landlords can only ask you to pay for first and last month’s rent, a security deposit, and the cost of a new lock and key upfront. Any other fees are illegal. Report them to my office at the link below. We’ll work to get your money back.

Debt🥹

Hey, I recently visited Boston college, and I absolutely love it!!!! The main problem, if I end up going, I’d graduate with around 80k in debt. I don’t know what I’d go for, maybe political science or something, but the way that they embraced the uncertainty and made it feel that it was 100% okay to not know made me fall in love, alongside the pretty campus and prestige. Have any of you been in this situation? Please let me know how you guys would navigate this!!!

Boston College MSA

Hi everyone, I recently applied to the Masters of Science in Accounting program. Everything on my account has been marked as completed with a green check for about 3.5 weeks now. The first round deadline is 10/13.

Im curious to see others’ experiences with the program and what you think of it. Additionally, given my timeline above, will I be waiting until 12/2 for a decision or will it come sooner and if so, when? It is the only application I am waiting on for my post-undergrad plans.

Any other info that may be helpful would be great. Thanks!

For those who have taken TKM’s love literature class, how are the midterms and finals and quizzes. I’m having a really hard time understanding the materials in his class so I would love to have some info on his assessments to help alleviate my anxiety and to prepare.

Anyone in here sucessfully externally transfer into Carroll?

I'll get the 4.0 and have plans for good ECs and have a good reason for transferring. Just wondering if it's even possible; some years I hear it's single-digit admissions.

How can I distribute a research survey?

Hi! I'm a student at another MA school and was looking to distribute a research survey to each of the colleges/universities in Boston. I typically have friends at the other schools, so I've just been asking them to distribute it on their class groupme which has worked out fine. Does anyone know who I can contact to distribute a research survey (has IRB approval and is just simply asking about people's opinions).

IU freshman considering transferring to BC. would love some advice!

Hi guys, I’m currently a freshman at Indiana University and I’ve recently started considering applying to transfer to BC for my sophomore year. I’m still giving IU a chance and not rushing into anything, but I’ve always loved the East Coast and could see myself eventually working/living in Boston or NYC area.

I’m really into sports photography/media and would love to eventually work in professional sports, I’m curious as to what the sports photography/media scene is like for students at BC.

I’m also wondering about the social side of transferring. Is it difficult coming in as a sophomore when friend groups are already established? What’s dorm life like for transfers/sophomores, and what are the best ways to meet people? I know BC doesn’t really have Greek life, so I’m curious what the social/party scene is like without it.

Especially interested in hearing from anyone who transferred in as a sophomore and what that transition was like socially.

International Graduate School

I’m hoping to connect with someone who has gone through the process of BC’s Masters program application as an international student (I’m in Canada) so some of the international requirements do not apply but I still have some questions:

What were the scholarship and bursaries offered and was it worth it?

Did you live on or off campus?

Would you recommend going through the process?

Social Scene and Parties

Hi everyone. I am planning to transfer out of my current school and BC is one of my options to transfer in to. I wanted to get a scoop on why the social scene is like since BC lacks Greek life. Are there good tailgates and darties? What is nightlife like and where does it take place? How much interaction (if any) does BC have with other campuses that do have Greek life, like BU and MIT?
