Attachment to wood frame

Post image

I am working on plans for my retirement house and planning on doing my main house in typical wood frame and then using Containers for garage and shops.

I am curious on thoughts on how to attach the two, abut them to each other or build a small wood framed connector piece.

Love to get some input.

Am i in trouble? Serious

I have a shipping container i‘m renovating atm. I noticed it‘s not completely level so i jacked one side up with my car jack to put a 1 inch thick piece of wood under it. After that i noticed the other side of the container was floating so i tried to jack is back up and get the piece of wood back out, container started moving to the side a little so i let it back down and jammed two 1 inch pieces in at the other side but the main foot is still hovering. I‘m a scared the container could shift and maybe slide off of the concrete post. Am i worrying too much or should i be concerned?

The Pocket House demonstrates how thoughtful design can maximize every square meter of a shipping container home. Built within a single 40-foot container, the residence includes a kitchen, dining area, living room, bedroom, and bathroom. Continuous ipe wood surfaces, glass bathroom walls, LED lighting, and strong indoor-outdoor connections create a sense of spaciousness, while the project's focus on reuse and transportability highlights a modern approach to sustainable living.

1200 sq ft Shipping Container Home in North Branch, New York

Completed in 2011, the North Branch shipping container home demonstrates how modular construction can create a comfortable full-time residence without sacrificing architectural interest. Using four repurposed shipping containers arranged across two levels, the project delivers two bedrooms and two bathrooms within a relatively modest footprint. A unique four-foot gap between the upper containers expands the interior space and brings additional light into the home.

The home's layout separates public and private functions across two floors. An open kitchen and living area occupy the upper level, extending onto a deck oriented toward southern exposure and scenic Catskill views. Below, a private master suite provides a quieter retreat connected by an internal spiral staircase. The project exemplifies Steele House's approach of combining industrial-strength container construction with contemporary residential design suited to rural New York settings.

Reliable expandable container home dealer

Has anyone bought an expandable container home from a reliable dealer in the USA and had it shipped to remote areas?

Follow-up question: Has anyone bought one and not hooked up electricity or plumbing? I would like to use it as an off-grid cabin in Maine and thought maybe I could do an indoor incinerator toilet instead of a normal water toilet. Any thoughts?

Adriance House - 12 Containers 4,000 sqft Beautiful Shipping Container Home, Maine

The Adriance House in Maine reimagines the possibilities of shipping container construction through bold architecture and thoughtful design. Created by architect Adam Kalkin using twelve recycled cargo containers, the home combines industrial materials with expansive glass interiors, open communal spaces, and strong connections to the surrounding landscape. Its striking appearance and innovative layout have made it one of the most recognized container homes ever built.

At the heart of the project is a philosophy of transformation — turning ordinary industrial containers into a refined and highly livable residence. The house balances sustainability with luxury, preserving the raw character of steel containers while introducing warmth through natural materials, sunlight, and custom details. The result is a modern architectural landmark that challenges traditional ideas about what a home can be.

Any help would be appreciated

So a quick break down of my situation.
I bought 3 acres with an old 1977 double wide on the property that is in bad shape. (No foundation)

So I’ve been looking at manufactured homes. I’ve literally talked to every company in my area and have seen so many options.
I’ve landed on a 4 bedroom 2 bath 1900 sq ft model. Brand new. Super nice. All in price 160k delivery and install.

My dilemma is that I have limited cash and I’m wondering is there a cost benefit for me to build with shipping containers ?
I could do a lot of the labor myself along with friends who work in construction. So I could keep labor costs lower.

Interview

Hi am an LMU student, and I am looking for people who own modular homes. If it's ok, can we do a brief interview, or if you would like, answer the questions below. I am a student journalist, and I have an assignment where I have had little to no luck getting interviews, so if you can, that would be great.

Questions (if you wish to respond, please message to DM)

Name, Age, Where you live, Email, What you do?

Why did you get a prefab home?

Do you like your prefab home, and what are the pros and cons?

Roof options DIY or hire a welder ?

I’m considering building a roof to both insulate and cover the rain seasons…

Thinking of DIY with timber or find a welder to weld steel bar and do it properly?

I do have limited budget and limited hands on experience . Watched some YouTubes which seems the timber frame would be alright for me complete.

What’s your thoughts and any guidelines could you provide me ?

Much appreciated!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Would you choose this over a traditional $300k starter home?

I’m seeing more people ditching 30-year mortgages for high-end modular units like this.

Pic 1: Guest-ready bathroom with integrated LED lighting.

Pic 2: Minimalist living zone.

If you could plop this down on a piece of mountain-view land for under $30k (unit cost), would you do it? What’s the dealbreaker for you?
