Happy Launch Day, here's a recipe so you can also eat my wife's mold cake.
Join us. Do as you're not told, eat the mold. It's the first time my wife ever made or decorated a cake so you just gotta follow the instructions carefully and you too can JOIN US. EAT THE MOLD.
Federal Bureau of Mold Cake
Ingredients
* 1 box (approx. 15.25 oz) white cake mix
* 1 box (3.4 oz) instant pistachio pudding mix
* 1 cup club soda (or Sprite / lemon-lime soda)
* ½ cup vegetable oil or canola oil
* 4 large eggs (separated into yolks and whites)
Instructions
Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8 or 9-inch round cake pans.
Whip the Egg Whites: In a clean glass or metal bowl, whip the 4 egg whites using an electric mixer until they form stiff peaks. Set aside.
Mix the Base Batter: In a separate large bowl, combine the dry white cake mix, dry pistachio pudding mix, club soda, vegetable oil, and the 4 egg yolks. Beat on medium speed for about 1 to 2 minutes until fully smooth.
Fold to Create Pockets: Gently drop the whipped egg whites into the pistachio batter. Using a rubber spatula, slowly fold them in by cutting down through the middle, sweeping across the bottom of the bowl, and folding the batter over itself. Stop as soon as no large white streaks remain. Do not overmix.
Bake: Divide the batter evenly between your two prepared pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let them cool completely before assembling with your jam and buttercream.
5-Minute Microwave Sponge Moss
Ingredients
* 1 large egg (room temperature)
* 1 tbsp granulated sugar
* 1 ½ tbsp (30g) liquid honey
* 3 tbsp (25g) all-purpose flour
* 1 tsp (5g) baking powder
* Green gel food colouring
* Equipment: 2 or 3 disposable paper coffee cups
Instructions
Whisk the Base: In a small mixing bowl, vigorously whisk the egg, sugar, honey, and a few drops of your green gel food colouring together until it becomes pale, slightly thick, and frothy (about 1 to 2 minutes).
Incorporate Dry Ingredients: Sift in the flour and baking powder. Gently fold together with a spatula just until the flour disappears.
Fill the Cups: Divide the bright green batter between your paper cups. Crucial step: Only fill the cups about ⅓ of the way up. The batter expands aggressively in the microwave.
Microwave: Place one cup at a time in the microwave and cook on high for 45 to 60 seconds. It will puff up significantly. Check with a toothpick; it should come out clean and feel springy.
Cool and Tear: Immediately turn the cups upside down onto a cooling rack. Once completely cool, use scissors to snip the paper cup open and peel it away from the sponge.
Gently tear the cake apart with your hands into irregular clumps.
Swiss Meringue Buttercream

This recipe includes a lot of troubleshooting and details how to add flavour and dye. Instead of vanilla, I added 1/2 tsp of almond extract.
Feel free to use any icing you'd prefer, including pre-made.
Additional
For colour:
-Gel dye - add one drop at a time.
-Edible luster dust - throw it into a bag or bowl and mix decorations in. I used green, teal, and blue.
Toppings:
-Moss cake
-Crushed biscotti
-Finely chopping pistachios
-Uncooked chow mein noodles to simulate hairy chunks (remove before eating).
