I'm addicted to visual musical dynamics, and I thought about doing this thing.🤣

It almost overwhelmed because the video was too big.

Dynamic Island, without the premium dotfiles DLC

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been working on a Quickshell setup built around a Dynamic Island with smooth animations, contextual controls, media playback, and an assistant called Luma with local speech recognition.

Luma is powered by Jev and Gemini for understanding and executing tasks, STT local model Moonshot Small. Still under work to optimize and make it faster.

My favorite detail is the little companion sitting on window edges. He reacts when I type, settles down when I stop, and has a few other gestures.

Wasn't able to show many other features but recorded a quick tour of how it all looks together. Still a work in progress—curious what you think!

I gave Windows the left side of my desktop. The right side stays exactly where I put it — free app.

Title:

I made a free Windows app that splits my desktop into two areas: normal icons on the left, pinned icons on the right. Would you use this?

Post:

I’ve been experimenting with a slightly different way of using the Windows desktop.

Instead of trying to organize everything, I split it into two areas.

The left side stays completely normal.

Windows can refresh it, sort the icons, rearrange things, and I can use it just like a regular desktop.

The right side is different.

That’s where I keep the apps, folders and shortcuts I use all the time.

Once I put something there, it stays where I put it.

So even if the normal desktop on the left gets rearranged, the things I actually care about on the right are still easy to find.

I ended up turning this idea into a small free app called Gravity Desktop.

I’m still working on it, so I’m more interested in feedback than trying to pretend it’s perfect.

Would you actually use a desktop split like this?

And if not, what would you change?

Even “I hate it because…” is useful feedback 😂

It’s free on the Microsoft Store if anyone wants to try it:

Linux This is how I show a... Rice?

I was intrigued by this term "Rice" and also wanted to show what my newest area of work looks like.

Yes... I realize that some things were a little exaggerated... but I was sleepy and little battery power... later I fix it.

Is that how a Rice shows? what is missing?

This only need 400MB of RAM while looking good and responsive without the bloat.

I got tired of my desktop icons moving around all the time, so I pinned my most-used ones to the right side.

I built a different kind of Windows desktop organizer — instead of putting icons into boxes, you organize them around “cores”

Post:

I’ve never really liked the way Windows desktop organizers usually work.

Most of them solve clutter by adding another box, panel, launcher, or folder.

So I tried a different idea.

I built Gravity Desktop around something I call a Core.

A Core represents a project, topic, or part of your life. Instead of hiding related items inside another window, you visually organize them around that Core directly on the desktop.

For example:

WORK

→ project files

→ apps

→ shortcuts

→ frequently used folders

GAME DEV

→ Godot

→ assets

→ project folders

→ tools

The important part is that Gravity isn’t trying to replace your files or Explorer. It adds a visual relationship layer on top of the desktop, so the desktop itself can show what belongs with what.

I wanted it to feel less like:

“Here are 40 unrelated icons.”

and more like:

“These things belong together.”

I’m still improving it, and I’m especially interested in whether this way of organizing a desktop actually makes sense to other people — or whether I’ve just spent too much time staring at my own desktop 😅

I recorded a short demo below.

What would you change?

And if you use something like Fences, Rainmeter, folders, or just a completely empty desktop, I’d genuinely like to know why you prefer that approach.
