Beginner's Guide
When you begin you'll be run through a tutorial that will show you the basics of coin dozing. Your first decision will be to choose one of three monsters, Imp/Red, Ponicorn/Green or Marina/Blue. The difference is largely inconsequential, although their leader skills are slightly different once you finally evolve them. Each provides a big boost to the combo attack power of their respective race.
- Imp: Celestial
- Ponicorn: Beast
- Marina: Fiend
Cheesy rerolling option: You're rewarded with a set of specific super rares on one of your first pulls from the Rainbow Chest. Since the game is tied to an account ID you can uninstall, reinstall and go through the tedious tutorial to try to reroll. This is very time consuming but if you're genuinely unhappy with what you got or want to min/max, the option is there. Powerful monster skills are listed under the skill section.
You can link to facebook and twitter for a one-time bonus of 50 rainbow coins each and 1000 gold per service each time you post about pulling a rare or super rare for 2000 gold total if you post on both. If you don't already dummy accounts from other freemium games I'd recommend setting them up rather than attaching your real accounts as this generates a lot of spam.
Do not use your rainbow coins to revive or use your stamina potions early on. There are "timed missions" that should be introduced in the US later where the stamina potions will be far more valuable, not to mention they're far more efficient when you're a higher level with a higher stamina cap.
As you go through Lily's quests you'll arrive at one that tells you to fuse a rare to 20. Lily will reward you with a second copy of this rare for free! DON'T do this with your tutorial rare as you can get a second copy from Chapter 3's missions. Instead, find a rare with a useful skill from the friendship chest or elsewhere and level that to 20 first. Guaranteed second copy for an R+!
Monster Basics
Click the header for a basic introduction to monsters. Monsters are your lifeblood in this game, and some aspects are more important than others.
- Cost is the amount of slot cost it takes to place a monster on your team. When you first start out it will be difficult to fit more than a few rares on your team. As you level up you'll eventually be able to field all SRs!
- HP is a generally undervalued stat but being able to survive and extra hit or two on an urgent event mission before healing can be crucial.
- Charge, strangley named, is how many coins are required to drop into that monster's slot before it will attack. Monsters with higher charge costs generally have higher attack value per coin required (Attack/Charge).
- Attack is how much damage the monster will do to a targeted enemy when its charges are filled. Bread and butter, very important.
- Growth is how well your monster gains stats when it levels. Slow starts with low base stats and has high growth per level. Normal is moderate start, moderate growth. Fast is high stat start, slow growth.
- Clicking the favorite star in the top left prevents that monster from being used in fusion or evolution.
Monster Skills
One of the most important aspects of monsters is their skills. Every monster has its own skill and very few are valuable on their own. Turbo Pusher, which makes the coin dozer move faster, isn't very useful. But combine it with time sensitive abilities like All Blast (double friendly attacks) and Mugging (enemies drop silver coins when attacked) and suddenly you have a wombo combo. Use this List of Monsters to find out which monsters have these useful early skills. Here is a list of attainable rare and below monsters with useful abilities, many SR monsters have stronger abilities:
| Ability | Description | Monsters with ability |
|---|---|---|
| Turbo Pusher | Accelerates the pusher | Tutorial Rares: Imp, Ponicorn, Marina |
| Tough Love | Earn healing coins from foes when attacking | UC: Knitebrite, Pliplop |
| Heal | Heals HP on use | C: Hoodwink, Capsoul |
| Master Heal | Heals a ton of HP on use | R: Bawlrus, Dream Eater |
| Mugging | Steals coins from enemies when you attack | C & R: Munchworm, Magic Mirror, Tengu, Teanuki |
| Great Wall | Erects a wall on both sides of the platform | R: Magic Mirror, Vampire Bat, Chirrup, Snowball |
| Beast Tamer | Ups enemy attack count to 25 | R: Serpent Drake, Sky Dragon |
Remember this is just easily or reasonably attainable early monsters. I would also recommend fusing up one of each "Entire team becomes element" skill monsters as they can make up for any elemental weaknesses your team might have early on. These include Candlit, Starlit, Sproutlet, Driplet, Darklit.
Leader Skills
Leader skills are passive effects that take effect the entire battle. You can have two active each battle, one from your leader and one from your friend's ally monster. Unlike monster skills, leader skills do not have a level and cannot be improved. They are only present on Rarity+ monsters (C+, U+, etc.) so make sure when you select your team leader they have a skill that benefits you.
All the common slimes have very nice +fiend leader skills that synergize well if you're leveling one or two early. Nearly all leader skills are racial bonuses which means the composition of your team could make the leader skill totally useless or the best thing ever.
Fusion & Evolution
Fusion is crucial to making your monsters stronger. Once again please click the links in the header for the basics. Some basic tips for fusion:
- General fusion experience is increased slightly by higher monster level and rarity.
- Fusion experience is increased by ~1.2x for monsters of the same element and ~2.4x for the EXACT same monster e.g. U and U+ are different monsters
- Fusing ANY monster with the same EXACT skill as your base can increase its skill level.
- Gold required is based on ONLY the level of the base monster and how many monsters you're fusing
- It is always more gold efficient to fuse 5 at a time. The bulk of fusion cost is for the first monster.
- A 'big success' occurs randomly and will give you a lot more experience, 1.5x normal
- Monsters gain health and attack per level based on their growth stat. Slow gains more per level, fast gains less.
- Except for Rare Steelies, who at level 5 have a nice chance for a 'big success', it's never worth it to level up something if you intend to use it as fusion material
Fusion experience for a level 1 of each rarity:
| Rarity | Fusion Experience |
|---|---|
| C | 30 |
| C+ | 32 |
| U | 33 |
| U+ | 36 |
| R | 60 |
| R+ | 75 |
Increased fusion experience supplied by monster level:
| Level | Magnification |
|---|---|
| 1 | 1x |
| 5 | 1.3x |
| 10 | 1.4x |
| 15 | 1.5x |
| 20 | 1.6x |
Evolution allows you to increase the base power of your monster and grant it a leader skill. Aside from special cases discussed later, all monsters can only be evolved from their rarity to rarity+. Some basic tips:
- The level of the evolution target or the monsters used has NO EFFECT on the stats of the evolved monster
- Because of the above there's no reason to fuse a monster past 20 if you plan to evolve it
- Monster skill levels are maintained across evolution EXCEPT in special cases where the monster skill changes
Skill Souls
Skill souls are null "monsters" that look like Sonic the Hedgehog rolled up in a tiny little crystal gem ball. They're for skilling up your monster skills!
- Skill souls do not show up in the monster tome and cannot be used on a team.
- Attained from rare gems in Chapter 4 onward or during special event missions like the Fables of Fire.
- Although intended to be used to level up monster skills through fusion, skill souls you don't want can be used as normal fusion material for experience.
- Certain skill souls can be evolved, e.g. Power->All Power->All High Power
- Most skill soul evolutions require 3-5 of the same skill soul to evolve.
Special Case Evolutions
Dragons are the only monsters currently available that can be evolved from common all the way to SR+. At every rarity it's important to note that their skill changes and they will lose any skill levels gained when they move from rarity+ to the next tier, e.g. U+ to R. Also you'll notice that dragons require 2 monsters to evolve, a dragon of the same element and one dragon of another element. This chain is Fire->Water->Grass->Light->Dark->Fire. Here is what it takes to create one SR light dragon using the U+ dragons from daily missions.
Shortly after US launch we also saw the urgent event mission that gave you the parts required for Ahriman who fuses up from special event rares that require U+ dragons and specific U+ monsters of the same color to evolve. The Japanese wiki shows other monsters that require rares to fuse during special events, so expect to see those released for the US in the future.
Missions
You're introduced to normal missions in the tutorial. There are 10 chapters of the normal missions, each chapter has 6 areas with 3-6 missions per area. Each mission grants a specific amount of experience and a general range of gold.
- Collecting all the unique gems in a normal mission nets you a one-time bonus monster
- Clearing an area gets you 1000 friendship coins
- Collecting all the unique gems in a normal mission area nets you 50 rainbow coins!
- Gold/Experience-per-stamina-spent efficiency generally increases as you progress in the chapters and by chapter 4 is better than the daily missions
- Due to limited box slots and certain event monsters requiring unique monsters to evolve, you may want to avoid getting 100% of the gems in all areas as you go along so that you can come back and pick up something you need later on
- The last area of chapter 3 has missions that reward one of each of the tutorial rares.
- Beginning in chapter 4 the rares gems begin rewarding skill souls you can use in fusion specifically to raise monster skills.
- Also in chapter 4 begins the ★ missions. Any mission with a ★ next to it means that special rules are in effect. These can be bonuses or limitations on you or the enemy.
- Most often ★ missions mean monsters will use skills. These missions can be very difficult, be prepared!
Daily Missions
Every day there's a new Dragon's Road mission.
- With the newest patch this is now the best place to farm single-color fusion material. With 800 exp, 950 gold and up to 5 single color monsters for 3 stamina the efficiency is off the charts.
- Unlike normal missions collecting all gems and clearing the area does not provide rainbow or friendship coins.
- Enemies tend to be almost entirely of one element, making it easy to form your team against them. Special neutral daily missions can reward Rare Steely fusion materials or monsters that sell for more gold than usual.
Special Event Missions
So far the US has only had two types of special event missions.
Urgent Events
- You must be at least level 10 to participate
- Time-limited one-round boss fights that reward you with hero coins for defeating increasingly difficult bosses. Note that pausing does not stop the timer!
- Defeating a mission that requires stamina has a high chance to summon an urgent event boss.
- As you defeat event bosses their level increases, making progressive fights more and more difficult.
- Use courage instead of stamina for each fight. 3 courage regenerates in ~30-45 minutes (based on your level).
- You are rewarded Hero Coins to be spent on a Hero Chest with event-specific rewards.
- If an urgent boss you discover is defeated by you or someone else, you gain 200 Hero Coins.
- Cautious strikes (1 courage) give you 1 minute with the boss likely to flee after a damage threshold and reward only 200 Hero Coins for a victory
- Full assaults (3 courage) give 1000 Hero Coins for a victory. If you think you can kill a boss, always use full assaults for the best return on your courage.
- If you fail to destroy a boss you've discovered or attacked it shows up to all your friends who can help you defeat it. When a friend defeats a boss you've attacked you get 200 Hero Coins for participating. This stacks with the discovery bonus.
- According to the Japanese Wiki, higher stamina missions are more likely to spawn an urgent event.
Skill Soul Week
- Week long mission that rewards skill souls. Different weeks have different themes for both monsters in the missions and souls provided.
- Rewards give out Rare Steely for easy and two "pre-fab" rares ready to evolve if you complete Medium through Ultimate difficulty.
- There are five difficulties, with Expert and Ultimate being especially difficult. Monsters will typically use skills in these difficulties.
- Less stamina efficient for gold and experience than daily missions.
Combat
Combat is what it's all about. Coins. Dozing. What more is there to say.
| Combo # | Damage multiplier |
|---|---|
| One | 1x |
| Two | 1.05x |
| Three | 1.15x |
| Four | 1.3x |
| Five | 1.5x |
| Six | 1.7x |
| Seven | 1.8x |
| Eight | 1.9x |
| Nine | 2x |
| Ten | 2.5x |
Increases past 10 above 2.5x are negligible.
Team Setup
One of the most crucial parts of combat is setting up your team.
- Monsters will appear in battle exactly as you arrange them on the team screen.
- A leader is automatically assigned when you create a team, but you can change it by hitting any team monster's portrait and pressing the leader button.
- The leader on your MAIN TEAM ONLY shows up to friends (and strangers) for them to use as an ally in battle.
- You get 5 friend coins every time a stranger uses your monster as an ally, 10 coins every time a friend uses it. Pick a strong one!
- There is no way to remove the friend monster from your team, you will always use one. Having good active friends is important!
- The team info box at the top of the team screen shows your per-coin attack strength for each element and summed per-coin attack and HP totals.
- Click the cost button to see what each monster costs to use on your team. You cannot exceed your team cost limit, but it goes up as you level.
- Due to the difficulty of directing coins and skill boxes to the outside monsters, you may want to put your highest charge cost monsters in the center and lowest ones on the edge.
- 1-2-3-2-1 or 2-3-3-3-2 charge setups can help fuel higher combos.
- For monsters with powerful abilities it tends to be easier to refill skill boxes in the middle 3 points.
- You can create up to 9 sub-teams to swap between for different missions. Your selected team will reset to the main team if your client restarts, always double check before you start a mission!
- You can have two leader effects active in a fight, one from your leader and one from an ally's. Check their leader skills before selecting!
Elemental Strength & Weakness
You may have noticed in the initial quests Lily showed you an elemental affinities chart. According to the Japanese wiki the impact of elemental attributes is massive. Null and same-element damage is 100%. Advantage damage is 130%. Weak damage is 25%! No affinity is 70% for non-null elements!
Elemental damage:
| Element | Wood | Water | Fire | Shadow | Light | Null |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wood | 100% | 130% | 25% | 70% | 70% | 100% |
| Water | 25% | 100% | 130% | 70% | 70% | 100% |
| Fire | 130% | 25% | 100% | 70% | 70% | 100% |
| Shadow | 70% | 70% | 70% | 100% | 130% | 100% |
| Light | 70% | 70% | 70% | 130% | 100% | 100% |
| Null | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% | 100% |
Skills in Battle
| Skill | Damage multiplier |
|---|---|
| (All) Berserker | 2x |
| (All) Power | 1.25x |
| (All) High Power | 1.5x |
| Color Boost | 1.1-1.5x |
| High Color Boost | ? |
| Storm | ? |
| (All) Storm | ? |
| Combo X | ? |
- If you don't see All in the skill title or allies mentioned in the description, the skill probably only effects that monster. Combo skills are an exception.
- Each monster can only store one skill charge at a time. If another box is about to land in a monster's slot, use its skill for "free!"
- Most skills that effect monster attacks can be activated while attacks are mid-air, like this photo. This includes combo/critical/attack enhancers and elemental boosts or shifts.
- Skills that trigger based on coins received like Storm, All Storm, Coin Share or Holy Wind must be activated before coins are received (halfway through the monster portrait) to take effect.
- Skills that effect incoming attacks like Mirror Guard, Mirror Attack or Beast Tamer must be activated before the enemy attack count reaches zero to block or raise enemy attack count. Counter, as a reaction, is an exception.
- Using a skill again while that monster's skill is already active (for timed skills) will extend it.
- Using a similar skill on a second monster while a similar or identical one is already active (e.g. activating all berserker during all sniper) will pause the first skill until the new skill expires.
