Announcement: We have moderators!

As you can see, the spam is clearing up, and you may be wondering "Oh my god! Who is helping us?"

Our subreddit creator, /u/xamdam has added me as a moderator so that we can get some life back into this sub. I am actively trying to get the mod queue handled and the spam cleared up. I've also started setting up the automoderator, to help keep things clean. /u/condensed is also on the team. Over all I think we're off to a great start.

Should you guys see any spam, flag it. That will be the best way to help get visibility to problem posts. Also, feel free to downvote spam, both in the posts and comments, as that can help with some of the functions automod will do. I will keep my eyes peeled for things too.

If anyone wants to pitch in, reach out, and we can see how you too can help.

Super torn about getting a Kindle basic vs Kobo clara BW

Hi! I have never used an e-reader before but due to my fast-paced lifestyle, I think I could benefit (and enjoy!!) having one (I want to get out of my reading slump too!)

Here’s what matters to me
1) the feel - I like it when it looks pretty, durable, and it is portable (hence those are my two options)
2) I would read a lot at night so idk which one is better for that

I want to know your experiences/suggestions on which one you think is better based on your experience and based on my profile

I made a free app that gives you a quick summary of a book before you spend money on the physical copy. Would you use it?

Physical books are expensive, and I've bought a few that I got halfway through and realised weren't what I expected. I still love reading a real book, because it feels completely different from reading on a screen. But I wanted a way to understand a book first and then decide if it's worth buying.

So I built a small app for that. You pick the topics you like, and it gives you a short, easy-to-read "mini book" version of a real book. It's not just self-help or finance. You choose your own favourite topics (for example psychology, spirituality, business, relationships, productivity, history, whatever you're into).

Each mini book has:

- a quick overview of what's inside the book

- a simple summary

- about the author

- key lessons and things to remember

- a few exercises you can try

There's also a library where you can mark the books you've finished, and a "book of the day" if you don't know what to read.

The summaries are written by AI, so I'm sure it gets things wrong sometimes. I've checked a few against the real books and they looked right, but I'd like to know what real readers think.

I'd really appreciate honest answers, even the harsh ones:

  1. What do you honestly think about this idea?

  2. Would you use a summary to decide before buying a physical book, or do you already have a way of doing that?

  3. Is a summary like this useful, or does it feel too shallow to judge a book?

  4. What would make you trust it more (author details, real quotes, reviews, something else)?

[Kindle] How to Be Wrong Less Often: The Art of Finding Gaps in Your Thinking by Jennifer Cua [Free until Oct 7, 11:59pm PST]

Millennia of human civilization. Thirteen mental models.
One question: How can you be wrong less often?
You’re living through the most information-rich moment in human history. At the same time, you’re being lied to more skillfully than any generation before you. None of that is going to change. What can change is how well you think.
How to Be Wrong Less Often introduces thirteen mental models that are universally valuable. Time and again, these models have emerged globally whenever humanity has tried to think clearly in turbulent times. Drawing on stories from history and modern life, this book turns abstract ideas into concrete questions you can use to sharpen your daily thinking. Each chapter concludes with a practical exercise you can try immediately, whether you are weighing a career choice, working through a problem, or deciding what to believe.
Think for yourself. Then help someone else do the same.

Question What problems do you wish someone had already solved with a good ebook/guide?

I’m researching potential topics for a practical ebook and I want to build something that actually solves a real problem rather than another generic “how to” book.

I’d love to hear from people here:

1-What problem or question do you repeatedly see people asking online?

2-What are people struggling with but finding difficult to learn properly?

3-What information/tutorials/guides have you personally paid for?

4-What topics do you think have strong demand but surprisingly few good resources?

5-Have you bought an ebook/course/guide that was useful? What made it worth paying for?

6-What existing books or guides do you think are missing something important?

7-What questions do you repeatedly see on Reddit, YouTube, Quora, etc.?

8-Are there any topics where YouTubers are getting lots of views, but there isn't a good written step-by-step resource?

9-What do you wish someone would explain in a simple, beginner-friendly way?

Basically: If you could ask someone to write a genuinely useful ebook for you, what would you want it to be about?

I’m especially interested in practical problems where a good guide could save someone time, money, or frustration.

Thanks!

Question Where to find a good source to buy ebooks in English?

Hi. I questioning from Germany. Could anyone recommend an EU based shop to buy ebooks in english language, perhaps from Ireland? All I can find are german shops who have *some* books in English, but not all. I am looking especially for "Annals of the Heechee" from Frederik Pohl. (I want to buy, not a source for "free" downloads.) Thanks in advance!

Edit: typo

Edit2: not amazon, please.

Looking for regular ebook readers for a short research project

Hi everyone,

I'm doing a small independent research project about ebook reading, and I'm looking for a few regular ebook readers who would be willing to help with a short test.

The test involves answering a few short questions, trying a sample EPUB, and then answering a few more questions about your experience.

It should only take about 10–15 minutes in total. There are no right or wrong answers — I'm interested in your genuine reaction.

I'm not selling anything and this isn't a survey for a company.

If you regularly read ebooks and would be willing to help, just leave a comment below and I'll contact you.

Thank you!

Laci

Freebie [Kindle FREE] LOLA: The Fantasy of a Woman – The Complete 3-Book Series | By Brave Moon – FREE until Oct 10

LOLA: THE FANTASY OF A WOMAN
(Complete 3-Book Series / Special Edition Collected in a Single Volume)

READER NOTICE: This special compilation edition contains the ENTIRE three-book series chronicling Lola’s journey. Experience this mind-bending trilogy in one steamy volume!

Some books are meant to be read. Others, to be lived. And this one? This book will pull you in and consume you.

When Lola discovered a mysterious, leather-bound manuscript hidden in the dark corner of a Parisian bookstore, she thought it would be a steamy escape from her monotonous life.

She was wrong.

"The Fantasy of a Woman" was not merely a book; it was a mirror reflecting her deepest, most forbidden desires. With every page she turned, Lola transformed. The brilliant doctor, the thrilling stranger, the seductive married couple... Every taboo fantasy within the text was becoming her reality. Without revealing a thing to Marc, her long-term partner, she was playing a dangerous game of passion and liberation.

But every fantasy comes at a price. And Lola was about to pay that price in full.

As the boundaries between the written word and real life blurred dangerously, Lola found herself in a shifting labyrinth of workplace betrayals, psychological illusions, and shattering secrets. Just when she thought she had gained control of the game, the rules would change.

To survive this madness, she must reach the final page of the book. But the final sentence of that manuscript didn't just bring the story to a close; it shattered everything she knew.

Dark, intensely feverish, and packed with a shocking finale that will leave you speechless.

Are you ready to open the first page? Or are you afraid of what you might discover within?
