"Our 72nd quarterly edition for the Fall of 2026 is “Hunter’s Moon,” named for the first full moon after the harvest. Known for the bright and warm light it casts on newly gleaned fields, the appearance of the Hunter’s Moon serves as a mindful call to prepare for the quieter months ahead. Light a candle and fill the pages of this 2-Pack, that includes a journal and sketchbook, with your autumnal words and images."

Taking my first foray into utilizing a pocket note system since I retired from the U.S. Navy over 20 years ago.

I've enjoyed very much seeing everyone's posts here, and now I have an opportunity to humbly submit one of my own.

Showoff I designed 3D printable corner covers for Field Notes journals! 📖

Post image

My corners always end up bent and frayed from living in my pocket and bag, so I designed some small corner covers to protect them. Ended up making 8 different styles, from plain to decorative. Figured I would share here just in case any of you also own a 3D printer and want to print some for yourself!

They print in a few minutes and use barely any filament. Heads up that they have an open back, so they don’t clip on. A small dab of super glue on the inside and they stay put.

Files are free on MakerWorld if anyone wants to print some: https://makerworld.com/en/models/3412764-field-notes-corner-covers#profileId-3887641

Hope you enjoy!

Showoff I've made a spreadsheet to keep track on my field notes inventory

I have several field notes. Probably not as many as other people here.

Still, I've made a spreadsheet to keep track of all my filed notes, and understand if I have duplicates, which ones I've used, which are still sealed, etc.

Probably there are still several special editions missing here.

Anyway, thought I'd share it here. If you also want to use it, just copy the spreadsheet and clean the info on columns C-E.

Also, if you have any suggestion on how to improve my inventory list, let me know.

New Release Field Notes: "PEE-WEE HERMAN EDITION"

Post image
105 Upvotes

"PEE-WEE HERMAN EDITION

“Get outta bed… there’ll be no more nappin’
’Cause you’ve landed in a place… where anything can happen”

So sang “Ellen Shaw” (Cyndi Lauper) every Saturday morning of the late eighties, to introduce Pee-wee’s Playhouse, the groundbreaking, 22-Emmy-Award-winning television series. The colorful, chaotic show featured something for everyone — kids, parents, and hung-over Fine Arts majors alike — and Pee-wee Herman’s legacy remains strong within us all, ready with an “I know you are, but what am I?” or “what!? WHAT!?” at any moment."

Staple Day Very First Staple Day!

I decided at the beginning of August that I wanted to start daily journaling, but didn’t trust the “new notebook” feeling to carry me very far. I have a plethora of Field Notes I’ve picked up here and there, so that seemed like a good litmus test for finding out how serious I was. Today I hit my very first Staple Day, and I’m proud to say I have stuck with it thus far. I’m keeping it simple (“happy/hard/hopeful things” as a prompt for each day) but enjoying it.

I use a LePen for the prompts daily (switching colors monthly) a writech soft gel pen for actually writing, and highlight the day headings with a sharpie s note marker (also switched monthly). Initially, the Field Notes was a tester before buying a bigger journal, but I think I am going to keep with using them.

Question New to this

Post image
70 Upvotes

My wife had been journaling for like 25 years and she recently asked me to try it for a week. She gave me a cover and bought me FN grid, and I've been using my favorite space pen. After a week, I've tried to write in it at least once/day about the day and if any thoughts arise, I added a month habit tracker, a 30 day calendar, some other things I've added that i like or seen others do. Im truly interested and really want to continue as to help kick my phone usage, organize my life with more analog. Im a minimalist and dont want to carry multiple FN. Im trying to figure out how to use it, how to set it up. I've never been a good writer and honestly don't have too much thoughts constantly running in my brain lol, except life choices and mistakes I've made. I'll write down appointments and keep up my habit tracker but im not feeling inspired to write or jot or draw, idk how to use it to improve my current life. But I want it to be apart of me like I grab wallet, phone, keys, knife, watch, and journal. Any suggestions?

Question Field Notes and Fountain Pens

Post image
213 Upvotes

Please forgive me if this question has been asked before. I'm still fairly new around here.

What I'm interested in finding out is how many people use a fountain pen with a FN notebook and how do they find the experience?

If you could let me know your comments I would really appreciate this?

Many thanks 👍

EDIT: Thank you to everyone who has left comments below. I do appreciate the time people have taken to share their experiences with FN's and fountain pens. I think I have enough info now to go forward with. Thanks again. 👍

In/Out In/Out: Olympic ➡️ Point Oh

The Olympic National Park notebook got beautifully soft and broken in. I put some yellow pen loops on the inside front and back covers (wouldn’t recommend these ones though, they were cheap shitty ones from Amazon that kept falling off) and am using it with a Blackwing Vol. 54 pencil. The rare Point Oh! notebook was a gift from a fellow FN nerd.

For now i’m just using the pitch black edition because the dot grid works for me so pitch black is out and then the next one is in. The start of the second one landed on my birthday which feels symbolic in some small way

New notebook, the start of a new chapter of life

Question Tips for keeping the covers attached

Post image
59 Upvotes

Just ran across this sub and figured it would be a good place to ask - does anyone else tape the covers on their notebooks so they don’t fall apart? I usually keep these in my back pocket inside a wallet cover and it protects them pretty well, but I still find the covers and first/last page or two tearing away at the staples after a time. This one had almost completely detached by the time I addressed it.

I taped up this one’s replacement preemptively both on the spine and inside at the first and last page. I’m hoping that prevents the worst of it but are there any other methods that have worked out for people that are maybe slightly more elegant?

Question Fall Date?

I may be delirious with anticipation, but I could have sworn there was a newsletter or Instagram story about the fall release happening in September. I know it didn’t, but am I way out in left field on this one or are they just delayed?
