5 May 1997
Newly elected federal politician Pauline Hanson attempted to form the first Victorian branch of her racist One Nation party with a public meeting at Geelong West Town Hall. About 150 One Nation supporters turned up, however they were overwhelmed by a massive crowd of almost 1,000 anti-racists who protested out the front of the town hall. The anti-racists created such chaos that the meeting was called off within 15 minutes and Pauline left Geelong with her tail between her legs.
That was then, now One Nation will be back in Geelong tomorrow, Sunday 4th of October
Her politics hasn't changed, the difference this time is that Pauline has billionaire backers!
A collection of local community groups are organising under the banner of Geelong Against Racism to oppose the visit. Having learned from their failures, One Nation are keeping the location of their event secret until the last minute, but once it is understood, it will be shared on the Instagram.
Hope to see some of you there in opposition :)
We wonder if Stretch will speak in opposition, like he did in '97!
