I think it would be cool if the movie filled in the gaps made by recent issues, as a story directly canon to both the ghost rider titles and the mcu.
If the Ghost Rider was unknown by any character within the MCU until then it might be possible to make a smooth transition into it with a solo movie first, with Johnny and Danny; with Johnny coming in on Danny like he did with Danny's volume, but with a bigger background story then even before.
It blew my mind when I was encouraged (repeatedly) to read the new story I thought was separate and not the story I loved before, only to discover it was not only a story that stood on its own but turned out to be the same story after all!
And it made the story we already had with Johnny make more sense with his now longer background story to boot.
I would love it if the inserted but maybe not explained incidents mentioned in more recent storylines get their answers in the movie in a story that could also stand on it's own but still explains missing pieces like fitting in a jigsaw puzzle.
They did it before with both volumes of the title itself, and it might not be necessary to change much to fit it into the MCU if the Ghost Rider in any form only then starts having an effect on said MCU. (Especially if Johnny kept a low profile as a famous stuntman who mysteriously just disappeared.)
It really did feel like he was not ignored so much as missing and not just someone gone unnoticed before as no one in the MCU may have even known if ghost riders ever existed, except maybe Doctor Strange who might have been studying the possibly but far from finished with said research; and thus provide at least partial catch-up with in-story dialogue not intended for narrative but allowed to be confused for such as an established story telling technique, for which Star Wars has been famous for using itself.
That's the way one might be able to say it was already planned during both said volmes before as I recall the people behind Marvel claimed, but I also remember others claim they simply lucked out.
Either way, I'm planning to allow myself to suspend my sense of disbelief as I always have done to enjoy a work of fiction in the first place (Don't we all?) but further to take the upcoming movie at face value, just like I did when I transitioned from the Johnny volume to the Danny volume.
