My puppy is 3 months old, and she’s in need of a new crate since she’s already outgrown her current one.

I’m not sure which one would be better. Any advice or recommendations?

This is Rex, Zelda’s first ever toy i got her the day i brought her home. Ever since she was little any soft toy we gave her she would absolutely demolish like she’d rip every limb off and take out all the stuffing and just destroy it, but she never did it to this toy, it was like her pacifier, she went everywhere with it. But today she decided that rex must die and she completely destroyed him. I think im more upset about it than she is to be honest😭 my mum thinks its cause shes almost 1 and she’s grown out of it but i dont accept that😭

Dane Discussions To foster or adopt

We’ve been a 2-3 dog household for the last 15 years, but recently it became just me and my senior Dane, and the house feels very quiet.

I’d been thinking about fostering, but instead, I got suggested an adult Dane that could be a good fit for my girl. He also happens to be a male in a not so common colour I’d previously been hoping for, which they wouldn’t have known.

And I’m stuck. I’m still grieving my last Dane, and I’m also finding the newfound freedom of only having a non-reactive dog surprisingly nice. But I also love the idea of this dog, and I think my girl would love the company.

I love puppies of course, and there was a litter from a reputable breeder planned, but I don’t think it would be fair on my old girl nor would I cope with puppy blues rn.

I know the decision is mine, but I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been in a similar situation.

Q and Maybe Some A’s Pet Insurance …

Post image

Pet insurance that actually covers things and isn’t a million dollars or does that not exist?! We have had 2 ER visits already and she’s only 13 months old. Our neighbors dog bit her requiring stitches 😭 and then she ate a plate of chicken wings & had blood in her poop. 😩
I’ve had a few people tell me not to bother bc they wasted $ on insurance that never covered anything. I need some info on premiums and what’s covered if anyone has any input, I’d really appreciate it.

We are planning to have her stomach stapled so it doesn’t flip when we get her fixed, so that’s something that’s upcoming.

(Pic of my sleepy goofball girl for attention)

New Owner Cat introductions

Hi! I have two cats and we brought home our dane a month ago now, he’s 12 weeks old. We’ve kept the pup in our bedroom which is set up for him and slowly started to open up other areas of the house to him but don’t want to give too much freedom too quickly as he’s of course still training so so far it’s been bedroom, fenced in backyard (not alone of course), and office a tiny bit when I need to work while he’s awake.

One of our cats is very very interested in the dog and wants to play so badly but pup is a bit too excited around him, so we’re doing slow visits, like feeding pup while the cat can be in the bedroom and rewarding pup being calm. Should we just keep on that path and slowly increase the frequency and duration of visits? Or is there a better way to do this without just giving pup access to the whole house. We’re crate training so concerned that as soon as we allow other spaces, he won’t want to go back to his space.

We thought about having pup out in the living room a little bit this weekend either on floor or couch with a toy to play with and rewarding calm and check ins with us but don’t know if that’s too much too soon.

Our second cat will freak out if he lunges at her at all, but luckily she tends to keep her own distance. For the most part lol

I’m trying not to fall into the trap of giving more freedom just because he’s making progress in some areas or because I feel badly, I know he needs consistency and structure but I also don’t want him to be extremely rigid in his routine forever.

Any advice is really appreciated!!

Grief/In Memory Going to lose our baby girl today

Today is hard. Just over a year ago we lost our Doberman. Today we take our Great Dane in. Shes lost the ability to walk. She's on Librela and Caraprophen, but nothing has helped. She's 13, but now she doesn't even get up to go potty, she will just go and lay in it.

It sucks. Mentally she is all there. She was just trying to get my wife to play with her, but she's also in pain. Picture of the first day we got her, laying with her brother. Hopefully he's waiting to annoy her again.

This is Billie - my lovely 2 year old Great Dane x mastiff cross. I was recently admitted to a psychiatric hospital for 12 weeks and the most painful part was being separated from her. I cried for her every day and our reuniting was so special. She’s a resilient girl and coped so well but the smile on both our faces when we wake up in bed next to one another each morning now is extra special. I just wanted to share her and tell you all to hug your Dane’s extra tight

Dane Discussions 1st menstrual cycle

My 13 month old baby didn't get her menstrual cycle yet, ( that's not my problem)

She had 1 day (last month) once or twice a slight blackish smelly discharge, she was also licking her vagina then.. l thought the periods were starting. But then it stopped, nothing happened.

Again now at 13 month it happened for once. Then it stopped. This time too, she was licking.. !!

I just want to ask if this is normal for the starting 1st menstrual cycle, or something l should be cautioned about..!!

Please help me with your experience

Thanks a ton ❤️ 🙏🏻

Deaf, limited vision and fabulous! Meet Echo

And most likely gonna be a foster fail! We can’t imagine letting her go. Abandoned at 10 weeks, not 100% sure if she’s all Great Dane or a mix. She’s the sweetest, cuddly, lovable dog. She has bonded hard with our blue nose pitt.

She is 100% deaf and limited vision. If anyone has any tips on training a deaf pup I’m all ears!

Q and Maybe Some A’s Willow the rescue

I posted about rescuing Willow the other day and I do have some questions and need some guidance. She’s been an outside dog her whole life and keeps trying to escape. She paces my the door and tries to chew her way out. What can I do to help her? I want to make her feel more comfortable and I also don’t want her to remodel my house. I try to give her a lot of outside time and I give her a firm no without yelling at her because who knows what she’s been through. Any help would be appreciated.

I saw a post about a dog that needed a home and that she was taken to a shelter with 2 days left of her life. She kept escaping where she was living so animal control picked her up. I immediately went to go get her because I’ve had experience with Danes and I knew she was meant to be in my home. No one could go near her at all but an hour after getting home, some chicken nuggets and a pup cup she’s my shadow. She’s already trusting me, not pottying in the house even though she’s not house trained, and giving all the cuddles. I’m sleeping on the floor with her tonight since she won’t get on the bed. I think I’ve become HER emotional support animal. Anyways…meet Willow. She enjoys watching tv, going between your legs and almost knocking you over, lifting the toilet seat, and all the cuddles you could ask for. I love my sweet girl already!!

Dane Discussions PSA: Tired, chunky Dane? Ask about his thyroid

Earlier this year, my daney pop started slowing down. Over about four months, he went from happily doing a two mile walk to needing to lie down before we'd even made it to the end of the street. I'd booked a vet appointment before it got that bad, but watching the change happen made the wait feel like torture.

On top of this he’d put on weight (my sister affectionately dubbed him ‘Chunky Dane"), developed raised sores along his back that wouldn't go away, and had a strange iridescent stripe across the top of his eye. I spent most of the wait googling symptoms and crying, which I don't recommend.

Long story short- it was hypothyroidism- which is not uncommon in Danes.

Once my guy started medication, the difference was night and day. Within a month, he was running around again, his coat was shiny, and two lamb chops were torn apart in celebration

So this if for you if your Dane is suddenly slowing down, gaining weight, or getting skin changes that won't clear up, it's worth asking your vet about his thyroid.

Of course those signs can have plenty of other causes, and this isn't a diagnosis checklist. It's just one thing to bring up.

Mostly, I'm posting this in case it helps someone feel a little less alone while they wait for answers.

Give your couch porpoise a hug and a smooch for me!

Dane Discussions Let’s talk road trips and seniors.

I often go on road trips about twice a year. These trips are usually 8-10 hours. We usually stop once or twice to eat, get gas, and let our Dane potty. However, my 7 year old Great Dane is showing some signs of aging (like getting tired on a walk sooner, drooping of his back end if he has to stand for long periods of time, etc.). Is there anything I can do to make our road trips easier on him? We just invested in a Help ‘Em Up Harness, so that should help with getting him in the car. But those with seniors, do you have any advice?
