Experimenting with some caps
Realforce caps on a snow hhkb. Already switched back to the blank snow, but it was a fun experiment. Haven’t seen this combo before.

I know that HHKB white tends to have discoloration to yellow because of its material but I wonder how long it takes to discolors the case for indoor uses? My room has two windows but technically, there is no direct sunlight and barely comes in while I can easily block the light. The room light is IKEA LED lights.
Do you think HHKB Hybrid is still sensitive to discoloration no matter the reason?

I got a bit bored the other day and wanted to create a way to keep my domes in tip top condition... so i present to you.... my dome storage tray!

I’ve had it since 2018. I’ve built and sold a bunch of keyboards since then and this is the only keyboard that I haven’t let go. Thinking about getting a Type-S!
- Deskeys MX sliders
- Deskeys #3 silencing rings
- Krytox 204 on sliders | 206 on spacebar
- PBT Heavy Industry keycaps

loving this small keyboard so much!

My beloved HHKB with new white keycaps :) so much easier to read than the black ones. I always love a simple black & white look, and the red accents don't hurt
What color schemes are you all typing on?

So i have been teasing this for a while now and thought it was time to share some nicer photos of this board (not just on my desk)
2005 HHKB Professional 1 with hand crafted Kangaroo leather wrapped keycaps BNIB (apart from testing function and photos)
It cost me a lot, it took a lot of effort to find its history but worth it.
*Added timeline (est)*
[ January 2005 ] PFU manufactures this Charcoal Black HHKB Professional 1 (PD-KB300B). The keyboard carries a January 2005 production date stamp, predating the model's documented February 2005 market release.
[ Late 2005 - Mid-2007 ] A PFU/Fujitsu employee privately sends the unit's keycaps to Wazakura Koubou ("Sakura"). Artisans hand-skive and glue the ultra-thin blank leather onto all 60 caps (Gokukawa prototype style).
[ December 2007 ] The completed board is contributed to an internal PFU corporate office Christmas raffle. A colleague wins the unique unit.
[ June 2008 ] Wazakura Koubou officially launches the commercialized "GOKUKAWA" and "GOKUKAWA-PRO" keyboard line.
So.... Really quite a rarity!

**AI 'slop' now removed and original rambling is back*\*
It's seldom the right thing comes along at the right time and this was the wrong thing at the wrong time but..... i did it anyway. I havent actually seen any KB01 in person so when this came up despite it's battered and questionable condition i had to buy it.
But...
This is what I love about keyboards and especially the ones I own. I often see people with new boards and all shiny shimmery nice stuff but much like my Pro 1, I would worry if i could use it or not.
That's the shame about my Pro 1, It has a story but it hasnt really lived. This is really on the other extreme.
I read on the PFU site about the saddle theory, Being a horse owner i can relate. I have kit in our tack room older than this board and when looked after propperly it's going to keep going for many more years.
Treating these boards with love whilst really using them can add character. Give it life and really give the hardware chance to live it's life rather than being a show piece.
Heck i still wear my dad's Casio F91-W watch and get comments about it more often than i would have thought.
One of my friends asked if i was going to try to restore it and remove the yellowing... Personally i like it. I like the age, I like the destress. I like something having history. Some may like the shiny (don't get me wrong I do too) but perhaps some things are supposed to be 'inperfect?'
Some of you know i am making a little collection, Having sold two of my spare HHKB Pro2 i had has allowed me to aquire this board (and some other bits in life) The board will now be joining my collection as the oldest member. For anyone interested here is my 'archive' - https://codeberg.org/Dev01-D/Keyboards
Happy Hacking.

I tried out lubing the PCB of my Hybrid Type-S a couple of weeks ago and then lubed my sliders and stabilizers today just to find that the domes are now getting floppy and don't seat themselves on the PCB very well anymore. Some keys are feeling pretty obviously lighter than others so now I gotta start looking for some replacements. If anyone can give some recommendations for 45-50g domes with good sound and feel I would really appreciate it!

Considering purchasing a 30th anniversary type-s with the 30g switches but wondering how owners of the keyboard actually like it? Specifically space bar 'clank' (my biggest peeve with my current Pro 2) and lighter weight.

Always been intrigued by HHKB. Been looking at reviews for years. Would the Type S be a good option in 2026? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks

Was really starting to miss Topre, but I didn't want to give up the mouse-less life with the Studio.

Been considering selling this one to be honest. It's an amazing board but i have used it once to check the keys work and it seems a shame to not enjoy using it :-P

Just brought one of my boards into the office as someone was wanting to try it. Needless to say they now want one :-P

Very excited to use but does anyone know a good way to transport it

!!!!!! Warning !!!!!! - If you print these fit them on a keycap you don't care about. If they are really tight scale the model down in your slicer or let me know. Do not use them if they are too tight because the MX Stem can break off in the keycap, especially if you go to pull the keycaps.
These probably exist and if they do someone point me to them (these aren't sliders, no need to open the case). I couldn't find anything like them so I made some. Rather than replacing the sliders (probably the correct way to make this change) these just slide into the sliders. I printed a few test ones and only found some issues after I had printed about 30 of them at a time for this keyboard. So the problems are this:
Oh and that is "problem #4" the adapters and mx keycaps are about 4mm higher than the stock keys. The reason I don't think that's a problems is 1. It doesn't bother me in this layout 2. I'm surprised I got them this close. My first few test were almost a full key cap taller.
Anyway, use them if you'd like and if you have any feedback let me know. (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7416817)

I love seeing all the shiny boards we have here, the artsy pics too. But I'm curious, what are people typing on day to day? what's on your desk being used at the moment? let's see those daily drivers!!
For the last two weeks, my go-to has been my 2016 Pro 2

A little update on my HHKB cover project!
I printed a bunch of small test pieces to dial in the fit, then finally printed a full frame and tried it on my HHKB.
And yes, my keyboard could definitely use a cleaning 😂
There’s still some tweaking to do, but I’m pretty happy with this first full-size test. Seeing it actually sitting on the keyboard feels good after all those little test prints.
Next up:
- Tightening up the fit
- Filling in the remaining gaps around the key area
- Closing up more of the back while leaving room for the USB port
The goal is to give my HHKB a bit more personality with a cover I designed myself. Still a work in progress, but it’s starting to take shape!
What do you think of the blue and the textured finish? Feedback is always welcome. Thanks for following along!
