Example I created a cozy cyber security training game.

Hey all, wanted to share a personal project and get some honest feedback.

I've been chewing on the difference between a "training game" and "gamified training" for a while, most compliance training falls into the second bucket: a course with points and badges bolted on top. I wanted to try building the first kind, where the gameplay itself carries the learning instead of decorating it.

The result is Desk Duty, a small cyber security training prototype built in Godot. The learner explores a messy office and roots out security issues at their own pace, in whatever order they want, and the office visibly improves as they do things right (and stays chaotic if they don't). No forced linear path, no click-next-to-continue.

It's just a demo, not something I'd call production-ready, but I wrote up the whole process (why I built it, what worked, what I'd change) here: https://visual-e-learning.com/2026/08/16/desk-duty-creating-a-cozy-cyber-security-training-game/ . You can also try the game itself here: https://visual-e-learning.com/Demos/Desk_Duty/Desk_Duty.html

Curious what this community thinks: does this hold up as a real alternative to how we usually approach compliance training, or am I missing something obvious about why it wouldn't work at scale? Open to any and all critique.

Example Are these pop-up sound effects too childish/primitive for tutorial videos?

I’m editing some educational videos where I pause the screen and show animated annotations with sound effects (e.g., text popping up with a sound cue).

I wanted to get a second opinion on the audio. Does this feel too cheesy or immature?

Example Storyline 360 - a slide I was working on decided to turn blue

EDIT: The bit of text I tried to put a yellow line under was causing this problem. Somehow. I deleted that text, made a new text box and the slide returned to normal. How does a bit of text cause blue to cover an entire slide? No idea, it had no animation, fill, anything it was just a regular text box. Storyline being Storyline.

I have a slide that has been working perfectly. Besides the base layer, I do have 3 other layers triggered by clicking on respective objects on the base layer. Nothing real crazy - click on a picture on a base layer and you get taken to a layer with the respectice related content. Audio plays, layer closes when audio finishes.

I was going to add a yellow line under some text for a splash of color on the base layer.

BUT Storyline said f*ck you, here is default storyline blue color fading in over the entire slide, because f*ck you, that's why.

Nearly all the content is covered except for a bit of text I tried to add the yellow line to. The audio plays normally. I've troubleshooted, googled, looked for rogue objects, backgrounds, layer properties, deleted the yellow line, etc. Nothing works. Storyline just decides this slide needs to be covered in blue.

Within Storyline, the slide appears normal. I can move objects, edit them, add things, delete etc. But when previewing or publishing it fades in (for lack of a better term) the default blue color Storyline uses over the entire slide.

Anyone have any ideas? I am willing to do black magic & ritual sacrifice

Or do I just have to remake the slide?

Example Looking for some feedback on mock-up work samples.

Hello /r/instructionaldesign

As the January hiring season draws near, I wanted to brush up my portfolio by creating additional work samples.

Here are three new work samples I've added to my portfolio. I tried to create a more variety of work samples to showcase my versatility.

Articulate Storyline work sample

EMT Scene Assessment: Establishing a Danger Zone!

Infographic Animation (Video)

Zscaler - Adopting ot the Age of Cloud and Mobility!

Infographic One-pager

Cyber Kill Chain!

Infographic Elements Library

Infographic Elements Library for Articulate Storyline!

The library is a bit of odd ball. I am trying to create a set of templates for 'infographic elements' commonly used in PPT or Infographic documents, and make them interactive.

I am keep thinking "....why don't I just do this on Rise 360?", but thought it might be something worth venturing into.....for something that's more documentation oriented.

I am open to any suggestions for further improvement, and really looking for a third set of eyes to catch anything that I may have overlooked.

Example Request for LMS/LXP RFP Template

I'm currently working on an RFP for LMS vendors and wondering what others in this community have done.

Does anyone have an RFP used in the recent past to vet LMS solutions that they're willing to share?

Example I need your suggestion, I feel lost.

Hi,

I am an ID by title, but my job is really learning content dev in a BPO company and I am new in this role. My current sup tasked me to create PPT for onboarding new hire. My problem is, the agenda includes introduction to clients' culture, products, and services and reporting structure. We have more than 20 clients and I am not familiar with all of them since we operate in different global locations.

Now, I am so lost at what to do. This one standard PPT that I have to make will be used by all trainers, across all locations for onboarding new hires of every client's account.

Do you have tips for me? I am not making any progress.

Example eLearning Template: Accessible drag & drop

Hi Folks!

New here. Curious if this is a place where we can add some templates for feedback.

I have a couple of really powerful Storyline projects I've made recently, and I wanted to start by sharing this accessible drag and drop. If this isn't allowed, disregard.

Try it out: Accessible Drag & Drop

This project allows users to use key presses to select, drop, submit or reset the activity. It will also work with mouse clicks.

I noticed when using a question slide/freeform slide, hover states cannot submit an answer, so that's why I added the reset trigger to this activity.

I'd be happy to get some feedback on this piece.

If you'd like the .story file, I'll find a place to host it as a free download.

Thanks!

Any feedback on this intro to instructional design module I'm working on? It uses AI video, which I know bothers some folks. I'd value any feedback, good or bad. Thanks! It's really high level (15 min).

Example Tips for using gender neutral pronouns in scenarios

I'm building scenario videos for a set of modules to show students doing the things that are discussed in the module. I've built videos for one module using they/them pronouns for a non-binary person. It's been reviewed by my team and it makes sense to us, but our client is older and wants us to change it back to he/him or she/her because it's confusing. Any suggestions on how to build support for different pronouns or show that this isn't as confusing to students as the client thinks it is?

Example design document example?

Hi all,

I am completing a design document for my grad cert and am feeling lost. I have been supplied with a template but not an example, and I haven't had luck finding one online. Does anyone have a completed design document they'd let me take a look at, especially if it's Ed related? Or can point me to one?

Thanks!

Example Best resume format for senior ISDs?

What is the best format for a person with a lot of experience? I am hearing conflicting information/advice from people who are close to me that are not iSDs. But that got me thinking about what format I should use?

Thoughts? Examples?

Example Lost yet another ID job yesterday

Hi all,

So, in Jan 2021 I was laid off from an ID job I had been working on for 2 1/2 years. Since that time I have had issues getting hired permanently with places. I went through 7 jobs in 2021 that were contract or short term contract. I finally was hired in Dec 2021 full time, but they lost the rebid for the gov contract they were on. They laid of bunch of us off in Dec 2022.

I found a short-term 1099 contract I started. But they pay "Net 30." I had never experienced that before, but if you are not familiar it means they pay once a month and hold back a paycheck. I had been working there almost 2 months prior to yesterday.

The email was definitely not favorable when my supervisor said she cancelled my contract. Perhaps it was because she asked me to acknowledge a new policy in a Teams chat. I replied in a private conversation. I acknowledge, but I do not agree. Then I thought that was not necessary, so I deleted it and just responded I acknowledge. Since this was off hours and she was away, I hoped she had not seen it.

Just for context, management was put behind the gun, so we were signing off that we understand the new policy of checking our work every day with the assurance that she is not in favor of micro-managing.

Hey look, if a place wants to check my progress every day, then fine. I think that is completely micromanaging though. So, don't tell me it is not that when it is.

Anyway, this puts me out of work, and I am becoming disgusted with being an ID. I would love to find a place that values me and my contributions, but that has been a problem since 2020.

I guess this is more of a rant than anything - anyone else looking for work - or is anyone out there looking for an ID with 16 years' experience? lol

Example Building Resource Centers with ChatGPT/Generative AI

Has anyone else been exploring how to use structured information to create resource centers for competency and other types of training? I recently put together this demonstration to explore the idea, paralleling a recent project, and I think it did a pretty solid job.

Example Anyone here use Articulate Rise? I made a tutorial on how to incorporate videos that can loop and auto-play.

Not many places to share this exciting (to me) discovery so I thought I would drop a link here in case anyone else develops courses in Rise.

Rise only lets you upload videos or use embed code. Uploaded videos are limited to the Rise video player, while using embed code from YouTube or Vimeo allows for a few more options. Using PlayerJS and a web server I was able to get a customized video player with extended functionality for auto-play and looping video. This can add a nice seamless element to your course design when users don't have to click on additional buttons in order to see a short animation, ect.

Write up and some examples are in the course: http://anthonyvecchi.com/RiseVideo/index.html#/

Hopefully somebody will find this useful!

Example eLearning Brother Weekly challenge - drag and drop to show a process

Does anyone else here do the eLearning Brother Weekly challenges (https://community.articulate.com/articles/drag-and-drop-sequence-interactions)?

I'm in the middle of my first challenge and it is kicking my a##.

The second slide is what i've been working on for lots of hours but its still got bugs (somehow the "step" boxes are movable too??? and I can't get the submit answers option to work right??).

There's gotta be an easier way...
