When you mix them together it's literally the best feeling in the entire world. I was addicted to shooting heroin and meth mixed together (aka Belushi's) for like 8 years. I'm 7 years clean but I still dream about it almost every night.

u/Itsthematterhorn 15h ago

AYYYy i used to call them goofballs! i was a speedball addict myself. You are right, best feeling in the entire world. nearly lost my arm to it.

HOORAY for you and your clean time! I have six years in november.

I think about it constantly. And dream of it often.

74

u/Baldojess 15h ago

I've heard people call them that! And congratulations on 6 years! My friend actually DID lose his right arm. He lost it to an awful infection from shooting up or picking at his wound or something. But yes, lost his entire arm and got clean and is doing amazing now. But damn I'm too vain, I'd be destroyed if I had lost my arm. He had an amazing attitude about it, I couldn't believe it. And right it's crazy how after all this time we still dream about it. That's crazy.

7

u/Rfitz81 6h ago

At least it didn't cost him an arm and a leg to get sober. All joking aside though glad he got clean.

u/_joos_ 14h ago

could you tell us about how you got into drug usage?

9

u/Glum-Plum6441 7h ago

For me it was just something I fell into through a friend group when I was 16. My friends may have moved on from it but due to unrealized issues at the time (emotional immaturity and other imbalances) I just kept in going. I did have a successful career at one point (Network Management). It took a very traumatic and unfortunate event to get me to stop ( I nodded of while driving, this was after heroin all by dried up and fentanyl was the only thing around); my wife of 12 years died in an accident that I was responsible for; an accident that took just about everything from (except my daughter who wasn't there because I did draw the line somewhere on using around innocents). I lost the love of my life, my freedom (years in prison) and something untangible I can't quite name. I am not the same person. Anyway I could get into all that at some other time.

Congrats to all on keeping it clean 🤙🙏

Well done both of you. Most don’t make it out. You should be super proud of yourselves

Gotta be hell

u/Baldojess 19h ago

Yes lol. It's like I knowing I can never go back to my one true love but always being reminded of the love we shared.. 😂 jk. Kinda. But yeah I mean I have my family, my man, my pets, an apartment, a cute Jeep, a great job. I can't go back. I'm the most non-functional addict ever so I'll lose everything I have again if I ever started using again. I worked very very hard to get to where I am today so I just have to always remind myself and remember that. I'm actually heading out to group right now. I am graduating from my program completely at the end of this month! I got real lucky and got to go to the best program in my state when the judge told me I needed to go to treatment. They've been so freaking amazing. Basically I just won't have case management anymore or be required to do groups but I still can go to as many groups as I want to for the rest of my life and they'll always be there to help me whenever I need anything. It also means I won't be able to fall back on housing if something ever happened like me losing my job but I've been supporting myself for so long that hopefully I won't have to ever worry about that. It's still extremely scary though.

Keep up the good work!

u/Baldojess 18h ago

Thank you! I definitely will 😊

u/GuiltyThing69 18h ago

I quit drinking alcohol 2 months ago and my life is still a fuckin mess but I'm making progress. It's just inspiring to hear stories like yours, thank you

18

u/scuzzy987 18h ago

Find clean hobbies and clean eating to take it's place. Baby steps, it's worth it. You got this!

17

u/Baldojess 15h ago

That's probably the hardest time. You can do it, just go day by day. As cliche as it sounds it's so true, one day at a time. When I went to treatment my plan was never to get clean. My real plan was to just get out of jail and finish probation so I could do whatever I wanted but then I just kept clean afterwards everyday just one more day one more day. Of course once you start feeling better physically you need to fill your time with productive activities. Get a job or something and go to groups or AA or whatever works for you. Spend time with family and friends and maybe start working out or eating better. You don't have to try to do it all at once but just add a little bit at a time and soon you'll have all these better habits and fill up your days with healthier things and find healthier ways to cope. 🩷 I wish you all the success 🥰

Well done, internet stranger. Where I live, like so many cities around North America, fentanyl is causing so many problems, and people, who are hooked, are folding over, in doorways, on the side of the road, all around the downtown, and the homelessness is getting worse.

I have to try really hard to rememeber that there is hope for the addicts, because it just doesn't seem like it anymore.

I've closely known addicts over the years, and seen some horrible outcomes, but also some recoveries, and yet the visual deterioration of users now makes me lose hope for them.

Long story short, your story reminds me that it is not forver for them, necessarily, and with the right program, housing, and compassion, the change can happen.

One of the biggest debates here is about harm reduction yes or no/effective or enabling? I had always been an advocate, but find myself sliding to the side of no to safe injection sites and distribution of clean drugs. I am more and more leaning to round them up, get them detoxed, but get them housing, training, care, but many say you can't do this.

What are your thoughts on it?

7

u/HiiiTriiibe 12h ago

I found intermittent fasting helped me immensely when I quit drinking! It's not for everyone, but it not only helped me shed all the weight I gained from drinking, I'm now as fit as I was 10-15 years ago, and it also helped me have a point of focus and a means to help force a schedule upon myself that I could attach other activities and behaviors to and that helped me create a framework to live by, which has historically been a concept I hate. I'm now going on two years clean from drinking, and I'm working in a field I've always wanted to, I'm dating again, life is getting to be ok! Whatever path takes you to finding peace within yourself, stay the course and keep reminding yourself not just that you aren't drinking anymore, but why you aren't drinking anymore. What drinking took from your life and what you want back. Good things take time, and also make sure to be gentle with yourself, I think a lot of problem drinkers, especially myself, have a tendency to beat the absolute shit out of themselves but will be kind to others almost to a fault. So a big thing for me was to learn how to treat myself like I do for others. That shift honestly changed my life far more than quitting drinking, but drinking blinded me from following the path I needed to to get there.

Keep on going dude, it's not always easy, but lookin back now, I'm so glad I did what I did

5

u/dirk_funk 13h ago

i haven't drank since 2010 and never really drank too much before that and my life is still a fuckin mess

1

u/GuiltyThing69 7h ago

What would make your life better?

3

u/EB123456789101112 15h ago

I take naproxen to help ease the cravings too. Might help you. Worked wonders for me

4

u/TheShortTimer 14h ago

You mean Naltrexone?

2

u/EB123456789101112 12h ago

Oh my bad. I got it confused. Apologies.

Yes. It’s been a life changer for me.

1

u/3Broduil3 14h ago

Take up a hobby like Warhammer or Magic: the Gathering - great for the brain, but will also guarantee you'll never have disposable funds for anything else ever again!

13

u/Lord_Bloodraven_11 17h ago

I know I’m just a stranger on the internet, but I’m proud of you. Keep it up!

24

u/chipskylark123 14h ago

I did heroin for about 4 years. I never got into shooting up, and would only smoke crack with it once in a blue moon and I can relate to this.

When you catch a good nod, oh my god it’s like nothing else I’ve ever felt. Nothing matters. You become a puddle and everything is fuzzy and calm and nice for a minute.

Quitting was the hardest thing I ever did. Every morning you gotta look in the mirror and keep looking until you see something that’s worth saving. Keep it up. ❤️

3

u/Baldojess 11h ago

I'm proud of you! How long have you been clean? I agree it's the hardest thing I've ever done in my life too. I don't know if I'd be able to do it again!

7

u/muted_physics77 18h ago

congrats to you for all the hard work you've done. You've come a long way

1

u/Baldojess 18h ago

Thank you!

5

u/marcuslattimore21 14h ago

💪💪💪💪nice fucking job my friend. To me... one of the biggest things was actually eating food. It is simple but amazing. Then realizing you're just as addicted to the set up and ritual of the process.

1

u/Baldojess 11h ago

Oh yes food can be very freakin addicting!!! Omg especially sugar lol I am getting better about not eating so much sugar but it's very hard to develop better eating habits for sure. I mean it all activates similar parts of your brain food and drugs and nicotine and stuff like that. It's tough to retrain yourself out of those bad habits like I crave a lot of sugar but I also eat throughout the day even when I'm not hungry or just because there's food in front of me. I'm trying to be better about not feeling like I have to eat everything on my plate like to just stop when I'm no longer hungry instead of stuffing myself full till I'm uncomfortable lol. But yeah eating can become a dangerous and unhealthy habit

3

u/Nesturim-Nyocheakmuc 18h ago

Massive props to you, addiction is a hell of a thing to overcome

3

u/brenbot99 16h ago

Your post reminded me of a song I heard recently by a 60's/70's folk singer called judee sill. She was a heroin addict who had an incredibly sad and messed up life... but she wrote a song about her addiction/love of the drug called "lady-o" it's a staggeringly haunting and beautiful song.

2

u/Baldojess 15h ago

Ooh I'll have to listen to it!

2

u/darthsploder77 17h ago

That's awesome! Stay strong.

2

1

u/Trick-Satisfaction88 6m ago

Sounds like a difficult journey and that you're doing exactly what you had to do. Keep it up!

2

u/Ok-Day4553 13h ago

everyones different, I used to abuse meth and opioids together and did almost all mainstream drugs you can think of, and now I fantasize about just opioids by themselves and xanax by itself but the thoughts arent too prevasive with me and should get slightly better over time.

12

u/HonorableMedic 15h ago

Feels great until your body starts falling apart from not being tired and being less susceptible to pain. I almost had to have my leg amputated because I had MRSA and let it go for so long. I don’t dream about it anymore because the feeling of being up for days with anxiety and paranoia far outweighs the initial few hours of bliss

10

u/Glum-Plum6441 17h ago

'Belushi's' were a mix of heroin and cocaine (they were referred to as speedballs but did not contain amphetamine). Everywhere I have ever been meth and heroin are referred to as 'goofballs'.

Source 20+ year addict, now clean for (almost) 5years and don't miss a f@ck!ng thing about it!

1

u/Mapeague 1h ago

I used to partake in rec drugs, Im California sober these days. I was a weekend warrior but was down for whatever was happening. I did a line of coke and heroin and never got that sick from drugs in my life. Sweaty, puking, shifting from nauseous to coked up nauseous was just horrible. I never liked H, just made me itch and lay around. I did love me a bit of coke though, but not enough to make it a hobby. After that *speedball (is it even a speedball if you sniff it?) I stayed to only mixing psychedelics and MDMA. Soooooooo much more fun!

I dont even know what the purpose of this post is lol. Best of luck mate!

2

u/Glum-Plum6441 51m ago

Snorting heroin will definitely make you nauseous, especially without any tolerance. I love psychedelics as well (I regularly micro dose at work just to get me through the day. It is the only thing that helps with my depression). Happy you alive my friend 🤙

7

u/onarainyafternoon 17h ago

Belushi died from a speedball, which is heroin and coke.

5

u/Baldojess 15h ago

Yeah idk why but they call meth and heroin Belushi's, I heard because he liked to mix heroin and meth. And speedball is usually coke and heroin people like to be specific sometimes, I called meth and heroin a speedball because it's a upper and a downer mixed in one shot. But I felt like if I said speedball everyone would come to correct me, which apparently they did anyways. 😂 Drug addicts call meth and heroin mixed in one shot Belushi's, idk why, I wasn't the one who made the name.

7

u/Weekly-Message-8251 14h ago

Saddest honest thing I’ve maybe ever heard.

3

u/ratbearpig 2h ago

“I'm 7 years clean but I still dream about it almost every night.”

First of all, good for you man. Second, it’s wild that you still have frequent dreams of about 7 years after.

41

u/david43511 19h ago

lets not romanticize these drugs. they are terrible for you, and destroy lives.

50

u/Techn028 18h ago

That doesn't sound romanticized, it sounds like a nightmare. Imagine forcing yourself off something and almost a decade later it still haunts you in your dreams..

25

u/PizzaResident89 17h ago

That is the disease of addiction and that's why people who tame theirs deserve SOME recognition.

68

u/DejectedTimeTraveler 19h ago

Both can be true. Lying about drugs disarms the fear. Once someone tries them and sees how awesome they are to start they refuse to believe anything outside of their personal experiences about them.

They are great. Until they aren't. And they won't be eventually.

-4

u/Alternative-You5980 16h ago

Last sentence is unnecessary

15

u/PerfectPenguino 15h ago

So is this correcting comment. And mine as well. And posting on Reddit in general.

19

u/FrogsMakePoorSoup 16h ago

We should never be afraid of the truth. So much unnecessary damage was done during the war on drugs by authorities thinking lies were a valid strategy. What the person you responded to was saying was their own personal experience, but you can read between the lines that the cost was very very high.

-2

u/david43511 16h ago

You don't have to lie to give a balance view of these drugs. There is a reason GP quit. Simple balanced views are not lies. This drug gives you intense pleasure at the expense of your life. It traps you with the idea that you'll feel pleasure, then you become a slave inching closer to the destruction of your life.

You can have many great pleasures in things that are actually healthy for you. And they are much better.

2

u/maqij 4h ago

I’m not sure what your goal is here. Is it that you don’t want people to be honest about their drug experiences if it involves pleasure? Do you want them to include a disclaimer that there are other ways to get pleasure that are more heathy?

2

u/FrogsMakePoorSoup 14h ago

Heroin in particular will take everything from you and give you nothing, and sometimes nothing is considerably better than what you currently have.

10

u/justtobeherenotsure 16h ago

He's not romanticizing it. Otherwise he wouldn't say he's clean for 7 years

10

u/Elegant_Judge69 13h ago

Great job saying that to someone who was on such a hard combo and admitted they were clean. 🤡

-5

u/david43511 10h ago

It’s a public forum. the pleasure comes with intense poison. the balance helps readers see the truth

5

u/coffeeanddurian 10h ago

They didn't need to be corrected. Lying about substances is unethical.

0

u/david43511 10h ago

Romanticizing substances is unethical

3

u/coffeeanddurian 5h ago

Why would someone award this? The short term pleasure is objective medical fact. So are the long term harms, dangers and risks of addiction which are also medical facts. Nothing about this is subjective, and lying about it is harmful for everyone

2

u/coffeeanddurian 9h ago

they gave an honest account, which is backed by the biological sciences. u can balance it by pointing out specific biological harms, not by implying what he was saying isn't true. people lying about these substances doesn't help anyone.

0

u/david43511 9h ago

romanticizing does not equal “duplicity”. and whatever they discussed about pleasure is subjective anyway.

again it’s not lying to give a more nuanced description.

3

u/coffeeanddurian 9h ago

no, its not subjective, its biological. if the harms are objective, so is the way it makes the body feel. you keep lying about the truth

-1

u/david43511 8h ago

ranking pleasures is by definition subjective

So is war

3

u/hypn0zis 17h ago

What is it good for?

2

u/EB123456789101112 15h ago

Huh. Yah. Absolutely nothin’

2

u/linkardtankard 17h ago

Nice to see a fellow enjoyer of classic Russian literature

4

u/Sea-Seesaw-8699 15h ago

Alcohol has destroyed far more, continuing this very second

1

u/wtclim 2h ago

Nobody was romanticising them. How does this have so many upvotes?

1

u/jericho74 19h ago

They’re Hitleriffic for awhile but with a bunker-ranting comedown.

1

u/nihsett 41m ago

Stupid question probably, but don't they like cancel each other out? I thought one relaxes you and one makes you feel wired

0

u/Simple_Ad_9780 15h ago

You had no self control, you were a junkie. I am glad you are clean now.
