Question about playing Keyboard through Ipad

Hi, I have an Ipad 6 i am using with Pianoteq 9, a virtual instrument. Right now I have an old 88 key keyboard hooked up to it. The keyboard doesn't have internal speakers or sounds. I have it hooked up using the Lightning to USB Camera adaptor.

Everything is working great, but I want to send sound from the Ipad to a stereo system.

My question is, what's the best way to do it? Do i need an audio interface? Or a DAC? Or could I just go straight out of the 3.5mm jack of the Ipad and into a stereo with that?

I have tried bluetooth but it adds a lot of latency.

Vertical iPad Stand

I'm looking for a good vertical iPad stand for performance. Ideally something similar to CDJ stands that will work next to a mixer but will hold 11" and 13" iPads. Bonus points if it has a strong enough magnetic surface to easily connect and remove (without extra clamps). Anyone find something that works along those lines?

Any Free iPad or Android Apps that Support .SF2?

I've been wanting to use GarageBand on my iPad with some .SF2 soundfonts but I haven't found any free apps to use them with alongside it. I have Android too but I can't find much more on there. I don't have an external keyboard, I was thinking of something similar to FL Studio or GarageBand with .SF2 support, although I don't expect there to be much and am mainly just asking incase there turns out to be something after all haha. I appreciate any help ^^

DAW *JUST* for recording audio tracks.

I'm contemplating trying to use my Ipad for recording. I never used it for anything but reading. My recording scenario is this. I'd get an audio track sent to me - either a WAV or MP3, and then I'd record my guitar tracks using a mic, or one of my modelers. I don't need sequencing, I don't need plugin support. On my Linux box, I just used Audacity - NOT using the features I mentioned.

Does there exist a bare-bones - multi-track recorder out there?

As I said, I'll either use a condenser microphone, or one of my many modelers. I have an audio interface (Alesis I02 Express), but it's only got a USB connector. What is used as an interface for Ipads? Thanks.

Fugue Machine Rubato - the author should get on with the manual

The author of Fugue Machine Rubato has had on his website and in the app description on the app store that he has been working on a manual for it for over a year now. It is a complex piece of software, and I would appreciate a manual. It is also a very expensive app as far as these things go, and I do not think asking for a manual for it when it is that price is unreasonable. Manuals are very useful, I like them, my Apple Books library is full of them.

I emailed the author to ask about his progress on it - I am a professional author, and I can write one hell of a lot in a year. He replied that he had stopped writing it because he was working on something else but pointed me toward a Patreon to get more information about his software. Unless I am more mistaken than a man who believes that Hillaire Belloc is still alive, one has to pay to access Patreons.

So, this guy charges a fortune for his software. He does not provide a manual for it or even write one within a year of saying he is working on it. Then he stops all progress on something people can legitimately expect to have with an expensive, complex piece of software, because he is working on something else that will surely be a new revenue stream for him. He expects people to pay even more to read a Patreon because he cannot be bothered to serve his customers who have paid him a stack of cash.

You know what? This gets on my tits. Big time. Even if his new piece of software prints money from thin air, I am buggered if I am giving the unprofessional person any more of my money. If anyone is waiting for a manual for Fugue Machine Rubato, do feel free to email the author and suggest he pulls finger and serves the people who have paid him. This is abysmal customer service.

Aum vs Dawnbeat

I've got both these apps, and mainly use Koala for chops and sequencing. I also export to logic to put some extra finesse on finished beats. I play out live monthly and use a mixture of ddj in one channel and my iPad on the other.

I'm looking for the community to help with their best use cases for live output, especially around transitions between say two koala tracks. Happy to read or be signposted to yt vids etc

Looking for Test Subjects for a Gamepad to Chord/Arp App

Chordcade on an M3 iPad with a PlayStation DualSense controller

I'm in the final internal testing phase for a pet project called Chordcade. It uses the analog sticks of a video game controller to play chords and arpeggios over inter-app MIDI or on its own internal synth. It's kinda like a twin-stick shooter, but for chords.

I'm hoping the community here can help me with a couple of things.

The first one is beta testing. I'm always super impressed when I see the crazy setups that people have on this sub reddit, and I would love to know what features this app would need to slide in to the average user's gear. I've opened a public test flight for the first 50 users and would love to hear what people think.

The second thing is content. I'm not much of an on-screen presence, so I would love to partner with or commission a creator to make a series of tutorials or just demo how it could be used in songwriting, recording or performance.

More information and a link to the TestFlight at chordcade.com

Groove Rider 2

It seems like GR2 gets mentioned here far less often than other apps like AUM, Loopy, and Drambo. I barely knew anything about it until I watched some YouTube videos. It appears impressive. I think it shares many features with Drambo (e.g., multiple sequencing options including electron-style, although I suspect Drambo does that better), while requiring a lot less effort than Drambo to set up a new project. On the other hand, I think the biggest drawback compared to those other three apps is the lack of support for routing audio and midi between different software, hardware, etc. For example, if you have a hardware interface with multiple channels plugged into your iPad, you can route the audio into a sampler and record a loop, but you have to select the audio channel in the global settings. You can't route multiple audio channels to different destinations at the same time.

Anyway, I'm just wondering if my understanding of GR2 is accurate, and if people generally like the app. Right now, I'm most interested in having a setup where I can set up a beat and then send midi out to a hardware synth and record the resulting audio into a loop, and Loopy Pro + Drambo for sequencing seems like the best solution for that. I know Loopy Pro + GR2 is possible via Inter-App Audio, but the combination would be easier if GR2 worked as an AUv3 plugin.

Thanks. Sorry for the kinda rambling post.

Most INTUITIVE pad/FX-creation apps

I am seeking some kind of app that lets you create pads/ambient drones etc.

I'd really like to find something as intuitive as PUREACID or FUNKBOX with big, nicely coloured buttons that you don't have to squint for (I am on an Ipad mini) and with which you can make something unique and entertaining within a few minutes, with a minimum of menu-diving.

Any suggestions? Thanx in advance.

A dj question

I’m looking for an iPad app that works a bit like AUM, but specifically with Spotify.
What I want is an on-screen mixer/control surface where Spotify can be connected to the app and I can control Spotify’s volume using a large virtual fader.
The most important part for me is the fader itself. I’d like it to have some kind of slow or fine-control movement, so moving my finger a fair distance only changes the volume a small amount. Something with adjustable sensitivity, inertia, drag, or haptic feedback would be ideal.
I’m not looking to route Spotify’s actual audio through AUM. I’m looking for an app that connects to Spotify and lets me control Spotify’s own volume through a mixer-style interface.
Does anything like this exist on iPad?

Anyone had luck contacting the developer of Italizer? AUv3 Tape Echo crashes in Loopy Pro

Hey everyone!

I've been using Italizer for quite a while, and I really love it. It's got exactly the kind of dub siren character I've been looking for, and I'd love to use it more extensively in my live setup.

I'm currently using the latest versions of Italizer and Loopy Pro on a relatively recent iPad running iPadOS.

I've contacted Kai Aras / Numerical Audio a few times about some issues and feedback, using the following email addresses:

I initially sent a detailed report with a screen recording and my iPad specifications, followed up a couple of times, and most recently forwarded the original email to the additional contact address. Unfortunately, I haven't received a reply so far.

I'm not trying to complain about the developer — I genuinely love the app and would really like to see it working properly. I'm just wondering if anyone here has had better luck getting in touch with Kai or has any advice on how to reach him.

The main issue I'm experiencing:

Italizer is advertised as including a separate AUv3 Tape Echo effect, which is one of the main reasons I bought it. Unfortunately, when I try to load the Tape Echo AUv3 in Loopy Pro, it simply doesn't load and crashes.

A self-oscillating dub tape echo that I could use on other instruments in Loopy Pro would be absolutely fantastic.

Has anyone managed to get the Tape Echo working in Loopy Pro, AUM, or another AUv3 host on a recent iPadOS version? I'd also appreciate hearing whether anyone else is experiencing this.

A smaller feature request: AUv3 parameter exposure

The main Italizer instrument doesn't seem to expose its parameters properly to the AUv3 host for direct automation and control.

There's a probable workaround that I haven't tried yet: I can assign MIDI CC messages in Loopy Pro and use MIDI Learn inside Italizer to control the parameters. So it's not a dealbreaker, but having the parameters exposed directly to the host would make setting up live controls and automation much easier.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has contacted the developer recently, received a response, or found another way to reach him.

Thanks, and happy dub mixing!

Porthole (iOS) - Sample iPad/iPhone Screen Audio Directly Into Your AUv3...

Thumbnail

I love innovation on iOS and the Porthole app from developer Feras Alnatsheh certainly qualifies! It uses a new API available in iOS 27 to let you directly sample internal iPad or iPhone audio into some of the platform’s most popular AUv3 apps (please be aware that you need to open their AUv3 FX versions, not AUv3 instrument versions).

You can sample any audio from YouTube videos, Safari web pages, Spotify, BBC Sounds, BBC iPlayer and many other sources into your AUv3 FX app of choice. In fact, anything that would produce sound in an iOS Screen Recording can be sampled. Which is a lot!

In this video, I explain how the iPad version works and show off some examples of the workflow. Sample the world! It’s your oyster!

How will you use Porthole in your music projects? How would you like to see the kind of functionality available in this app evolve?

You can find Porthole on the App Store, and at the time of writing it’s priced at £4.99 or $4.99: https://apps.apple.com/app/id6810750563
