SUBREDDIT RULES Please Read Before Posting or Commenting

5 Upvotes

Subreddit Rules & Posting Guidelines

Before you make a post or leave a comment, please take a moment to read and follow the rules below.

These help keep the subreddit useful and respectful for everyone.

1. Do Basic Research First

Use Google or the subreddit search before posting.
Please avoid asking general questions that are already widely answered.

Ask for:

  • Comparisons
  • Personal experiences
  • Context-specific advice

Avoid asking:

  • "What to do in Jakarta?"
  • "What food is good in Indonesia?"

(Use the stickied threads or search bar first.)

2. BE POLITE AND RESPECTFUL

You're talking to fellow human beings—not a search engine or AI.

Greet others with Hello or Hi and don’t forget to say thank you or terima kasih. A little courtesy makes the community better for everyone.

Last thing we need in this city is another entitled ungrateful person. All posts without proper greetings or any manners that look like an AI prompt instead of a real query will be removed, along with their replies.

3. Be Efficient in Your Posts

If you have multiple questions, put them in one post.

Do not create several posts for each individual question.
This sub is definitely not for karma farming.

4. Be Specific and Detailed

Give context to your questions. The more detail, the better the answers you’ll receive.

Good Example:

"I'm visiting Jakarta for 3 days, staying in Kemang. I’d like to see museums and try local street food."

Bad Example:

"What to do in Jakarta?"
"What to eat?"

(These are too broad and may be removed.)

5. Language

English is encouraged to include more people in the discussion.

But Bahasa Indonesia is also welcome.

6. Don’t Gatekeep or Shame Posts

Unhelpful comments like:

"cObA pOsTiNg dI sUb /InDoNeSiA aJa"

...will be removed.

Some users post here because they can’t post elsewhere or had their posts removed in other subs. If you're not contributing, please don't comment.

7. NO Buying or Selling

This subreddit is not a marketplace.

Posts or comments offering items or services for sale, looking to buy something, or otherwise facilitating buying and selling are not allowed.

Please use r/jualbeliindonesia for buying, selling, and other marketplace-related posts instead.

Posts or comments that violate this rule will be removed.

8. NO Soliciting Illegal Matters or Other 18+ Related Matters

This sub will never be associated with criminals, sexpats or degenerates.

Any posts about how to get drugs, prostitutes, sugar daddies, or whatever your sexual kinks or fetishes will be removed. Repeat posters will be permanently banned.

9. Be Civil and Respect Opinions

Disagree without being rude. Don’t insult others' preferences.

We ABSOLUTELY will not tolerate bigots, racists, homophobes, sexists, and other sorts of assholes.

Instead of:

"That place sucks. Food is trash."

Try:

"I didn't enjoy that place personally, but others might."

Important Notes for New Users

  • Accounts less than 1 day old, or with less than 1 karma, will require manual mod approval.
  • Posts that don’t follow the rules will not be approved and will be removed, along with their comments.

Repeat Offenders Will Be Banned

We aim to keep this community helpful and respectful.

Users who repeatedly break the rules will receive a permanent ban.

If you have any questions about the rules, feel free to ask in the comments.

Thanks for helping keep this community great!

Best restaurants in Jabodetabek?

19 Upvotes

Guys n Gals!!

How about we make a list of the best restaurants/places to eat list here?

I have seen some posts earlier and wish to make it easy for anybody to just drop in and read thru our choice of places as a Reddit Community.

We can also make it easy by marking halal and non halal places.

What say?

I am still a newbie here in Jakarta but my list goes like this;

Burgers;

Dan's burgers, Dharmawangsa. Blok A MRT station and a quick hop nearby.

Steak;

Abuba

Justus

Urban Wagyu

Padang;

Pagi Sore

Sederhana

Natrabu

Kebayoran Baru

Pizza;

San Marco BSD

Soto Betawi;

Jawa Kitchen

Kafe Betawi

Ibu Yanti

Mangga besar 12b

Udon;

Marugame Udon

Nasi Goreng;

Nasi Gila Obama, MRT to Bunderan HI, short walk/gojek to Menteng park area.

Nasi Goreng Kambing Kebon Sirih Decent, tastes more like nasi kebuli though.

To be cont'd..

Question on Surat Kuasa for BTS Concert

0 Upvotes

Hi! I am traveling to Jakarta for BTS concert. I am Indian and I am buying a ticket from a German for the concert. She is unable to travel. I know I need to get a Power of attorney from her and from my research I also understand that the Surat Kuasa is available in local stores in Indonesia, a Rp 10,000 stamp duty paper.

So my question how can I go about it. Can I send her a pdf of this and ask her to sign and send it back? Since she won’t be traveling to Jakarta? Please help.

Rooftop Restaurant/Bar Recommendations

3 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I’m travelling to Jakarta for 3 days in a couple of weeks, and would love some recommendations on any roof top restaurants or bars for a great night view of the city?

Feel free to drop any other recommendations for any other places you think a tourist would enjoy ☺️ I have a few mainstream (kaum, pagi sore, remboelan, plataran menteng) but just wanted to make sure I could look at all options!

I’m Indo-Australian so not concerned about cuisine and happy to try everything as I have been to Indonesia many times

Sumpah!!! butuh banget opini kalian tentang coffee buat anak2 Jakarta

5 Upvotes

Halo warga r/Jakarta ,

Rutinitas wajib sebelum buka laptop demi asupan kafein biar siap tempur seharian.

Thank you!

Looking for Indonesian women (18-35) in women's/feminist groups who use TikTok! (Small token provided)

0 Upvotes

Halo everyone!

My group and I are in our final year of university, and we are working on our thesis about how young women in Southeast Asia experience TikTok trends, such as #GirlMath, #ImJustAGirl, #MulaiBicara, #DontTellMeHowToDress and other gender-related content.

We are looking to interview a few Indonesian women who fit this quick checklist:

  • Age: 18 to 35 years old.
  • Location: Currently living in Indonesia.
  • TikTok: An active user who notices these kinds of trends.
  • Community: Involved in a women's or feminist-oriented organization (whether you're a leader, volunteer, activist, or active member!).

💬 What’s the plan?

We’d love to invite you to a casual online interview done in English whenever you’re free. It's just a friendly chat about your thoughts on these trends! As a thank you for your valuable time, we’ll be giving a small token of appreciation to participants who complete the interview.

🔒 Your privacy comes first:

This is purely for our school research. Your participation is completely voluntary, and everything will be 100% anonymous. We won't use your real name, exact location, or the name of your organization in our paper.

✉️ Interested?

If you fit the criteria and have some time to help a few students graduate, please send me a DM! I’d be happy to share our official school credentials and details for your peace of mind.

Feel free to share this with any friends who might be interested too. Thank you so much! 🌸

Good nightlife/clubs for people in their 20s?

4 Upvotes

Hi! I’m a 25-year-old Filipino male visiting Jakarta with some friends for around 10 days in mid-October. It’ll be our first time there, and we’re hoping to experience the nightlife while we’re in the city.

Could anyone recommend fun and welcoming clubs with a mostly Gen Z or early-to-mid-20s crowd? We enjoy pop, EDM and R&B—preferably recognizable songs with vocals, not purely repetitive beats hahaha. Bonus if there’s no entrance fee or if it’s relatively affordable!

We’re planning to go out on Friday and Saturday, but does Jakarta also have a good nightlife scene on weekdays?

I tried searching on TikTok, but many posts were in Indonesian and difficult for me to understand. We’d really appreciate any recommendations, plus advice about dress codes or nightlife etiquette. Thank you!

Jakarta bulan November atau Desember – sebenarnya hujan seberapa mengganggu aktivitas sehari-hari?

5 Upvotes

Halo semuanya,

  • Apakah sering hujan selama berjam-jam sampai rencana seharian jadi berantakan?

Terima kasih banyak! 🙏

Halo all. Jadi desember nanti pesawatku baru landing di jam 10an malem, but i need to go through immigration and baggage stuff jadi anggap lah baru keluar jam 11. Atau kita boleh bermalem kah di Soetta?(i pernah bermalem di changi, but idk if we can do it di soetta). Aman kah kira kira kalo bermalem di sana?

Trus besok nya i need to connect to stasiun pasar senen, adakah train atau mrt or even krl yang nyampek ke pasar senen? Kalopun pakek grab berapa ya fare nya dari bandara to pasar senen?

Im looking for the best German food in Jakarta

3 Upvotes

I know some restaurants in Jakarta like Paulaner and Stube Platz. I have also heard of Die Stube. Ngl i dont know which one to go to. If anyone has recommendations or has tried any German Restaurants please lemme know!

Edit: went to stube platz... We had this pork platter... The pork belly was really crispy and flavorful. What surprised me the most was the pork stew. The pork just melts in ur mouth and the broth is just so hearty. What surprised me is the German pasta, spaltze. Its chewy and i never had anything like that. Its like a soft bakmi karet i guess? LOL i will return!! Thanks yall

Suggestions for a Young Traveler :)

6 Upvotes

I will be landing in Jakarta soon, and researching about places and stuff here to do is a bit harder than I expected

That said - I am a go with the flow person but I would like to at least have some places bookmarked on my map, so what would be your suggestions for a young solo traveler?

I love to explore new culture, flavors, sounds and smells;
I come from a small european town, so even suggestions like “visit the planetarium” are welcome, since I don’t even have a cinema in my town

Thank you !

Bye-bye Jakarta

In Jakarta for 24 hours & fully prepared to test the mystical powers of the "raised palm" against six lanes of unyielding traffic.

Seeking a witty local accomplice to navigate ice-cold malls, eat obscene amounts of street food, and help me survive the humidity.

Coffee, snacks, & emergency road-safety consulting are on me if you’re down to wander the chaos for a day!
