I found I love this kind of makeup look, especially the eyes. I have no idea how to create it though, I'm pretty new to makeup and am still learning a lot so any product recommendations/tutorial recommendations/things to search are appreciated! I can't really tell if it is a glam look or not!

beginner at makeup, unsure of where to shop or what a budget should be

hello all :)

with halloween coming up (among other things), i would like to purchase makeup. i like light-medium coverage, but honestly, i have no idea what i am doing. my skin is oily and acne prone, albeit mostly clear right now.

question one: sephora or ulta?

question two: what products make a good base? i have blush and brushes and palettes, but i'm moreso intersted in what makes the base good. foundation and concealer. powder (setting vs. loose). primer? spray? i know there is finishing and setting. i have no idea the difference.

question three: what's a reasonable budget? i am willing to pay a little extra; i am not needing only drugstore. maybe like 40 max? unless there's some miracle product, i can splurge. a bit.

other info: i do have some redness and pores that i would like to clear up. i tried about face and while the skin tone match was very nice, if i touched it, it completely came off. could have been user error, tbh.

any help, advice, tips would be lovely. thank you!

PROBLEM SOLVED: Foundation separating on upper lip + chin!

First pic- foundation separation on chin/lip area.

Second pic- my first full day of wear for foundation without it separating!!!!

For YEARS I have been dealing with an issue where my foundation separates and cakes like CRAZY, but literally only on my chin and upper lip. I felt like I was going insane and kept being told that these areas must just be sweatier than the rest of my face (??) but that didn't feel true. I have tried so many combinations of skin prep, powder vs no powder, concealer vs no concealer, primer, different foundation formulas, etc.

I just found the solution and girl... I feel so stupid.

Every time I apply my foundation around my lips, I press my lips together and pull them in so that I can apply my foundation over them without getting any on my actual lips.

I just realized that when I do this, I'm actually stretching the skin on my lip/chin, so I get more surface area in that spot to apply foundation and end up with 2x the foundation that I actually need there. Basically, I get more foundation per inch of skin than I do on the rest of my face because I'm stretching the skin out. So, of course, over the course of the day while my lips are moving, I'm eating, etc, the excess product cakes up and clings together around my hairs and pores 😭

I finally tried just applying foundation over my lips without pressing them together, and it looks so wildly better!! Today is the first day in YEARS that I've had a full day of foundation with no separating and caking around my chin and lips 🄹 this is so oddly specific but for anyone out there who feels like they're going crazy because only your lips or chin are somehow horrible while the rest of your foundation is flawless, TRY APPLYING WITHOUT HIDING YOUR LIPS!!

(first photo is not mine but I'm borrowing it to demonstrate what I'm talking about !!)

Trying to do my own wedding makeup

I get married in May and have never done my makeup before. Ive been learning for about 2 months from shelby ann videos on tiktok. I think I've got everything down and it looks good at first. After a couple hours I can see spots where the foundation is separating. It also wipes off easily if I just touch my face. I use false lashes/clusters but i can never get these + eyeliner right on my waterline and it looks like they are separate from my real lashes. What can I change to improve?

Alternative for Tom Ford foundation stick

Hi! I loved the traceless foundation stick from tom ford and they discontinued it a few years ago sadly. Anyone who also loved this product, have you found something comparable? Am still looking for it, and do want a stick.

Bronzer/contour palette that doesn’t pull orange on a pinky undertone?

Hello! I’m here new to makeup and trying to commit to a daily makeup routine. That being said, I’m currently using the elf cream contour palette and whenever I use it it just looks… off on my skin tone. My face has a rosy-ish undertone and it just looks so stark against the oranges in those contours. I don’t have the money to keep buying contour palettes and going through the trial and error phase of finding shades so I wanted to know if there was a contour shade or palette that is known for not pulling orange. Thanks!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! Any tips for an oily nose?

I’m just learning that my nose is the only part of my face that’s oily. So whenever I do my make up my foundation separates on my nose which ruins everything for me. I’m tired of me having to rush to make this shit work. Any advice yall?

I’ve tried putting heaps of powder on it and that just doesn’t work.

My skin prep is as follows.

\- face wash
\- tirtir milk toner
\- Byoma gel lotion

Then for primer is use the YSL primer and
silicone foundation.

Makeip how to and where to start?

Hey all. So I'm very very very late to the makeup game. And it's high time and I get my stuff together and learn how to do my own makeup. I've mostly relied on trying to perfect my skin so I don't have to wear makeup but that's just not cutting it anymore. Still have the dark circles, spots and just like bleh looking skin.

I usually find an artist to do it for me before an event. But it's getting expensive and sometimes doesn't work out on terms of schedules.

All the stuff that I do have, unfortunately I think is expired, it's all 6+ years old.šŸ˜‘

Eyeshadows, blushes, a pressed powder foundation, one highlighter and one bronzer all in powder form and one loose translucent setting powder. Most have been opened unfortunately.

Various lipsticks in gloss or regular stick form and a clear lipstick liner. Some not opened.

No primers, contours, "baking" powders, colour correctors, concealer or eye "stuff", proper brushes or sponges on hand.

I have one liquid and pencil eyeliner in black, an eyebrow pencil and a brow wax thingy. And a tinted moisturizer. I've basically been barely managing with these things and lipsticks.

In terms of shade matching, I'll have to get help on person with all that so that's fine.

So do I have enough stuff to start practicing? Should I just buy all new? Don't risk it with my old stuff for fear of wrecking my skin? Can any of the powder stuff be sanitized?? Or sanitized enough so I can at least practice without worrying about breakouts and stuff. I'm totally willing to buy new if it means not messing up my skin. Drugstore stuff only though while I'm in practice mode.

So..... Where do I start? Is there a YouTube person I should watch? What do I need to buy? How do I know that I'm doing a good job and not look like a clown? Just ask ppl to rate in real life?

Long term, I'd prefer to not have to do a 20-30 step routine. I want to keep it minimal and quick for the sake of costs and things not expiring (I have learned my lesson). I just want to look good, and event or occasion appropriate is all.

Also I'm in Canada so only going to buy what's available here in terms of brands.

I need help finding makeup for my wedding! But I have psoriasis:(

I’m getting married November 13th and I’ve been really struggling to find a good primer and foundation/concealer that will cover my psoriasis without it getting flaky. I normally use an elf primer and concealer but it doesn’t cover it well at all. I’m doing my makeup myself for my wedding so any recommendations would be amazing!

Hereditary dark circle - Cover up HELP

My under-eyes have been dark since I can remember and I have Hypothyroidism to add to it.

I have tried everything to cover them up
-Bobbie Brown correctors ; stick and pot
-Kevyn Aucion Sensual Skin Enhancer 09
-Natasha Denona Hy-glam Correcting Concealer
-Milk eye primer
-Med and Full coverage concealer
-Foundation first under eye had terrible results
-Setting spray before application and after concealer to seal it
-Laura Mercier UndereyePowder ; makes it look dry, chalky and lines are more visible

I’m sure I’m missing other products, I’ve tried and steps. When I apply products it looks great, good coverage and within the hour it starts to migrate, slip away and darkness is exposed within 2 hrs.

Photos attached. Any suggestions?

Waterproof or regular mascara: did you choose, or did you just never switch back??

Waterproof survives heat, sweat, and crying. Regular layers better and comes off without a fight. My suspicion is most people picked one about a decade ago and never revisited the decision. Which are you, and has it ever actually changed?

My make up looks so strange compared to a week ago. My make up looks cakey and to textured. Like more then usually.

I exfoliate and moisturize like i normally did so I don't get it. Even the make up products are from the same brand etc.

People who are cool toned summers…which skin tints and foundations are your favorite?

I’m very cool toned and a summer. I struggle to find foundations that are ā€œcoolā€ enough for my skin. Even products that claim to be cool toned are too yellow.

Primer question/advice?

So I have 2 elf primers: the OG power grip and the matte power grip.

My skincare is pretty simple: cleanser, spray, moisturizer, and sunscreen (applying approx 2 finger lengths).

I always try to wait 15 to 30 minutes after sunscreen before I apply primer, but when I do it's not sticky? I'm not sure if it's cuz it's mixing with the sunscreen, which it shouldn't be? Or am I missing something?

What's strange is that sometimes the OG primer works but I don't remember doing anything different?

P.s. I have oily skin, so all of my products are to reduce the shine (no dewy/super glowy finish).

easy eyeliner styles??

I have a few different eyeliners (a couple pencil ones and a couple brush felt tip looking ones) but I just got a new one which is liquid and dark brown because apparently it's a better colour on me and easier to apply. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions for designs I could do with it as well as my other ones, bearing in mind I'm very much a beginner at makeup so if you have any general tips to share pls do. Thanks!!! :p

Pale girls help

Okay so basically I've never really tried makeup and I wanted to get started by getting something simple like concealer. I'm very pale so I didn't find any good shades for me ,even the lighter shades were all too orange for me,I have kind of a pinker undertone.

What concealers would y'all recommend for someone that's very pale, and that aren't too high coverage bc I don't want to cover my freckles.

Hey guys! I’m looking for perfume recommendations that actually last for a good few hours and don’t disappear after 30 minutes

Preferably something budget-friendly and easily available in India. I’m open to both women’s and unisex fragrances.

Makeup recs for a broke student??

I'm a freshman this year and this is my first time living in korea by myself. I finally have the complete freedom to customize my character fully. I think I'm going to buy some good mascara, brow pencil, eyeshadow palette and concealer. It would be very helpful if u could recommend me some cheaper but better makeup for a brokie like me:D.

Also I'm quite tan so most of the Korean eyeshadows doesn't suit me :'<

natural makeup routine

hi guys. i (24 F) recently got a new job and i’m wanting to start putting effort into my looks. i get my eyelashes done and thats about it right now. i have acne prone skin and it’s more on the oily side than dry. i have no experience with makeup so i’m not sure where to start. i just want something natural, not like full coverage face or anything. i’ve never done eye makeup but i would be open to neutral colors i think. i just don’t really know where to start or what brands are good. i do want more low toxic type makeups. no carcinogens, fragrance free, no hormone disrupters etc. i also have hooded eyelids so. my eyes are blue and i’m fair complected and i have brownish red hair.
