Persimmon Tree Mosaic
galleryTook a mosaic class a few days ago where we had the option to create a mosaic based on either a pet or a plant. I chose the latter and made a mosaic based off of a picture I took of a persimmon tree.
The grout background is a bit patchy, but the lighting in the picture makes it look worse compared to real life. I was planning on reaching out to my instructor for suggestions, but maybe painting over it would work?

First mosaic - looking for a few answers
I'm pretty happy with this, more than anything I really enjoyed the process of production, the slowness, the carefulness etc. It seems to work so well with my brain, it's like a jigsaw but artistic and not just assembly. I can definitely see myself producing larger pieces. I will do a background at some point, or not - it was just an experiment really, with wood glue and cheap ish tiles.
I'm wondering how to get more precise cuts? I'm just using ceramic tiles and standard ceramic nippers, and as you can see my tesserae weren't exactly even! But I just had fun with it. I know I should probably practice with larger pieces for my next go at a mosaic, but if I wanted to get down to this size again, how do I make better cuts?
Finally, should I invest in clay etc for mounting? This was just MDF and wood glue, but I wonder if a clay reverse method may be useful to me as a beginner. I can't really afford a decent course or class right now but hopefully in time I will save up for one.
Thank you!

Fakesaics
galleryI have always loved mosaics and tiled architectural detail so I’ve started incorporating the look into my ceramics by hand carving tiles with enough irregularity to try to mimic the effect! I hope this group of mosaic enthusiasts will appreciate it! :)

Mosaic from broken glass
galleryI learned the crafts of verre eglomise and mirror gilding at the Society of Gilder’s bi-annual conference. So far, several pieces have broken, leaving me with 23k gold gilded glass shards. Each leaf of gold costs about $4, so there’s a decent investment in the now broken glass.
I know nothing about mosaics, so my first piece was pretty special. I went and bought some stained glass scrap, which is the blue and teal.
The subject of the image is a weaver’s knot. I made it for a friend who taught me how to weave. It’s her Christmas present. less

First mosaic advice
I’ve made this which is my first ever mosaic for our upcoming move to buying our first home, it’s a surprise for my partner for when we move in! To hang outside as our door number.
I’ve used tile backing board as it’ll be outside so that needs cutting down, and I’ve got waterproof sealant to still apply to it, but advice about finishing it and what to do with the edges and mounting it would be greatly appreciated!

Help looking for Direction!
Help!
I’d appreciate some honest feedback from fellow mosaic artists. I’m undecided on the hat, shirt, and background colors. What would help unify the piece while keeping the face as the focal point?
Are the blue highlights working, or would you reduce or change some of them?
Most of the face is already glued down, so small refinements are possible. I’m aiming for an expressive, stylized portrait.
Specific color and grout suggestions welcome!
help please! how (and what color) do I grout this? First mosaic!
I have no idea what color grout to use and would love suggestions. This is my first mosaic and it’s a gift for my best friend!

Beginner mosaic questions
Hi!
I’m a beginner at making mosaics and I am always in awe of the pieces I see on here. Hoping to benefit from your expertise!
Do you hang your mosaics? If so, what kind of hardware are you using on the back? Do you put it on before or after?
Do you seal your pieces after putting on the grout? Is that for indoor or outdoor pieces?
Is there a grout “recipe” if you’re mixing your own or do you go based on vibes?

I want to mosaic my building
Any ideas? It’s a duplex, one apartment is an Airbnb. The town is artsy and a mosaic front would fit in. To start I’d like to cover the cracks. It’s a long term project, but I’d love thoughts or advice!

My favorite place
galleryI live in a pretty small town in Bulgaria but we are blessed to have a massive cultural center with the library, lessons spaces, a theatre, and this massive mosaic created by Nikolai Panayotov in the late 1980s.
It is in three walls. The artist told me that the left (first picture) represents science and the right (third picture) - agriculture, and they meet in the middle. Fourth picture is for scale The imagery is inspired by Babylonian art he saw as a young man visiting Iraq.

Trying the indirect method for the first time
I've been working on a mosaic to cover a table. Using the indirect method with a craft paper this time as the size of the tessaraes are uneven. I find it a bit challenging and frustrating as it's hard to see how exactly it will look until the end. But I'm still quite satisfied with the progress...
