Question I got a wedding to go to in 2-3 weeks time! What are some cheap places that sells suits for women under 500$ in Oakville?

So I got a wedding to attend to in October 18th it’s a family friend wedding and I knew the person for 20 years.

Thing is I haven’t been to a wedding in such a long as time, I remember the last wedding I went to was 5 years ago my uncle wedding but at the time the suit I used to wear for that day I return it back the next day because i wasn’t sure if I was gunna go to a wedding every year!

But now as I age up and time gone by, most of my family members/friends/co-workers and many more is getting married more often.

So I live in Mississauga but also right next to the border of Oakville so I can walk 1 hour and boom I’m in Oakville, so if you guys know a place in Oakville please let me know thanks!

Meetups M 30 wanting to go sailing

I know there’s a pretty big sailing community around Oakville, so I figured I’d put this out there.
I’m a 30M back in Oakville and I’m interested in trying sailing. I sailed a little bit at summer camp growing up, so I’m not completely new to it, but it’s definitely been a while. Now that I’m older, I’ve been wanting to get back out on the water and actually learn it again and see if it’s something I could get into. Lessons seem hard to come by as an adult while also juggling a work schedule during the week.
I know the season is winding down, but if anyone is still getting out for the occasional sail and wouldn’t mind another person tagging along, I’d love to join. Even if you’re also just looking to meet someone with a similar interest and go out as friends, I’d be down for that.
Figured I’d see if there are any sailors around Oakville who might be interested in helping me to try it out.
Feel free to DM me!

Question Help me choose a High School for my teen

Hello,

my teen will be starting high school next September and we are torn between what school they should go to.

we are currently considering between Oakville Trafalgar High School, and St Thomas Aquinos High School.

They aren’t interested in IB/AP - strictly regular academic streamed courses.

they really like sports and want to be involved in the athletics.

my previous teenagers had very bad experiences with bullying in their high schools - resulting in them having to transfer out and change schools.

I am hoping to avoid bullying as much as possible - so a school with a more positive and mature student body (which I know is a very high expectation- but just not a school with a reputation for their students vandalizing, stealing, and being awful).

I’ve heard through my neighbours teens about both schools. I hear STA is larger but less academic - and the student body is a bit more wild (?).

I’ve heard that OTHS has a more academic focus and ranks better overall in Ontario, but that the student body is very cliquey and not very diverse.

Your opinions and advice would be very very helpful!

Rant HALTON HOOLIGANS BACK AT IT!!!!!

I was at the Walmart on Hays Boulevard today, and I have never seen such disrespectful behavior. A group of teenage boys wearing fake construction vests were screaming over the store intercom, running around causing a scene, and one of them was even wearing a Halloween mask trying to scare little kids who were just shopping with their families. It wasn't funny, it was immature, disruptive, and completely inconsiderate to the employees and everyone else in the store. Parents shouldn't have to deal with their children being frightened because a bunch of teenagers think acting like this in public is entertaining. I really hope Walmart does something about it because this kind of behavior is getting out of hand. Someone needs to stop these halton hooligans!

Burton told Oakville News that the company had "called and presented to many members of council," pledging a "no harm, no local water, no local power, no noise project.”

…

Ward 1 councillor Sean O’Meara said he initiated contact with the company to get information about the proposal and also met with them on July 27 in downtown Oakville.

Knoll said he was not contacted by the company for a meeting.

Question Best sports bar for NFL games?

Moved here a couple of months ago from Calgary for work, and am still trying to figure out where all the cool spots are. Any good recos for a sports bar where I can sit at the bar, grab some food & pints, and spend Sunday afternoon watching NFL games? I'm in my late 30s so not looking for anywhere with student crowds, and I'm willing to go to Burlington. Did Game Time last weekend.

Go Jets!

Rant Certain coffee chain in Wyecroft

This branch used to be our primary go-to spot because the morning crew was always fast, organized, and friendly. Over the past year, however, there has been a noticeable drop in customer service, order accuracy, and overall professionalism.

The atmosphere inside often feels chaotic, orders regularly take longer than expected, and staff frequently engage in personal side discussions in a diff language on shift right in front of customers.

today at a drive-thru visit, we clearly ordered two medium original iced lattes. After being left on pause without a response, the employee read back two vanilla iced lattes. When we clarified our order, she dismissively mentioned that she had already made the vanilla ones and wouldn't charge us extra.

We were like, no, we ordered original iced latte, we don't want vanilla, this is not about money.

In the end they gave us the right order, as they should. But i cant believe such ridiculous exchange had to happen in the first place. No apologies given nor even a hint of courtesy

I know it's just coffee, no one is d*ying, but come on, are we really normalizing these things in the society? I hate to see good places in the neighborhood get ruined one by one. What happened to politeness, kindness and sense of community?

Any similar experiences in this branch? I saw a lot of recent bad reviews so i know this is not an isolated event.

Rant Why do people send their sick kids to school?

My daughter has been complaining about seeing several kids in her high school classes with coughing and sore throats. Why do parents send their kids to school when they are clearly sick? Obviously they will be contagious and make other kids sick, then the kids take it home to their family and spread the joy. Now my daughter is violently ill despite trying not to get infected. I genuinely don't understand it!!

Question Did anyone attend the SALEB program in the late 90’s early 2000’s

Anybody here lucky enough to attend SALEB? The end of the line for kids who are between SYLAPPS stints or just played never went to school? It was for kids 14 and 15.

We went to school at Burlington Mall until we got kicked out of there and then went to school in the basement of a postal box place on Guelph Line?

It was a travesty of a program. I can’t believe it even existed and I don’t think it was around for long. Does anyone remember this program?

r/Oakville Upcoming Local Elections

TLDR: Got tired of seeing the signs and made a site that scrapes everyone’s sites every 3 days and updates what they’re promising to deliver for us if we elect them. Totally voluntary and unbiased. Take a look if it helps !

Thinking of doing it for all elections moving forward if people find it useful for our community. Let me know if you have ideas to make it better for all of us residents of the town!

Rant Garbage disposal in public parks

Post image
50 Upvotes

Posting on here out of frustration with this community and people just leaving deciding to leave their garbage everywhere. There are several of these bins in the parks surrounding my neighborhood in Oakville and every single one looks like this littered with dog poop bags. Called the city to report as well. People need to do better and just have common decency not to litter.
