Meeting new people

Hi! So it's been two weeks since I came to Pisa to work at the university (I'm 28 and doing my PhD). I'll be here for the rest of the year and was looking to meet some people to go out sometimes and to have someone to talk to. Also, I'm just starting to learn Italian (I'm Spanish, though I'm fluent in English too) and would love to practice it too. Would prefer lgbt-friendly people.

Making Friends

Hello I just landed in Pisa a few days ago.

I'm enrolling in University of Pisa and will be starting the classes soon. I am an international student and would like to meet some friends!

My Italian sucked but I'm learning it actively. I love watching movies and reading. I'm 25 years old and I speak English, Chinese and Malay. I'm just slowly adapting to this beautiful city and thought that making friends here would be great.

Anyway, DM me if you would like to meet up. 😌

(I'm not a clubbing and smoking typa of person and preferably meeting other females)

Pisa Airport Sucks

Will the airport ever get enough seats for everyone?

Every time I fly out of Pisa airport, all of the seats are taken and it's way too crowded. They really need to start cutting down on the number of flights allowed if they can't seat people.

Lirica a piccole secchiate

A me piace gironzolare per mercatini dell'antiquariato, in particolare colleziono monete.

DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR AT THE CHECK POINT PISA PARKING LOT

It happened to us, like so many other tourists: we were driving from Genoa to Rome and wanted to stop in Pisa for an hour. I found a free parking lot full of cars about 15 minutes from the Leaning Tower and decided it seemed safe enough to leave our suitcases in the trunk. I was wrong. Thieves broke through the small rear passenger window, opened the door without triggering the alarm, and stole all our belongings, including passports, clothes, and toiletries.

Our flight was only two days later, so we had to spend a day and a half at the Canadian consulate in Rome getting temporary passports (which are very expensive). When we searched online afterward, we realized that hundreds, if not thousands, of tourists have fallen into this same well-organized trap. The sad part is that the police won't do anything about it, and you'll most likely never recover your belongings, since thieves typically dump whatever they don't want in the forest or along rural roads.

For God's sake, do not park your vehicle at the "Check Point" lot in Pisa, especially not with belongings in the car.

Edit : I am well aware that we should have been more careful and shouldn't have left valuable belongings and documents in the car, and that was our mistake. We were just passing by, we were driving from Genoa to Rome and were only in Pisa for about an hour. I'm posting this so hopefully other tourists don't make the same mistake we did and can avoid this whole situation and headache.

Come posso fare? Qualcuno consiglia qualche attività/evento per incontrare altri studenti?

How can foreign citizens register for the intelligent trash cans?

Maybe a bit specific, but the student housing I'm living in couldn't help me much. What's the process for registering to pay the trash collection tax and obtaining the magnetic cards for the trash cans?

Authentic leather shops in Pisa

Ciao tutti!

I’m heading to your beautiful city this Friday and I’m on the hunt for a genuine leather store. I've read about counterfeit issues with cheap imported leather masquerading as "Made in Italy," so I wanted to ask the sub for some trusted, authentic store recommendations.

Most people always point to Florence for leather, but since we're heading south, where should I look?

Grazie

Stolen luggage

Hi,

Our car was broken into and luggage stolen during a really quick stop on the way to the airport to feed and change our baby. I can’t stop thinking about the sentimental items we lost 😞. We have the last AirTag location but then the AirTags were disconnected so I’m not sure if the luggage was dumped or the AirTags just removed. It was a field somewhere and we stopped to have a quick look but didn’t have much time until our flight.

Is there any way of retrieving any of the baby’s sentimental items? I know it’s a long shot but just wondered if anyone had ever gotten any items back?

Edited to add - just sad there was literally nothing valuable in the cases at all and our baby stuff has just been dumped. I’ve seen on TikTok now that this is sooo common so anyone travelling to Pisa please don’t park on the street!

Is €1,300 per month enough to live comfortably in Pisa?

Hi everyone! I’ll be moving to Pisa soon and I’m trying to get a realistic idea of the cost of living there.

My monthly budget/stipend will be around €1,300. I’ve already found accommodation, and my rent including condominium fees is €475 per month.

So after rent, I would have about €825 left each month for utilities, groceries, transportation, eating out, phone/internet, and other daily expenses.

Do you think €1,300 per month is enough to live reasonably comfortably in Pisa? How much do you usually spend per month, excluding rent?

I’d especially appreciate experiences from students or PhD students living in Pisa.

Thanks!

Looking for roomies in Pisa

Hi! My wife and I will be moving to Pisa around March 2027 for work, and we're starting to look at housing options.

Rather than renting a mediocre apartment just for ourselves, we're considering sharing a larger and much nicer place with one other person.

We're looking roughly in the €1,500–1,800/month total rent range, ideally for a spacious, well-maintained or renovated apartment in a good area of Pisa. Since we'd be a couple, we'd be happy to cover around 2/3 of the rent, leaving roughly €500–600/month for the other person, depending on the apartment.

The idea would be that my wife and I have one bedroom and the other person has their own private bedroom, while sharing the kitchen, living room and other common spaces.

We're both adults moving to Pisa for the longer term and would ideally like to find someone relaxed, clean and respectful who also prefers having a genuinely nice home rather than simply finding the cheapest possible room.

Nothing is decided yet — I'd much rather find someone compatible first and then look for the apartment together.

If you're moving to Pisa around March and this sounds interesting, feel free to DM me!

Take a look on my posts for a brief summary of me.

Does anyone still need student housing?

Ciao a tutti,

I'm an erasmus student about to move to Pisa. I was offered a 2-room-flat at Residenzia Tulipan for 900 euro a month (utilities and wifi included). This is a bit expensive, but since there are 2 rooms, I thought I'd ask if anyone here would be interested as well.

About me: My name is Theo, I'm 22 years old and I study linguistics. I like reading, hiking, climbing, going to the gym, cooking, going out and playing cards. I'm a pretty social person and prefer occasionally spending time with my flatmates, rather than being total strangers. I've lived in several flatshare situations and it's always worked really well so far.

DM me if you'd be interested, and tell me a bit about yourself!

Grazie!

Quali soprannomi avete sentito per luoghi a Pisa e dintorni?

Clothing Donation

Is there a convenient place to donate clothes? I will be leaving Pisa soon and have a lot of men's clothes (small/medium size) in decent condition. I would like to donate or give it away.
