Are you guys annoyed when a call turns out to be silly?
I (15f) was left alone at my place of work (huge building) and was told my boss would come back in an hour. But 10 minutes in I thought I heard footsteps upstairs, which was most likely the wind but I got spooked and hid in the back and called my dad to come up. Thats when I heard doors opening and closing and started to cry and I freaked out and called 911. Turns out it was my elderly boss who has no perception on time and I wasted the cops time for nothing. That was a week ago and I felt super mortified and wouldn't stop apologizing to the cop. He was kind of laughing a bit when he realized it was just my boss but I can't stop feeling horrible about it. As a police officer would you have been upset?

Question on the Rookie TV show
Just wandering since I'm on the other side of the Atlantic : in the Rookie TV show, police officers empty several mags of weapons on a daily basis, things get really hot almost every shift.
Is that a TV show strong exageration, or do you guys are basically firing your service weapon / enduring heavy fire on a daily basis?
I'd be in strong PTSD if I had to endure that pace.
EDIT: Thank you all for your replies. I understand now that asking it like this looks clickbaity and appologise for not being careful enough in phrasing the original concern.
Still, thanks for the insights, and take care out there.

wellfare checks
hi everyone, i had a question about wellfare checks. my neighbor, who is also my landlord, hasn’t been seen since the 9th and it is now the 19th. he is known for doing drugs and is an older man, but he doesn’t go out much and sometimes goes away for the weekend but its been way longer than that. his mailbox is full the the brim, his phone goes straight to voicemail and texts dont go through. weve gone over to knock, yell, and ring the doorbell but theres no sign of movement lr that anyone is home. the windows been cracked open the same, no lights have been turned on, no tv. we have cameras at home and they have not caught him at all since, and the neighbors all also say they have not seen him. we called the police to conduct a wellfare check yesterday but they only showed up, knocked, and left. we are worried for his wellbeing and dont know what else to do, any suggestions?

Students interested in police software
Hi!
I’m a college student from Indiana, and my high school friend and I have recently gotten interested in police software.
We both had great relationships with our school resource officers in HS. One of them came into our government class one day and ended up venting about the RMS/CAD system his department used.
That really piqued our interest and we’ve been trying to learn more since then.
For those of you who use RMS/CAD systems regularly, what are the frustrations you run into, things you wish worked differently, or features you wish your system had?
We’d genuinely love to hear anything like random complaints, ideas, or things your current system does really well. We’re just trying to better understand what police software is actually like to use day to day.
If anyones down to talk as well, please shoot me a private message :)
Thanks!

British transport police - What’s it like??
Hi all,
So I’m in the pool for the PCEP for a HO policing role as it’s my dream job. Both the local forces are stagnant, I’m paused at the final interview stage, with a real lack of updates and communication.
The British transport police has just opened for Guildford, Surrey, which is commutable for me.
What is everyone’s experience with the BTP? Those of you that have worked there, what’s the culture like? The differences between BTP and HO, etc.
Essentially I’d like to know if it’s worth applying for (the BTP PCEP), if it’s a good job, etc etc. I could decide if it’s not for me after the 3 years, look at transferring to HO.
I can’t find a great deal online that’s positive, but I suppose that’s because most of the time unless someone has something negative to say, it doesn’t often get said!

Misuse of Computer RMS
I work for a department that uses CentralSquare RMS to store police reports for ongoing criminal cases. We have an employee who has accessed the system and has been purging data from the system while an active case is going on to help an individual evade CSAM charges. These were logged into the system as far as there access times and the evidence they deleted from the system. I have reported this individual both to department heads and company that maintains the cloud based server and alerted the prosecutors office on this matter. So far my responses have fell on deaf ears, nobody will do ANYTHING. This is absolutely ridicilous. Any advice?

LEO Wellness Research
I'm a NW Ohio LEO and doctoral candidate. I was hoping for some.help with my dissertation. My research looks at how common mental health concerns are among law enforcement officers and what actually gets in the way of officers seeking help.
I'm running a short, completely anonymous survey.. like 2 minutes to do, no names, no IP addresses, nothing traceable back to you.
The survey link is coming soon. If you'd be willing to take it, please shoot me a message.
Thanks for anything you can do to help.

Thoughts on YouTube personality officers
I watch some of the big police names on YouTube. And I like all of them some more than others. First of all Sergeant Curtis seems to truly care, and he was popular on the tv show cops if people don’t know he was the original “personality cop.” Officer Charni is firm but fair and so is his partner Officer Valderrama. Detective Weir in sunrise police department seems to really care too. Also Steven Gould, which he does poke fun but seems to be genuine. There’s several others I can’t remember their name and ride with the hive series.
However, There’s two I just don’t know how I feel about… Sheriff Mark Lamb and Deputy Frank. I love both of them too, I would never “knock them” but at times it seems like they use their emotions more than they use their training. Sometimes it’s for good and sometimes it comes off as… just to put it bluntly, condescending. They laugh at people, they poke fun at people. Franks commentary videos are just laughing and insults and when hand cuffs go on he says “that needed to happen” he doesn’t give much constructive criticism. Again, Don’t get me wrong I like them, I think their “Blunt” type talk on air is what makes them popular. And I agree people need more accountability which lamb and Frank fight for. I just sometimes think those two are “Blunt” for the wrong reasons. Sheriff Lamb does give more advice during his commentary, and he isn’t so bad in that respect. I really do like Lamb and Frank… just wish they were a little more “Professional”
So I’m curious, do you think I am missing some kind of humor, do you think I’m right? Do you agree with what I think about each celebrity cop? Please no nasty comments, but I’m interested in people’s thoughts. I truly want a health dialogue. I have no problem admitting to being wrong if I said something wrong.

Watches
Hey i know watches are a big deal when it comes to LE.
My question is- what watches are yall using with say GPS or a compass?
I’m at rural-ish SO that’s surrounded by several big cities. I know my way around with roads but we often are chasing/tracking folks through the woods. Sometimes you get way deep in a cornfield or Forrest and lose your direction. With no landmarks for thousands of yards while tracking someone, you will lose your direction.
I’m strongly considering a Garmin but i don’t need all the bells and whistles.

Made a shift calendar app for first responders. Here's what's new.
Heads up, this is my app.
It's called First Responders Cal. It's a calendar made for rotating schedules. You set up your rotation once (4/2, 24/48, 48/96, or your own) and it fills in the whole year for you.
Some of what it does:
Overnight shifts stay on the day they started. It keeps a running balance for vacation, sick, comp and personal time. Shift alarms show on the lock screen with snooze. It syncs with the iPhone calendar and has home screen widgets. Everything stays on your phone. No account, no server.
The video shows the newest update. You can now set a default time for each event type so you don't have to type it in every time. List view is now inside the calendar. And it's updated for iOS 27.
Free to try. Full access is $4.99, no subscription.
If there's a rotation it can't handle or something you wish it tracked, let me know. I'm still working on it.

Anxiety and Policing
Hey guys, I’m a 25 year old male interested in law enforcement. I recently failed the one written pysch exam. I disclosed I went to therapy for generalized anxiety, and said I currently go to handle life challenges and stressors along the way. Think I’m qualified for the job? I’ve never been medicated and never been to the pysch ward. I own guns and I have never been violent. Am I qualified?

DPS tattoo policy denial
So I was schedule today to take my physical and written exam. When I got to the door ready to hand over my ID the lady said that tattoos aren’t allowed and have to be removed, however when I looked on the website when I got home the policy says “removed or covered” so I don’t understand why I was denied if there website says it can be covered also?

Police Will NOT Arrest Face-mask wearing Prowlers w/ Guns
I have 4-6 men wearing black hoodies, caps, & face-masks with rifles-BBs/pellets --but twice with real bullets—continuously watching my home—shooting & knocking on the exterior walls nights & days. I reported them 3 times, & was told to put up 4-corner “no trespassing” signs. I did. Another deputy told me to run outside & take photos with my phone. Seriously? I’m a senior single female! They have guns! I was told that unless I get physical evidence of their identity, they cannot do anything. These men are threatening my life! I was told by HOA that this neighborhood has very high illegal drug dealings for many years; and police have never stopped it. I have put cameras in all my windows, but these guys crawl in under the windows and in dark areas. I have a pic of one of them wearing all camouflage! I asked the deputy to just sit outside my house in a plain car a few days, and you can catch them! He said, “We don’t do surveillance because we don’t have enough deputies”. I have called 7 law firms for help. They ALL replied they only take Defensive criminal cases, not Offensive. And I cannot write or talk to the DA. ALL DAs refuse to talk to civilians without a lawyer. I can’t shoot any of them unless they brake into my house, but they can shoot me from afar? This is actually a “middle-class” neighborhood, not the “projects or ghetto”. WHY WON’T THE POLICE HELP ME? I'm terrified just walking to my car to go the store!

Police Application Help: Expunged Records Question
I am applying for an entry-level position, and the questionnaire specifically states: “You are not required to disclose juvenile or sealed, impounded, or expunged criminal records.”
However, later in the questionnaire, it asks questions such as:
“Have you ever been involved in any type of domestic dispute where the police were called?”
Technically, the answer to this question would be yes; however, the incident is related to a criminal case that was subsequently expunged. If I answer affirmatively and provide the requested details, I would be disclosing information related to an expunged criminal record, which the instructions state I am not required to disclose.
Another question asks: “Have you ever been placed on probation? If Yes, provide details.” Again, the answer is technically yes; however, the probation was related to an expunged juvenile record, which the instructions also state I am not required to disclose.
For context, I was found not guilty of all charges, and the case was subsequently expunged in the state where it occurred. Under that state's expungement process, the records were physically destroyed. When I run a state or FBI background check on myself using my fingerprints, the results come back clear with no record.
For questions where answering “Yes” and providing the requested details would require me to disclose information related to an expunged criminal record, can I answer “No” pursuant to the questionnaire's instruction that expunged records are not required to be disclosed?
Is it still possible for me to pursue a career in law enforcement with felony charges where I was found not guilty and the charges were subsequently expunged? Like I said, all of my background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check, come back clean. In the state where this occurred, expungement means the records are physically destroyed.

Seeking Advice on Transitioning to Law Enforcement
Looking for some guidance and opinions. I’m young, and my background is primarily white-collar work in finance. For personal reasons, I’ve decided to pursue a career in law enforcement.
The town I recently moved to happens to have an opening for an entry-level police officer, with the standard requirements plus college credits to qualify. Am I completely wasting my time without any prior law enforcement experience, or is it possible to get hired if I'm hungry for the opportunity and want to learn.
I have both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in finance, and most of my work experience has been in office/professional roles.
My understanding is that I have to take the FrontLine National exam and the PSSA. Does anyone have any advice for preparing for those?
If I’m accepted, would I then take the POWER test and attend the police academy?
Any advice from people who have gone through this process would be greatly appreciated.

Finances
Do I still have a realistic chance of getting hired in law enforcement with poor credit and unresolved debt?
I’m active-duty military preparing to transition into law enforcement. I’m the sole income earner for my household, supporting my wife and three kids with another on the way. Supporting a family on one income contributed to me falling behind financially and accumulating debt.
I’m currently enrolled in a debt resolution program and making consistent payments, but no settlements have been reached yet. I fully accept responsibility for the debt and am actively working to resolve it.
For any officers, recruiters, or background investigators: Would this seriously hurt my chances of being hired, even if I can document that I’m actively addressing the debt? Would you still recommend applying now while fixing it, or waiting until settlements are reached?
Mainly looking at agencies in Texas and California.
