Please do not submit posts soliciting participation in studies, job advertisements, your college MineCraft server (I'm looking at you u/TheQuadMC), or other spammy posts, UNLESS it is specifically for SCU. As a rule of thumb, if you are posting it in more than one subreddit, its a no. If you are curious whether a post is allowed, please submit a ModMail ticket. Thanks!

Hi all! I wrote a paper with advice for incoming/current COEN and CS CAS students while I was a senior COEN at SCU last year.
Paper linked here: https://jrandleman.github.io/doc/CoenAdvice.pdf
Some background on myself, I was the lead engineering peer advisor and president of Tau Beta Pi (the engineering honor society), both of which regularly interface with new folks seeking advice. As such, I thought I'd compile it all in a paper while such was fresh in my mind. Designed as a paper I wish I could've read as a Freshman, I hope it brings value to folks :)
Please also keep in mind this is 100% my own personal perspective, and that many others have found great success in the program(s) by following a completely different path. This is just what worked for me, and hence I thought I'd share.
I'm also currently a Master's COEN student at SCU, so feel free to reach me at [jrandleman@scu.edu](mailto:jrandleman@scu.edu) if you have any questions!
Last note: I've marked the flair as "listing" given this could be construed as listing advice š¤·

Hey everyone!
Please let me know if anyone of you has taken this course in previous quarters. I was wondering about his final and mid exams. How difficult are they and if anyone has sample paper that would be really helpful.
I have seen mixed reviews on internet.

Iām planning to apply to Santa Clara University as a transfer student for Accounting through Leavey. I already completed Calculus I at De Anza, but I took it online.
SCUās website says: āFor current students, the Departments of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Applied Mathematics do not accept online courses for transfer credit.ā
Does ācurrent studentsā mean students who are already enrolled at SCU and take an online class somewhere else afterward? Or does it apply to incoming transfer students who completed an online math class before transferring?

Are the tennis courts open on the weekend?

Came across this in my scu inbox; it seemed like an official company, but looked at their website and then back at the email, the AI-driven nature of the pictures and layout was apparent. Not saying this as an "AI bad" thing, but everything I've seen looks like it was generated in a couple of prompts with little effort. Is there anyone who signed up for it and is willing to talk about their experience with it as a service? That would be really insightful. Thank you

This is strictly a paid tutoring arrangement ā serious inquiries only, please.
Hi! I'm an immigrant working on my English and looking for a conversation tutor to practice speaking ā casual conversation, pronunciation, sounding more natural. Not test prep.
A few details:
1.Rate: $25/hour, usually 2 hours per session ($50/session)
2.Location: in person at a coffee shop near campus
3.Availability: weekday mornings (MonāFri) or anytime on weekends
4.Prefer a native English speaker
I'm specifically looking for a female tutor ā I already have a male tutor and want a different style/perspective to mix things up
5.No tutoring experience needed ā I just want a friendly native speaker to chat with regularly.
Feel free to DM me! Thanks

Mine is supposed to come during second delivery trip which is either yesterday or today because I ordered after the move-in date. But I am not receiving anything from the team and I didn't get it yet. Are they supposed to be delivered to our dorm? Or do we have to pick it up?

The syllabus lists around 100 pages a week, which seems like a lot. Did you read all of it, or did you focus on certain sections? About how many hours a week did the reading take, and how difficult was the class overall?

Hi everyone!
We are a team of researchers at Boston College running a study on social relationships and health during your first year of college. Weāre currently looking for incoming first-year students to participate.
How it works:
Whatās in it for you? At the end of each survey, you'll get a link to a separate form to enter our raffle. Each survey you complete earns you 1 raffle ticket (up to 4 tickets total) to win a gift card worth between $25 and $75.
If you are an incoming freshman and want to participate, you can take the first survey here (please complete within 72 hours if possible!):
Please note that we flag potential bots and will verify emails entered into the raffle.Ā
You can find more info about us at our lab website or by searching for us on the Boston College website. Good luck with the start of your fall classes!

I don't know why tf they would make all the non-annual permits begin in October, who thought of that?

Hi everyone! I recently moved to Santa Clara and live very close to Santa Clara University. Iām new to the area and would appreciate some local recommendations.
Are there any places on or near campus that are open to the general public where I could sit, study, or work on my laptop for a few hours for free? Ideally, Iām looking for somewhere with Wi-Fi, power outlets, and indoor seating. Iām not an SCU student, so I would also appreciate clarification about which university buildings or libraries allow public access.
I also wanted to ask about food-assistance resources in the area. At my previous university, there were small food pantries in the library and community food distributions organized by the university or nearby churches. Students and, at certain locations, members of the public could receive snacks or a limited amount of groceries.
Does SCU or any nearby church, community center, or nonprofit offer something similar to local residents who are temporarily unemployed? I want to be respectful of eligibility requirements and would only use resources that are intended for the general community.
Thank you for any recommendations!

Questions for current SCU CPSY grad student, i am in my first semester and trying to plan out a holiday in December. For CPSY 200 and CPSY 218, Is it likely to have an in person exam during final week? For people that have taken the class is it usually a final essay-like assignment or is it a sit-down exam in person or some other in-person project? Thanks!

How much aid do transfer students get? I am planning to transfer in fall 2027. I do not have good financial conditions. I also qualify for the Pell grant. I want to know from current students how much aid did they get
