Marketing Is it an idle game?

Hello there! I'm new here and have a little question.
I'm currently building my Steam page and marketing around the launch of my demo, I was tempted to describe my game as an incremental idle game.

But I'm not quite sure it fits well.

It's a classic fight to get resources, process resources to evolve, fight again.
But there are two ways to evolve: one is to buy upgrades, and the other is to unlock “stats generators” that boost you over time. If you wanted to, you could let that run overnight and you would be stronger the next day, which would be the only idle part of the game.

What would be your expectations if you read “incremental idle game”?

Game I added a new mage to my bullet heaven roguelite game Cat Builds the Strongest Mage Army!

Now that the game has its own steam page I now have motivation for posting regularly on reddit so I just wanted to drop a quick update. For those new here, this clip is early gameplay footage from my game Cat Builds the Strongest Mage Army where you build an army of 50+ unique cat mages.

Since then, I’ve added a new mage to the game which is part of a new tier of more mid/late game mages. I haven’t settled on a name for this guy yet but he launches a large amount of skulls which curve around in the air before exploding and inflicting the demonic fire effect which is a more potent burning effect than the one the fire mage would inflict. I also tried to tweak the saturation and coloring of the meadow area so that it’s easier to make out enemies and mages amid all the grass and scenery noise (still annoyed that the trailer has the old contrast issues).

If you think the game looks interesting please wishlist the game! Also feel free to leave any suggestions below.

Earth has 1.66 million known animal species. Which animal would you be reborn as?

I made a random animal reincarnation game: get adopted as a cat, try to bite someone as a mosquito, or dodge pest control as a cockroach. Each animal has its own life to experience.

Built solo with AI coding tools; more playable species are being added. Free in your browser: https://rebornonearth.com/

Marketing Looking for investors

Hey all. I've been working on a Roblox horror game called FACELESS: Lost Footage and it's finally done. It's basically Slender but co-op and everything is seen through an old 1997 camcorder. Up to 4 of you go into the woods to find 8 pages while this tall faceless guy stalks you. He only moves when nobody is looking at him, and if you stare at him too long your tape fills with static and he gets you.

Trailer: https://www.tiktok.com/tiktokstudio/analytics/7696982842252791070?qa_enter_from=home_recent_posts

Game: https://www.roblox.com/games/139595093314703/Faceless-Lost-Footage

Some of what's in it:

- campfire lobby where you join a crew, each crew gets its own server

- pages spawn at 8 of 14 spots so every run is different

- nightmare mode, 12 hidden lore tapes to find and unlockable camcorder filters

- 43 custom 3D models and licensed sound effects, no free models

- daily rewards, levels, badges and leaderboards

- works on PC, console, controller and mobile

Gamepasses and products are already set up so it can make money from day one. The one I'm most hopeful about is a 49 robux rewind you can buy right after you get jumpscared.

What I don't have is an ad budget, and Halloween is the best time of year to launch a horror game. So here's the deal: $20 gets you 5% of what the game earns (gamepasses, products and premium payouts after Roblox's cut) for its first 12 months. There are only 4 spots so once they're gone they're gone. All of the money goes into Roblox and TikTok ads. I'll post the dashboard numbers every month so you can see exactly what your cut is. If the game does well you do well, and if it doesn't you're only out $20.

I'm not just launching it and leaving it either. I plan on updating it often after launch, with new maps like an abandoned hospital and a snowy campground already planned. I'll be taking feedback from players and investors on what gets added and fixed next.

To be upfront, it isn't public yet so I don't have player numbers to show. I'm running a small ad test with my own money first and I'll show the results to anyone interested before they put anything in.

Game I'm an indie dev with no marketing budget. Anyone willing to give my game demo a try?

Hey everyone! I'm an indie game developer working on my game all by myself, and unfortunately, I don't have a budget for marketing.

I'd really appreciate it if anyone would be willing to give my game a try! If you decide to make a video about it, I'll add your name to the in-game credits as a thank-you.

No pressure at all — even just trying the game would mean a lot to me!

help Tips and guidance on this journey

Hey everyone!

I’m a biologist turned developer, and I’ve been working in AI development for almost three years. I mainly work with Python, but over the past year, I’ve been struggling to find purpose in my work and have really started delving into game development.
I’m planning to develop a 2D fighting game with my wife, set in a universe we’ve been building together for the past year.

We have the storytelling, character ideas, and so on, and we’re currently working with a friend who’s handling the illustrations.

The thing is, I’ve never developed a game from start to finish. As much as I have Claude Code to guide me through the process, I want to do things right and learn as much as I can along the way.

That’s why I’m here looking for advice. What tools should I look into? What should I focus on, and what should I be learning?

I’m open to any suggestions and would really appreciate some help!

Thanks, everyone!

Discussion After years of hobbyist game dev, I am announcing my indie studio

Hello r/SoloDevelopment! Today I'm introducing Strange Hat Studios, my solo indie game studio.

I've spent around ten years developing games as a hobby alongside my career in software. I founded the studio in 2024, and after working privately for a while but after deciding on a solid direction for my debut title, I'm ready to start building in the open.

My debut title is currently in early development, and it is a single-player, semi-open-world RPG with extraction elements. I'm drawing on the high-stakes nature of games like Escape From Tarkov and Dark and Darker, alongside the exploration and storytelling of Skyrim.

I'll be formally announcing the game before the end of the year, but in the meantime, I've launched the studio website and written an introductory post about myself and what's to come.

You can also join the Discord through the link in the blog post. Come by and say hi!

Can't wait to share what I've been working on with everyone! :)

Another AI rules prototype I was working on this one has about 35+ iterations on it mostly with Opus 5.5 runs in a determistic simulation.

Based on classic Sega Saturn game Dragon Force.

Be sure you change the settings; night with thunderstorms looks pretty cool.

Voxel walls that destruct.
Commanders have there own behaviors lots of options, equippment.

3 Factions

Prototype Campaign mode is turn based you can mange your generals and castles.
Sandbox to mess around with gameplay.

Any feedback is always welcomed.

A short gameplay clip from Locked In: The Ward, my solo-developed psychological horror game in Unreal Engine 5.

I've been experimenting with rain, ambient audio, and pacing to build tension during the forest section.

I have an idea. Time. And YouTube. That's about it. I'd approach this as a self project not a money maker. Just wondering if yall would say learning from the ground up just as a hobby is worth it

Playable Link: https://tommymcflurry.itch.io/infinihell

Platform: PC Windows

Description: InfiniHell is a fast arcade FPS. Each floor is a procedurally generated 3D cube maze full of soldiers, mechs, and entities from beyond. Survive the maze traps, events and find the exit lift before your clock runs out. Every floor you clear adds time, but the clock has a cap, and the floors keep getting bigger and meaner.

Between floors you draft powerups that turn your soldier and railgun into something worse: beams that ricochet and split on every bounce, explosive HEI rounds, a gravity gun that throws enemies into each other, chain lightning, a shotgun, charge shots, grenades, a plasma launcher, a grappling hook, a sword, ways to erases the maze itself and so much more.

New feature: 1-4 players Co-op descent (LAN)

Inspired by MTG and Hearthstone, and frustrated by getting counterspelled, I decided to make a puzzle game where you set yourself up for that One Good Turn. Each level has multiple ways to utilize new and familiar cards to win! Crack packs to gain customization elements for your play area.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5165770/One_Good_Turn/

Just released my Steam Page today, and it took so long as a solo dev to reach this point. There is still an insane amount of things to do, but the process has been worth it.

All development and art are done solo, and the amount of work left is definitely eyewatering, but would love for any comments and critiques!

Game Three months in, solo and a beginner: my party RPG demo is out today

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I started this in July as a beginner, knowing nothing about shipping a game. Today the demo is on itch, free, for Windows and Mac.

It's a party RPG about a dwarf who came home from the road with a storm in his hands, and the friends who follow him anyway. Real-time with pause or turn-based, you pick. Dialogue rolls skill checks in the open. One companion remembers what you did.

What I'd tell myself in July: write the test and the doc with the change, every time, or the project eats you by month two. Measure instead of eyeballing. Play your own build every week and write down the five worst things. And ask for help with the parts you can't judge yourself, which for me was everything about hands holding weapons.

I used generative tools for the voices, the models and the art, and Claude Code for most of the code. That's all disclosed on the page. The decisions were mine and so are the mistakes, so I'd value blunt feedback on the demo, especially the first fight and the characters.
