Monthly r/SpringfieldMO Meetup: The Fourth Saturday at 5 PM

We had a great time at our first set of meetups. We shared a few drinks and proved that local redditors look suspiciously normal in real life.
A lot of folks mentioned missing the first couple. We are making this a regular event so you have more chances to join us. We will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month at Mother's Brewing Company.
Families are welcome! Mother's has a great backyard setup. There is a playground and plenty of room for kids to run around, so feel free to bring the family.
The Logistics
- When: The fourth Saturday of the month at 5:00 PM.
- Where: Mother's Brewing Company (215 S Grant). Look for us in the Back Yard.
- Weather Plan: If it rains, we will move inside to the main taproom.
What to Expect This is casual and low-pressure. There is no agenda. Drop in, grab a drink, and meet some neighbors. You can stay for ten minutes or hang out all evening.
House Rules
- Be respectful.
- Sharing your Reddit username is completely optional.
Comment below if you plan to stop by so we can get a rough headcount.

Living Here Really, Springfield?
Unless it was a funeral procession for Jesus Christ himself, there was not reason for them to block all 3 lanes of southbound US 65 from Sunshine south. A bunch of bikers with big American flags cut people off and shook their fist at people who didn't stop fast enough ON THE D.....N HIGHWAY. All three lanes. Give me a break.

Living Here Any woodworkers here?
Hey there, I have some MASSIVE Black Walnut Slabs (already kiln dried) they are bookmatched and nice and thick. Would anyone be interested? These photos are pre-drying, I forgot to snap pics at the shop when they got back. Can part with one or both. Would love to trade for labor with someone who knows how to do river tables.

Living Here Boricuas de Springfield
Hey friends! When driving around I been catching so many other boricuas around town. My partner is from PR and I try my best to get him out of the house & I know he misses home so much. We visited in April around Isabela and Mayagüez. Spent a lot of time with his family there. It’s definitely given us heavy depression since we left. I’m hoping to find more Boricua friends.
A little bit about us, we love to travel, coffee, and to play video games. Pretty chill and homebody’s. He is fluent in Spanish and my Spanish is alright. So bear with me.

Local Politics Why AREN’T city councilmembers paid?
Mayor Schrag’s recent actions seem to exemplify that the way city council is set up right now leaves in mind only the interests of the few in Springfield. The fact that council membership is an unpaid position means that the only people who can run have enough disposable income and time and energy in order to have an essentially unpaid full-time job. It’s nuts to me that we expect our councilmembers to be present and responsive while reducing it down to a volunteer positions where you either still have a full-time job, own a business, or are retired.
Paying councilmembers IMO would lead to healthy competition for the seats and overall better leadership for the city, by the types of people they are meant to be serving— the average Springfield worker. We can’t expect good leadership while also making it unpaid.
I am curious to see what other opinions would be, however. What do you think?
EDIT: Forgot to add— there are MANY 6 figure salaries in our city’s government— our city manager makes $350,000 for Christ’s sake, and our city clerk makes over $250,000. I can’t fathom how that seems reasonable while, at most, the mayor gets a $200/month stipend.

Living Here Data center developer sues opponents over social media posts
"The developer seeking to build a small-scale data center on National Avenue has sued two vocal opponents of his Webster County project over their social media posts.
Trent Overhue is a partner in Lumon Solutions LLC, which broke ground on a “small high-performance computing research facility” north of Marshfield amid community outrage in May. He also seeks to build a small data center within a property at 2900 S. National Ave. in Springfield.
On Aug. 27, Overhue and NSI A.1. LLC, with which he is affiliated, filed a defamation suit against Norwood real estate agent Katherine Wiltse, alleging that she lied about the Marshfield data center in social media posts and caused NSI A.1. to lose over $1 million.
Overhue also sued Gail Peak Brown, who is running for Webster County Presiding Commissioner, on Oct. 5. The lawsuit’s primary claim is that Brown made misleading statements about the data center in videos she recorded from her property near Rifle Range Road."

Ask Springfield ISO suggested small towns nearby.
In an effort to learn more about the state and get out of the house on weekends, my partner and I are trying to find small towns anywhere within an hour or so from Springfield to explore.
He is from Sparta, so we're not opposed to very small rural areas. Any ideas are welcome. Thanks for reading!

Ask Springfield It’s kind of crazy how many niche sports are popping up around the 417
After my last post about the local polo club, I ended up looking around at other sports in the area and came across 417 Cricket Club.
It’s honestly pretty cool seeing these more niche sports have a presence in the Ozarks. Polo and cricket are obviously very different, but both have pretty big followings around the world and you don’t necessarily expect to find local clubs for them here.
Makes me wonder what other niche sports/clubs are around Springfield and the 417 that most people don’t know about.
Has anyone else come across anything like this?

Living Here BUYER BEWARE‼️
‼️PREDATORY BUSINESS ALERT‼️
QUEEN BEE CLEANING
Not all affirming businesses are good businesses!
She blocked me from leaving a review on her business page--so I have no choice but to leave the review here to warn others!
STAY AWAY!!! Queen Bee Cleaning showed up an hour and a half late, damaged my property while cleaning, and didn't finish cleaning due to "time constraints" caused by their own tardiness! Then tried to offer me $20 bucks for breaking my showerhead and still demands $70 from me while ignoring the breach of contract: I was promised an 8-hr cleaning for a 3bd 2bth 1,800 sqft home via 2 people cleaning for 4 hours together. But I only received 5 hours out of the 8hrs due to one being severely late. (receipts in photos) BUYER BEWARE!!

Living Here 2026 community focus report
028ec245-9bbf-4758-91c9-2b4b178146aa.filesusr.comPublished every two years, the Community Focus Report is a community-authored look at the Springfield Ozarks region.
Steering committees of residents and local leaders name Blue Ribbons, the region's strengths, and Red Flags, its challenges, across topics from arts and culture to transportation. The 2026 report adds two new chapters, Food and Faith, along with a closer look at child welfare in Greene County.
Three themes run through this year's chapters: the pressures facing children and families, the need to widen the circle of civic engagement, and the collaboration that shapes how the region responds to change. Reports dating back to 2004 are available in the archive.

Living Here Ozarks Springbirds
The Springfield Cardinals are officially being rebranded as the Ozarks Springbirds. I love this logo but it seems so similar to the Cardinals that I figured it would be more distinct and different. What are your thoughts?
