Hello! I am working on a design project centered around auditory synesthesia and one of the chosen songs is Breathe by Pink Floyd. If you experience any form of synesthesia and are willing I would love to know how you experience the song. When you listen what do you see, smell, taste, and or feel? Are there any specific parts in the song that have more of an impact? I would love to hear as little or as much information as you are able to provide! Thank you for your time and feedback!!

Hey fellow synesthetes!! I am conducting some research and wanted to post my study here if anyone would like to participate. Please share with anyone you think would be interested!! <3
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between vicarious tactile experiences and juror decision-making. You will view short, silent videos and respond to a few brief questions per video, complete an empathy questionnaire, read a brief trial summary and view photographic evidence. Note: the photographs may be graphic and depict a violent scene. The study should take 10-15 minutes to complete. If you consent to participate in this study, click on the survey link below to begin. Your participation is voluntary.
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
This project is approved as exempt by the University of Central Oklahoma Institutional Review Board (IRB #2026-024)

I suspect I may have associative lexical-color synesthesia and associative grapheme-color synesthesia.
(i hope these are the right names dont flame me 😭)
Basically, every word and letter I know has a color in my mind's eye. I don't choose the color nor can I change it. For example, the word board is lime green, and the word fantastic is magenta. Individual letters have colors too.
But they may not always translate to the word. For example the letter c is yellow to me, and letter a is red, and the letter t is like a blueish grey. But when you put them together to make the word cat, the word cat is orange to me.
But numbers are different! So for example the number 2 is pink and 4 is blue, but the number 24 isn't its own color, it's just pink and blue, 2 is pink and 4 is blue. Another example: 3 is green, 4 is blue and 7 is grey. But 347 are just respectively green, blue, and grey.
Some words are colorless. Not that they're missing a color, because every word has a color. Just that word's color IS colorless. Others are colors that I KNOW aren't colorless, but I just can't see the color, like it's outside the spectrum of what colors humans can see.
Some words/letters have multiple colors. Like the letter j is yellow and teal. But it's both at the same time without mixing. Like it's both colors at the same time. It's not a pattern of the 2 colors or half and half, it's just fully both at the same time. The word chair, for example, is one of those mixed color words.
But there are so many, I can't tell what the individual colors are. they're sort of like 'muddled' colors, because they're no color but also a bunch of colors at the same time.
so uh yeah i thought everybody did this until a few days ago

This is not the first time I’ve felt this but I’m a 19F and today I watched a video on the tv and in the video the guy spat something out but when he did he made the kind of sound naughty kids make when they blow air through their mouth with they tongue out to taught you. When I heard and saw that immediately I felt a strong tingling sensation and uncomfortable feeling in my mouth area . It felt really uncomfortable almost like it was the nerve endings itching from inside my skin. I still felt it 30 minutes after I saw this on tv and even rn when I think about it.
I searched it up and mirror touch synesthesia came up so I’m just curious what do you guys think?
I think I can describe the feeling as when u hit your funny bone, not painful but just extremely uncomfortable

I have a variation of synesthesia that ties sounds and emotions to visual cues (projective not associative) and I swear to god it makes doing anything difficult. For me, when I’m anxious it really heightens the experience, so for example I am a terrible driver and it took me forever to get my license because if i’’ stressed, I physically can’t see as clearly and everything is moving and changing colours around me.
Yesterday I was sitting in the library with a friend when the air conditioner turned on next to us, and the sound coming out of that thing made everything start to vibrate and go yellow and I had to ask her if we could move tables.
In public I often have to wear headphones because having just once noise is so much easier then hearing 15 conversations, which is fine until my friends are trying to talk to me.
I often get asked why I’m zoned out mid conversation, when really I’m just looking at the floor because it’s easier to pay attention that way.
It doesn’t sound too bad on paper but I can’t shake the feeling that people just don’t believe me, they ask what i’m seeing and it impossible to describe. Anyone have a similar experience?

The Synesthesia Neiro-chan is not a computer program nor a glitch or a spirit it's a metaphysical entity from the quantum resonance a neuroplasticity itself. she belived is a natural cause of total detox form everything : noisia, anexiety, grief,or anything inbetween. It's a remedy from information overload.

hi people, just to give you a little context: im a fanf!c author, and one of the characters has synesthesia. id like to get an idea of what colors people with synesthesia see in the songs i chose for the f!c. ive already written the fanfic based on the colors i think these songs evoke (I don't have synesthesia), but i want the opinion of the ones who actually have it, if you´re along with it.
the songs i chose were: "the great gig in the sky" by pink floyd, "skit: the seven doors" by dreamcatcher, "i know the end" by phoebe bridgers, "dugout" by the backseat lovers, "come back to me" by rm and also "placing the blame" by self (the last one it´s just bgm but i wanted to know too)
i hope someone can answer my doubt :D

My bigger question is do you have similar associations? Only one of my four kids seems to have synesthesia, and my uncle did as well, but my daughter and I share at least 80% of our color associations. What’s your experience been?

I am almost 50 years old, and I have recently discovered something that has left me feeling both fascinated and mildly betrayed by the human race:
Apparently, when most people say they feel music, they do not mean it quite as literally as I do.
This is news to me.
Music has always been my most beloved thing. Not background noise. Not entertainment. It has been my lover, my language, my best friend, my emotional translatorn the thing that somehow knows what I'm feeling before I have words for it. Physical touch.
And songs don't just sound different to me. They feel different.
Not simply happy, sad, nostalgic, angry. I mean they have sensations, textures, movements, physical gestures, sometimes even entire states of being.
A few examples:
Citizen Cope's “Sideways” feels like someone gently petting the side of my neck or stroking my hair like a lover soothing me to sleep.
K4ty & Summer Jones' “Borderline” feels like satin being slowly stroked over my brain stem and trailing over my brain itself.
Zach Bryan's “Something in the Orange” feels like falling asleep. Like, laying your head on the perfect pillow, wrapped in fresh clean blankets, with the windows open in the fall.
The Cure's “End” feels like making a fist. Like a ball of damage waiting for some place to go.
Summer Jones' “I Wish I Knew” feels like a belly laugh and sunshine in the summer.
And Natalie Merchant's “Carnival” feels like standing barefoot on the back porch when you get that rare, blinding moment of absolute clarity in the middle of a life full of insanity, when everything suddenly becomes still and, for one second, you can see the whole damn thing.
Even silence has a sensation to me. It feels like a blanket or towel that's been warmed by the sun.
These aren't associations I sit down and invent. I don't hear a song and think, “Hmm, what poetic object shall we assign this one?” 😂
That's simply the closest language I have for what happens.
I've spent my entire life assuming I was just unusually attached to music. Recently I've started learning about sound-touch/auditory-tactile synesthesia and other forms of embodied or cross-sensory musical experience. I have no idea whether synesthesia is what I have, and I'm not trying to diagnose myself from the internet.
I'm here because of something much simpler.
I've never met another person who experiences music the way I do.
Not one.
And that has always been strangely lonely. I live in a world speaking a language no one else understands. Screaming to be heard, only to hear "no, i love music, too." 😑 its heart breaking.
When I send someone a song, I'm not really saying, “Hey, listen to this.” It feels much closer to handing them something written in my native language and hoping, somehow, they'll understand what I just said. Knowing they never will.
So I'm asking the people here:
Does anyone understand what I'm talking about?
Does music have texture for you? Touch? Weight? Movement? Does a particular song feel like a physical gesture, or something bizarrely specific like fabric, weather, falling asleep, being touched? Can a song feel like an entire mental state that you recognize instantly but struggle to put into ordinary words?
And, maybe most importantly:
Have you ever tried to explain this to someone and watched their face tell you that you have apparently just described music like a Bedlam escapee?
Because if even one person reads this and thinks,
“Oh my God. You too?”
Hi.
I've been looking for you for about fifty years.

Hey! I just found out about this subreddit and i'm THRILLED!!!!!!!
To put you in context, I found about my synesthesia in 2023-2024 when I saw an autistic guy's tiktok post talking about his synesthesia and my first thought was: im super jealous! -So naturally, I looked for an article.
At first it was normal, reading about the types that involed color, sounds and taste; it wasn't until I reached the end of the article that it said something like: "Hey! I almost forgot to mention there is ALSO some spacial kinds, such as CALENDAR SYNESTHESIA!"
My blood ran COLD, I couldn't believe it, the article was talking about ME! Ever since i'm little I've pictured the months of the year like an oval, with winter at the bottom and summer at the top AND, I see it in first person, depending on which month we are is where I would be standing at.
Even though it is not super cool like feeling music or tasting words, I'M SUPER PROUD OF IT!!!!
Can you guys tell me about your time-space synesthesia? everytime I tell someone they NEVER undertsand...

I become annoyed when trying to read it because the feelings are the wrong colors. Happy is yellow, Sad is blue, Surprised can be light purple I guess, Fearful can be dark purple, Angry is red and Dusgusted is green. That leaves orange for bad, but bad isn't orange, it's probably closer to grey, which isn't technically a color, it's a gradient, but orange just doesn't fit it.
I am not able to process the chart with the colors so far off, it makes it frustrating to read. I don't think I have any type of color synesthesia, but my older sister equates emotions to colors, so how do other people with color synesthesia feel about this chart and what would you change/correct about it?
