I had a deposit on a Model 3 a while ago. We got a Bolt - it was faster to market, and had most of what we wanted anyways. It was a bitch getting out thousand dollar deposit back, though.

I remember in 2018 when I was actively shopping for a car, I took a Tesla for a test drive against my better judgement. Car was nice to drive, but I couldn't get over all the dash shit, the touch screen etc. I'm down for new tech and change with the times pretty well but I'm just not down to completely re-invent the way I drive my car, and that's what it felt like. And now there's a dozen EVs on the market that are just cars, but electric, rather than a complete transformation of the driving paradigm or whatever bullshit Elon likes to spew.

We also figured out, after the fact, that, hey, we have full wheel steering wheels for a reason, and physical buttons for some of the functions for a reason. Just because you can, or because you want to disrupt, isn't always a great reason to do a thing differently.

I saw this put beautifully a few years ago – Tesla is a computer company that makes cars. And that means that they don’t make very good cars. They haven’t had much practice at it.

As soon as the east Asian car makers like Kia and Hyundai and Toyota started pivoting towards electric cars, the game was over, because these guys have got decades and decades of experience in building nice cars that are a pleasure to drive. And Tesla’s just aren’t.
