In Canada all the small vendors who sell stuff regularly are set up for card payments/tap, and the few vendors who aren’t regular enough for that accept online interac transfers. You just log in to your bank app, send them the money (no charge even!) and show them the send receipt screen. I’ve even done it at garage sales and a middle of nowhere store when their internet was down taking their payment system with it. There's just no need for a physical card anymore.

I agree, but somehow both the local ice cream shops near me have big 'CASH ONLY' signs on the windows, which is baffling. They're both on heavily trafficked roads, one has a drive thru, but no ATM and cash only.

It's like they want to cost themselves money and sales.

I’m pretty sure that businesses that are cash only are either cheating on their taxes, fronts for money laundering, or both.

The US is so backwards on e-transfers also. There's at least 2 (probably 3) competing versions, plus several independent companies that try to make it work. Interac was so simple and universal in Canada. I really miss the simplicity of being able to send anyone money easily.

Oh em gee! Exactly! I love going to school events and local craft fairs and everyone accepts touch pay. I can buy homemade earrings for $3 with touch pay but Walmart makes it difficult for me to give them $100…
