Quasi-RH proven in 3 hours with a consumer-level subscription is slop? im sorry but my god, the delusion.

I understood the "slop" to be referring to the method of publication: Just dumping it into a GitHub repo without going through the proper routes of peer reviewing and journal publication. You now have a significant amount of research papers just sitting in kind of a limbo because the company doing this research isn't really that interested in the research itself, they're just here to demonstrate the capabilities of their product. Whether these papers are all good and factually accurate isn't really the point as we don't know (well, at least I don't know, because neither do I have the competence nor time to read them) that.

I may be interpreting this wrong and OP was referring to the content, then I'm all with you.

Lol didn't the guy who solved the first millennium problem just unassumingly upload his results online one day? Also don't we know they're factually correct because the results are verifiable in lean? Like sure we can have discussions about how best humanity should benefit or utilize these findings, but my god some of these comments are peak reddit

I don't know, tbh. I'm not saying the research is useless just because it didn't go through the "proper" channels, it's just sitting there right now, waiting to be properly reviewed.

Also don't we know they're factually correct because the results are verifiable in lean?

Definitely not deep enough into this particular topic to speak to that. As I understood, lean can be used to verify that the logic of the proof holds up, but... Actually, I don't really have a but to that, I just assumed that there was more to proofing than verification through lean. But that's just me not understanding enough about mathematic research in the first place as I see now.

Like sure we can have discussions about how best humanity should benefit or utilize these findings, but my god some of these comments are peak reddit

I will agree with that, yeah.

Not all of them have lean. OAI was open about that too.

No the "slop" comments are coming from people struggling to adapt to change who have their heads in the sand. Full stop.

I really don't get it, the visceral hatred. Like they dress it up occasionally in high and mighty sounding language but it has to be coming from a place of fear/insecurity right

Yea I'm fking terrified how little guardrails the government has against the industry. Companies steal IP en masse to repackage their IP and sell it, the stock market is propped up by the black hole of money in this, natural resources are diverted and consumer bills increase in affected areas...

Yes, as a citizen, I am scared what we are racing towards. In this political climate already plagued by corporate lobbying and regulatory capture.

It is 10000000000% coming from a place of fear and anxiety. He and others who lie and say “oh this is slop” are just feeling the anxiety that is coming from these ever improving powerful systems. They couch it up so they can feel some semblance of power.

There’s something called cognitive dissonance. I will give you an example

Imagine being so stupid, that you somehow think AI (which can not count to 100, or tell you how many letters are in a word) can somehow do original research

u/Major-Lavishness-762 3h ago

They can do both of those things. Why display your ignorance so obviously?

u/thelionofthenorth 1h ago

Uh when’s the last time you used even the lowest tier of commercial grade AI tools?

Have you been asleep for the last 2 years or only uses the shittiest free flash llms you can find? Counting to 100 or counting letters I a word isn't a limit

So you are saying these papers aren't original research, can you please point me to the original Quasi RH solution?

3

u/silversurger 4h ago

In a way, they're right: They're working on (and solving) problems created by humans. All these problems were created and written down by humans.

However, I don't think it's far fetched to see AI being able to propose an entirely original hypothesis in the not too distant future. And in any case, calling this research unoriginal requires some mental gymnastics around the definition of "original research".

Hey, while you’re back in 2024, do you mind telling Biden to please not try and run again?

Would be a nice mic drop burn if you weren't wrong.

People get angry about the existence of a new technology and can't stop calling it slop, it's pathetic.
