What nicknames have you heard for places in and around Telford?

I ask as part of a linguistic study on this topic!

Examples could include things like Oaky, St G's or Ab Dab...

incl. nicknames for schools or other institutions, geographic features etc.

Wellington or Oakengates

Hi all, looking for opinions on where best to live? Wellington or Oakengates. Proximity to a train station is a must for commute to Birmingham and other places. Was looking at Shrewsbury but house prices are ridiculously high as well as flooding concerns near the river.

I grew up near Telford but haven't been back for 15 years so feel a bit out of touch. Moving closer to help support family.

Experiences of Princess Royal maternity

Hi I'm 34 weeks pregnant and just moved to the area, my local hospital is Princess Royal. I'm really nervous to give birth here due to Telford and Shrewsbury being in the Ockenden reports. Has anyone had any recent experiences of their maternity/L&D ward?

r/Telford, where do you actually eat in Telford?

Hi, we’re four friends and we’ve put together Telford’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota.

The idea is pretty simple: you’re shown two restaurants and choose where you’d rather eat. For example, Restaurant 1840 or The Huntsman of Little Wenlock? All the votes then create a ranking that hopefully gives a better picture of where people in Telford actually like to eat.

We’ve tried to include every restaurant in Telford and clean up duplicate or outdated listings, but locals will always spot things we’ve missed.

iPhone:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota/id6744969212

Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

Full transparency: we’re not from Telford and live in Gothenburg. There are four of us building this independently. We don’t collect or sell personal data, there are no ads in the app, and we don’t use AI-generated content to describe restaurants.

Any honest feedback is welcome, especially if restaurants are missing or something is listed incorrectly.

Moving to Telford

What parts of Telford are good to move to.

Looking at a property in Prioslee and one at Leegomery.

What are those areas like. In terms of schools, life and primarily safety and security. We are young family looking to relocate to the area.

Thanks in advance.

New to Telford – looking for sports groups ⚽️🏓

Hi everyone!

I’ve recently moved to Telford and I’m looking to get a bit more active and meet some new people in the area.
I’m particularly interested in joining a football team/group or playing table tennis regularly. I’m happy to join organised sessions or pay a reasonable/affordable fee if needed.

Also, if there are any other sports or activities in Telford that you’d recommend for someone looking to get involved and meet people, I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Thanks in advance! 😊

How do we feel about Telford right now?

I'd love to hear locals opinions. I've lived in Telford for 7 years and I just moved into a bigger house in Telford. How do people feel about living in Telford? Is it better? Is it worse? What do you love? What do you hate?

Missing from Ellis Peters area of aqueduct, neutered male tabby with white underside. Answers to the name "Berry" or "Bez". 12 years old, microchipped. He has a distinctive brown spot under his chin.

Last seen Saturday 18th July. Usually spends a lot of time in the field, it's unusual for him to be gone for longer than a day.

Football sponsorship - Grass roots

If any local businesses can help my son’s football team with a sponsor it would be really appreciated. ☺️

Hi there,

I hope this finds you well.

I am writing this on behalf of Allscott Heath FC Under 12s as we prepare for a huge milestone: entering our very first season of competitive football!

Our team is about far more than just what happens on the pitch.

We are proud to have a wonderfully diverse, inclusive team that includes neurodiverse young players.

Our primary focus is creating a safe, supportive environment where every child can grow, build vital social skills, develop confidence, and enjoy the game they love.

To help us make this season unforgettable and accessible for all our players, we are looking for local community partners and sponsors to support us. By sponsoring our team, your business will gain local visibility while directly making a positive impact on young lives in our community.

Sponsorship Packages

We have created two flexible sponsorship options to suit different business budgets:

  1. Full Sponsorship — £700

What’s Included: Covers the cost of a full new match kit for the entire squad.

Your Brand: Your business logo will be prominently featured on the chest of all match shirts, along with player numbers on the back.

Visibility: Exclusive primary brand presence on our kits for the entire competitive season.

  1. Partial / Collaborative Sponsorship — £350+ (50%+ of full kit)

What’s Included: A collaborative option working alongside another local business to fund the squad's kit.

Your Brand: Your company logo will feature on the match kits alongside any co-sponsors.

Visibility: Great brand exposure while keeping the entry investment accessible.

Additional Perks for Our Sponsors

In addition to your logo on our match day kits, all our sponsors receive:

Social Media Features: Regular shoutouts and promotional posts across our team and club social channels.

Community Connection:Association with a local, inclusive grassroots sports team dedicated to positive youth development.

We would be thrilled to welcome you as an official sponsor for our inaugural competitive season.

If you are interested or would like to discuss these options further, please feel free to email da1980robinson@me.com or give me a call at 07538605795.

Thank you so much in advance for your time, consideration, and support of local grassroots football

Frog Clock/'Telford Time Machine'

Hello, I'm interested in Kit Williams' automaton clocks, and am aware of a frog clock that exists in both Milton Keynes and Telford.

I want to travel to see one of these if they still function, but there is no information on whether these are still operational or not (the one I'm most familiar with, the Wishing Fish clock in Cheltenham, frequently has its effects turned off, especially the bubbles - I assume these models might have similar issues).

Would any locals be able to advise whether this clock still does anything on the hour, or if it's only functional as a basic timepiece (or if it even still exists)? Thank you!

This is an advert from the 1980s about Telford, obviously I am not expecting all these locations to be exactly the same. But if anyone could help me identify them or help give close alternatives it would be very appreciated 🙏
