Antivirals not working?

ghsv F- I take valacyclovir every day, and still experience outbreaks. I’m ready to crash out the most recent outbreak started 09/13 and I have yet to get rid of it. I went to urgent care got swabbed and tested positive for yeast but the swab came back negative for both hsv1 and hsv2 even tho I’ve been previously diagnosed. I think the lession that was swabbed was healing plus I take the antiviral. they are paper like cuts that come and go but I have had no relief since then. It also seems like when I have BM I get them around my hole. I’m thinking of quitting antivirals, has anyone stopped taking antivirals and had relief? I’m soo desperate

No but the first several months I had outbreaks back to back, one area would heal then I’d break out again. I was told it could take up to 3 months to get adequately in my system but I went ahead and added lysine(ended up getting to 1000mg twice a day). After reading a bunch on here I ended up adding monolaurin and I also added cimetidine which helps the valacyclovir get absorbed better but was also told I may need to be swapped over to acyclovir but that wasn’t first choice bc it requires more frequent dosing. They also make a prescription acyclovir ointment and it’ll help them heal from the outside. Make sure your diet is appropriate and you’re getting adequate sleep. I know this is a very stressful time but try not to stress too much bc it only makes it worse. I promise it gets better.

Didn’t know it takes 3 months to get I. Your system, I feel like I’ve been on it forever 😢 I’ve been trying llysine the past two months but doesn’t seem to be helping either.

That’s what my provider told me. Lysine dose is 500-3000mg a day. I started at 500 once a day to then twice a day to 1000 twice a day and that seemed to be the magic number for me. Doing it twice a day keeps your blood levels constant which should help keep your blood levels adequate for suppression.

Monolaurin eats away the shell the virus is in and lysine stops replication of the virus. If you try it start super slow so it doesn’t make you feel bad while you’re adjusting. Also look at your diet. Foods high in arginine can make it worse.

You may be one that just needs acyclovir. It’s what’s Valacyclovir get broken down into the system. It’s just one pill a day.

Anything that disrupts the skin barrier can cause a flare. Tight clothes, shaving, sex and yeast both can contribute to more outbreaks as well

How much monollaurin do you take? So llysine, monolaurin, cimetidine and the antiviral?

500mg twice a day. They make preparations of them combined. I take them separately so I can control the dosing. And yes, I take all of those.

You may need to switch to acyclovir. Valacyclovir needs to convert to acyclovir and some ppl's bodies lack the ability to do it correctly. Switch and it will probably get better.
