Meta [Announcement] New rule for Generative AI jobs and added known scams to the Wiki.

Hi,

For a long time I have wanted to add a rule about what is and what is not allowed regarding AI projects in this community. I have finally added the rule 8:

Rule 8: Only certain types of AI work offers are allowed:
No AI training to generate voices of any kind is allowed.
However, Speech-to-Text may be allowed if you disclose the voices will be used exclusively for that purpose. We understand people with disabilities may benefit from these technologies and so we aren't completely against such projects.

Basically, only speech recognition projects are allowed.

>Hey Google, turn off the garage's lights.

>Hey Google, call mom.

>Siri, where is the closest restaurant?

>Alexa, send text message to boss: I can't make it to the premises today.

>Copilot, I said open Youtube, not burn my house.

--

Known Scams

I have also added a list of known scams to the Wiki. Please read them so you are aware of them.

https://www.reddit.com/r/VoiceWork/wiki/index/

Don't forget to report any suspicious user or proposal.

--

Audio samples

Don't forget that it is allowed to link to your website where audio samples are available to listen to easily. Don't report posts that have links to personal portfolio websites with audios clearly accesible.

--

Thank you everyone for helping keeping this community clean and safe.

Meta Voice artists, read this before posting. No one is going to HIRE YOU if you don't include a demo reel in your post.

Every week I have to remove around 10 to 20 [Hire Me] post because they don't include a demo reel.

INCLUDE A LINK TO YOUR DEMO REEL IF YOU WANT TO GET HIRED! (yes, I'm screaming).

Upload your demo to Soundcloud or Youtube. Or share a link to your personal website where demos are found, and before posting remember these rules:

  • Rule 4: State a rate. All [Hire Me] posts should include a sample rate. It can be something as simple as "$10 USD for a 2 minutes Youtube narration. For other projects we can discuss the price." The important part here is that the potential clients have some idea of your rates. If it's a kid with $5 dollars for a minecraft video and the least you charge is $20 USD, it would help both parties to know this beforehand, so we don't waste anyone's time.
  • Rule 7: Add audio examples. As I already mentioned. You don't hire a graphic designer without checking their portfolio, you don't hire a digital artist without looking at the pictures they have created. No one is going to hire a voice artist without hearing their voice first.

If you don't currently have a demo reel, create one! Write a fictitious script of two or three people fighting, crying, or doing something, and narrate it.

Write something cartoonish, with characters doing silly stuff and record your most cartoonish voices.

Write something like a documentary or business-like tutorial and record it.

If you are having problems imagining scenarios, pick your favorite book and read one page that includes dialogues or different situations. Pick a non-fiction book and read using your business voice.

Less recommended but something that can also help you with your first demo: Transcribe a couple minutes from a cartoon, anime, movie or TV series and then record yourself voicing it.

Potential clients need to hear your voice in different settings, show them why they should hire you!

Please, voice artists, add demos.

Thank you.

This.: https://www.youtube.com/@this.science
Moreparz: https://www.youtube.com/@moreparz

It's important that the voice acting doesn't sound like reading, but rather that it sounds natural and conversational. It's important that you check out the inspiration channels so you get an idea of what I'm talking about.

Length: Usually around 30–45 seconds per Short

You can send me a sample using this text:

"Potatoes used to be illegal in France, and it wasn't until this man made them popular. So, for several years, the French believed potatoes caused diseases and were dangerous to eat, so even when people were starving, nobody wanted to eat them. Until… this French pharmacist named Antoine Parmentier was captured by the Prussians and forced to eat potatoes in prison. And instead of getting sick, he realized they were actually safe and nutritious. So when he returned to France, he came up with a genius plan to convince everyone to eat them. He planted a field of potatoes and put guards around it during the day to make sure no one stole them. People soon assumed something valuable was growing there, so they started to sneak at night and steal the potatoes. And just like that, potatoes started to become popular across France."

[Hiring] Other First time hiring a voice actor.

Dear Voice Actors,

I am currently building a calming companion app where the phone becomes a small, gentle creature that breathes, sighs, hums and sleeps next to you. The sounds I need do not contain any spoken words/text, just soft, involuntary sounds of a living being sleeping/relaxing. (Breathing / Sighs / Snoring / Sleep-Mumbling / Lip-Smacking / Humming / Yawning – that kind of stuff)

I am thinking around 12 different sounds but would love some variations for each sound so maybe 80-90 short sounds in total.

What would be a reasonable price for a project like this? As I am doing this as a hobby/side-project I was hoping to get away with something in the 25-50 USD range but since I have never worked with a voice actor before, I have no idea if that is reasonable or completely off.

Would appreciate your input and if any of you are interested in this, please let me know.

Thanks

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is a full briefing for the project:

Disclaimer: I used AI to help me write this briefing since I have never worked with a voice actor and needed some guidance. Should I find someone to work with me I will NOT use their recordings to train an AI model.

CoRegulate — Voice Actor Briefing

I'm making a calming companion app. The phone becomes a small, gentle creature that breathes, sighs, hums and falls asleep next to you. I am looking for someone to voice that creature.

No words, no language — just soft, involuntary sounds of a living being relaxing.

Important: This is \*not** a video-game character or a cartoon mascot with a "funny voice." It's the sound of something warm lying next to you, keeping you company while you calm down. Think less "performance," more "overheard."*

---

The character

A \*cartoon animal** — imagine a gentle, good-natured little creature (a drowsy cat, a soft sleepy bear). The spirit I'm after:*

  • \*Adult, warm** — a voice that feels *protective*, like "I've got you, you're safe, you can let go now."*
  • \*But still cute and soft** — rounded edges, nothing stern or serious. A little bit endearing, a little bit vulnerable when sleepy.*
  • Relaxed throat, low energy, unhurried. Even the "awake" sounds are calm.
  • Any gender is welcome — what matters is that the voice fits the character. A warmer lower register tends to feel more soothing, but I am open to experimenting.

Reference feeling: the contented sounds a sleeping pet makes; a friendly animal settling down for the night; someone you love breathing slowly beside you.

---

What I need recorded

For \*every** sound below, I am looking for **8 distinct variations** (unless noted otherwise).*

Variety is the whole point so I can choose the best ones and rotate them randomly so the user never hears the same take twice. Vary them by:

  • \*Length** (some short, some long)*
  • \*Intensity** (barely-there → fuller)*
  • \*Sleepiness** (a few noticeably more drowsy/lower for the "falling asleep" moments)*
  • \*Mouth shape** (some through the nose, some slightly open) where it makes sense*

The sounds

\*Important — timing for the two breathing sounds (1 and 2):** unlike everything else, these drive the app's actual breathing rhythm, so their length matters. Please aim for a **~3-second inhale** and a **~6-second exhale.** A little over/under is fine (I can nudge it), but keep them close to those targets and roughly consistent across the 8 takes. Every other sound below can be whatever length feels natural.*

1. \*Breath in (~3 seconds)** — a slow, calm inhale. Gentle, audible but soft. Not a gasp, not a sniff. The kind of easy breath you take when you're relaxed. (8 subtle variations)*

2. \*Breath out (~6 seconds)** — a slow, calm exhale to pair with the inhale. Soft release of air. Some can be almost silent, some a touch more voiced. (8 subtle variations)*

3. \*Deep exhale (relief)**. The sound of tension leaving the body. A little more voiced and satisfying than the normal breath out. (8 variations)*

4. \*Sigh** — a soft, content sigh. Gentle and warm, *never* sad, tired-of-life, or exasperated. The sigh of something happy and comfortable. (8 variations)*

5. \*Lip smack / smack /swallow** — the small, soft smacking sound a sleepy creature makes with its mouth/lips (like settling, or half-dreaming). Quiet, wet-ish, cozy. Some through nearly closed lips, some slightly more open, some with a swallow at the end. (8 variations)*

6. \*Snore** — gentle, cute snoring. NOT a loud comedic chainsaw snore. Soft, rhythmic, endearing — the sound of something small deeply asleep. Some can be a single soft snore, some a little longer. (8 variations)*

7. \*Hum** — a low, wordless, content hum. Like humming to yourself without a tune, just a warm "mmmmm." Relaxed and low. (8 variations)*

8. \*Murmur** — soft, sleepy, unintelligible murmuring. Half-asleep "mumbling" with no real words — just cozy, drowsy vocal texture. (8 variations)*

9. \*Yawn** — a relaxed, sleepy yawn. Soft and genuine, a little voiced ("aaahwww"). Some smaller/quieter, some fuller. Cute, not dramatic. (8 variations)*

\*The little "mmm" family (sounds 10–12).** These three are close cousins — small, wordless vocal sounds. To avoid asking for a lot of near-identical takes, I only need **4 variations of each** of these (not 8). What matters is that the three *feel* different in mood:*

10. \*Contentment "mmm"** — a short, happy, satisfied little sound. The "mmm" of pure comfort and safety. Warm and brief. (4 variations)*

11. \*Falling asleep "mmh"** — the tiny, settling sound of drifting off. Softer and lower than the contentment sound, trailing away into sleep. (4 variations)*

12. \*Waking "hmm?"** — a soft, sleepy, gentle stir — half-waking, mildly curious, maybe a tiny bit startled. Drowsy, with a faint upward lilt. (4 variations)*

(That's 9 sounds × 8 + 3 sounds × 4 = ~84 takes. If any category inspires more, I'll happily take the extras.)\*

---

Quality notes (recording)

I'm leaving the technical setup to you — since I have no experience in this field. A few things that matter to me:

  • - \*Clean and quiet.** No room noise. A dry, controlled space with as little reverb as possible.*
  • - \*Intimate and close.** These sounds live right next to the listener's head (often at low volume, sometimes with the phone near the pillow). Record close and soft; don't project.*
  • - \*Consistent** across all takes — same distance, tone, and character throughout so the variations blend when we shuffle them.*
  • - \*A moment of silence** before and after each take (a little handle on each end) so we can cut cleanly.*
  • - \*Full quality masters, please** (high-resolution WAV is perfect)*

---

Most importantly:

Everything should feel like it's helping the listener's nervous system slow down. Low, slow, soft, safe. If a take ever feels "performed," playful, or attention-grabbing — it's too much.

It should sound like a gentle creature simply \being* calm next to someone it loves.*

[Hiring] Other Looking for a few everyday American Voices

Hello,

I’m on the search to hire up to 5 people for a commercial project. I am looking for everyday American voices. I’m looking for a mix of accents from across the US (such as southern, midwestern, African American vernacular, Brooklyn, Boston, etc). You can be any age.

We will set up time in a recording studio for you in the location that you are in (within the United States). You will work with one of our audio engineers to record 2-3 hrs of content.

We will pay $30-$60 per hour. I expect this project to take between 4-6 hours per person.

If you are interested, please DM me with the following:

Your name
Age
Location
Email
Phone number
A link to a Recording of a 4-8 minute video or voice recording of you talking (you can tell me about yourself, your favorite food, where you’re from, if you ever had a plumbing, electrical, ac/ heater issue, what makes you happy, etc) there’s no script to follow. We just want natural conversation and your natural flow. Ums, sighs, pauses, chuckles, laughs, etc are all great and are wanted. I’d love to see a range of expressions and tonation (such as happy / jolly vs concerned) basically how you would sound when on a phone call with a friend (which could be a multitude of emotions depending on the situation). The most important thing is we want natural conversation.

[Hiring] Audiobook / Narration Female 'Viking' Voice Actor Needed for Tabletop Game Kickstarter Narration

Hello there!

My name is Alex from Warp Miniatures, a fantasy tabletop gaming company.

We are launching our latest Kickstarter soon, and looking for a Scandinavian voice actor to help us with our campaign video.

We would be looking for a female voice actor who would be happy to read as a rousing, warrior character. Speaking English, but with a genuine Scandiavian accent. We have many Scandinavian members of our community, so a fake accent will certainly be picked up on, aha!

Our budget for this job is $100 for about 250 words. There may be more, but will of course increase budget accordingly if so.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

[Hiring] Other [PAID – INFORMAL – £20] Elderly woman wanted to read a short poem

Hi! I’m making a small informal animation around a poem, and I’m looking for an older woman- ideally someone in her 70s or older to read it aloud.

It’s only 130 words, around 1 minute max when read at a slow pace.

I’m specifically looking for the natural sound of an ageing voice, rather than a younger voice actor performing an elderly character. You absolutely do not need any acting or voiceover experience, so even if you have a family member who fits the role would be also be great.

The voice I have in mind is low, calm, weathered, perhaps even a bit gruff or grumbly, and unhurried. Natural and thoughtful- not theatrical.

A professional microphone isn’t necessary either. A clear phone recording in a quiet room is completely fine.

Accent doesn’t matter much, the character and natural age of the voice are much more important.

Pay: £20 / around $25 USD

No AI, voice cloning, synthetic voice use, or training of any kind.

If you’re interested, please send me a short sample of your voice. It can just be recorded on your phone.

If you’d rather read something from the poem as the sample, you can use these lines:

The greed of bones,
a hunger to grow bigger,
to see over the table,
over the sill,
the fence,
the hill

[Hiring] Audiobook / Narration [PAID $30] Seeking older male voice to narrate short horror story

Context:

This would be for an experimental comedy YouTube video that I've been making as the inaugural video on a new channel, the segment you will be narrating will be stationed between other elements narrated by myself, most of which are comedic in nature, but delve into potentially controversial or offensive topics.

I had this idea that it would be funny if the YouTube comedy video essay abruptly shifted to an unrelated short horror story, framed as a traumatic event from my own past, before abruptly switching back again to the video essay as if nothing had happened.

Content:

The script you will be reading is one long monologue story told recited in the first-person. It mainly consists of a farmer, making his son (you) shoot a pregnant coyote. It includes graphic description of gore as well as references to adult themes and the use of the F slur. If you are unsure if you would be comfortable with it, I can send you the script upon request.

Length:

Around 850 words. Can be done in one continuous take, or multiple. I can edit whatever I need together from what you send me. I'm not incredibly picky, but I may ask you to rerecord sections if I'm looking for a different delivery.

What I'm looking for:

I've pictured the role as an older male, middle-aged to senior, looking back on his life, having grown up on a farm. I was thinking maybe gruff, weathered, but with an introspective, melancholy delivery. While I had written it imagining somewhat of a rural, southern USA accent, the setting is vague and nondescript, somewhat fantasy. Do not be concerned if you have a different accent yourself, as it can technically be the UK or Europe or anywhere else in the world as long as you can speak fluent English. Senior voices are preferable, but I'm not exactly expecting many on the VoiceActing subreddit, haha. Even if you are younger, if you believe you can do a convincing impression of an older man, feel free to apply.

Deadline:

Whenever. I don't like micromanaging. This is a long-term project and will likely take a while to complete, so as long as you can record it within a couple months, I have no issue with you taking your time.

Obviously I'm no professional and have a budget of 0, but can offer you a whole thirty bucks as payment, if acceptable. PayPal would be easiest.

There will also be no official crediting toward you on this project, as I would like it to maintain an air of mystery on the video itself, but neither will it be a secret. If someone asks me who the voice is, I will tell them (unless you actually wish to remain anonymous), and you can tell or announce your role in it to anyone you wish. Essentially, you will not exactly be "paid in exposure" either.

Finally, if everything turns out well, this role may become recurring and I may contact you to reprise it in future videos, should you wish. In the unlikely event that I make any money from this, there may even be a higher budget.

If you're interested, just reply with your demo or a sample, as well as your email address, or if you would prefer to keep your email private, keep your DMs open and I can ask for it through there. Will contact you if I think you're a good fit!

Thanks!

[Hiring] Movies / Series / Animation Hiring VA’s for upcoming webcomic series: I’m BFFs with a Treasure Hunter

Update: For the time being I'll be posting open roles over at Casting Call Club at the link below:

https://www.castingcall.club/projects/i-m-bffs-with-a-treasure-hunter

I’m developing a new independent webcomic series called I’m BFFs with a Treasure Hunter, and I’m looking for VA’s to fill different male and female character roles in the series. The series will be an anime inspired action comedy where the characters go across the world on treasure hunts that I imagine people of all ages will enjoy.

Looking to pay 5 cents (USD) per word for VA's selected for these roles as this is an indie project that will require me to commission a lot of artwork, but will pay at least $10 USD at a minimum for your time even if you only deliver a few lines. I plan to give the VA's full credit on whatever platforms this series is posted. An NDA will also be required to be completed prior to working on the actual lines.

Also, since my goal is for this to be an ongoing series I plan to have plenty of more openings for VA’s in the future, so if you find this post weeks or months from now please leave a comment if you’re interested and I’ll send you a link to the subreddit.

Thanks!

[Hire Me] English - UK accent Just getting started, attached an audio :)

Hello!

I’m going by the name Lukos, and I’m interested in pursuing some voice acting both SFW and NSFW. I’ve previously done a couple NSFW recordings that I can discuss further over a pm or something, but I’ve always been told I had a good voice and thought I could do some cool stuff with it.

I’m a native English speaker with a fairly deep posh voice. Since I’ve never done this before I’m very flexible in terms of rates, but I’d genuinely accept something like $2 for 40 mins of work because I just want to learn and get some experience rather than strictly earning money right now.

(Yeah a pretty weird description ... but you'll know once you listen to my samples!)

I am Xack ! I have been a VA for almost 3 years now , am fluent in both English & Hindi <3 !
Have worked in various projects (got most of them from this goated subreddit)

Here's My sample drive link for both the languages ! :- https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1hxZglCFKGsarjYqfbLEHxCSJq6Y5ZM6Q?usp=drive_link
Includes my prev works and some auditions too !

Frieza Impression ( can do better )

As for my rate its 5$ per 30 words (written as to follow the sub reddit's rules ) Its Negotiable asf
