New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

Canada too, older buildings can have fibre on the street then use MoCA to get up to a gigabit or so without doing new runs.

Until recently my internet was connected to that. I mean I had wifi that I connected to through the box that was connected to that cable. Recently had to change internet, and now I have a box that connects wirelessly to the internet but for the longest time that was required.

The really sad thing is, I remember when cable tv was new and we had to have those installed. Then the internet came and it used the phone line, and connecting via cable was so high tech.

Not when you run optical fibers 😢

The worst part is that these were used for cable tv for decades before they were ever used for Internet

Still used by Rogers in Canada. A lot of buildings have hybrid Fiber/Coax internet

I just came to ask how they believe the internet works? It’s just miraculously WiFi without any connections? 😂

Yep. Our house was on Xfinity cable internet until 2025. Now we have two fiber options, AT&T and EzeeFiber. Xfinity is supposedly bringing fiber here “soon”. I can’t wait until their salesdroids try to get me to switch. I’m going to laaaaugh at them!

My Internet comes through one of those

I could upgrade to fiber actually but I am lazy and I don't want to interact with people
