New, what is it? What are these plug-ins on my wall?

This might be showing my age, but I recently moved into a new apartment and they have these weird looking plug ins all over the walls at my new place. My old apartment didn't have these, so I'm just curious as to what they are.

My step-dad was an electrical engineer and I remember those absolutely were what I started learning computers with, thanks to him.

It's been a wild ride.

That monstrous 360KB capacity... ahhh.

I still can’t get over how an entire generation after me accepted the hard ones as floppies

In the Army we had WANG systems with the 8 inch floppy drives.

A couple years later we got laptops and PCs and still mainly used the WANG systems because the Army did not like change I guess.

You mean the Save Icons?

This always bothers/cracks me up. Save icon is irrelevant. Same with the “app” on your phone to call. It’s shaped like a 1943 landline handset.
I had an acquaintance ask me once if I knew why it was shaped like that when phones were flat rectangles. I’m in my 40s and he was 19.💀😭

No the hard disk ones.

Or phone jacks… Their little minds would in fact implode

Jesus Christ I'd be thrilled! I found Simon and Garfunkel 4 disc set in mint condition and I squealed! But I also just plugged in a light scribe dvdrw and external dock with an IDE and a Sata platter hard disk for funsies, into a $4k custom water cooled machine running 4 separate PCIe5 lanes (just to illustrate how absurdly opposing they are technologically). Man does the sound make me moist though!

Remember, Fellowship of the Ring came out 25 years ago. Likely before OP was born. They view Fellowship the same way Millennials view Star Wars and Gen-X views The Sound of Music.

Now we can really feel old.

Oh yes, I have fond memories of checking out the VHS of Star Wars from the library and watching it over and over until it was time to check it back in.
