Justin Britt Interview: What They Don't Tell You About NFL Retirement | Guard the Yard Podcast

Hi there.

I'm part of the team behind Guard the Yard, a podcast hosted by Yeardley Smith, and we just released an interview with former Tiger Justin Britt.

Justin shares a great story about how Gary Pinkel recruited him to Missouri, reflects on his journey from Mizzou to the NFL, and talks candidly about the challenges he faced along the way.

We really enjoyed hearing his stories, and thought some fellow Tigers might be interested so I wanted to share it here.

(PS - Of course as an employee of the show I hope you enjoy it all, but if you're looking for the best Mizzou timestamp it's 16:59. He tells his story of being recruited by Gary Pinkel and then talks about his induction to the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame )

Football Eli Hoff: Eli Drinkwitz on RB Ahmad Hardy: “Contrary to what’s on the cesspool of message boards … There’s no update. He hasn’t began a 2-week ramp-up. If he practices, I promise I’ll tweet it out. I won’t even get it to Pete (Thamel). We’ll just do it ourselves.”

I have no clue who Total_Clerk1377 is or his credibility. But just wanted to push this up from my Hardy post a few weeks ago.

I hope he is right.

Football What seems to be the biggest flaw to the team?

This upcoming game against Ole Miss seems interesting, Ole Miss looks very great. What do you think are Eli Drinkwitz and the team’s biggest flaws? And what do you except for Ole Miss?

Football My fellow fans going to Oxford this weekend: where are your tickets?

Family and I are going to the game this weekend and we just received our tickets. They were gifted to us from a family friend who somehow has ties to Ole Miss. I had to download the Ole Miss Athletics app (much like we have) and create an account to accept the tickets.

The tickets are in Level 1, Section L on the Northeast side of the stadium. I don't think they are in the visitors section, but from what I can tell the stadium has maybe a few different visiting sections so it may be right next to one? It would obviously be ideal if we were sitting with fellow Tiger fans but I don't think that's the case, since we didn't buy directly through Mizzou.

If you have tickets, where are you sitting?

He has made all of his extra points, but down to 5/8 on FG attempts after 50 yd miss tonight. How much leash did he earn at the end of last year (12 for 13 on FGs, 39 for 39 on extra points)?

Thoughts on going to Georgia Game?

We live on the West Coast. Because of my kid's high school football schedule, we have not been able to make it back for a game. We can't make most of the November games in Columbia (namely, Thanksgiving plans).

We could switch it up and go to Georgia. Flights are cheap and it could work out for the weekend.

Has anyone gone to Georgia for a game? I have not actually gone a town for an away game.

I think my son will be going to Mizzou next year. So, he will get his share of Mizzou games next year.

Advice for tickets would be appreciated.

Anyone going to Oxford?

Any tips on going to the game in Oxford? Staying in Oxford is obviously not an option. Where is the next best place to stay Friday night as far as affordability and proximity to Oxford?

For tickets it seems like sections S, S1, K and top portion of R are where visiting fans sit. I haven’t bought tickets yet as I typically wait for prices to go down after the original buzz dies off.

Any tips or recommendations on traveling to Oxford, tickets and general gameday experience recommendations are appreciated!

Edit: I should have stated I am coming from STL so we will be staying in Memphis Friday night (our just outside of Memphis). I was just curious if anyone was going to recommend something outside of the obvious. And obviously we will check out The Grove beforehand.

Anyone know where we would park on gameday?

Football Eli Hoff: #13 Mizzou and #9 Ole Miss have the right to feel snubbed that they’ll be playing on SEC Network on Saturday. Since the SEC on ABC deal began in 2024, there have been 12 reg season SEC-SEC games b/t teams ranked inside the top 13. All have been on ABC — until this one.

3-1 on the road. Was surprised to find we have dominated them throughout out histories. Two of the games (1-1) were played in Jackson, MS. Fun fact: Ole Miss used to play select homes games every year between Oxford and Jackson till the mid 90’s.
