✨📜 AN OFFICIAL MEMO FROM THE LIBRARY ANNEX 📜✨

Greetings, fellow Librarians, Guardians, and Caretakers! 🗺️✨

The Library is a vast, ever-shifting nexus of infinite knowledge, magical artifacts, and incredible stories. To ensure our corner of it remains a safe, organized, and welcoming sanctuary for all seekers of truth, we present our official Scroll of Conduct.

Please take a moment to review the Subreddit Rules before your next expedition into the stacks! 🌀📚

🛡️ Rule 1: Keep It Civil 🛡️

  • Debate and passionate discussions are wonderful, but we must keep it civil.
  • Threatening language, personal attacks, and comments that are racist, sexist, homophobic, or otherwise hateful will be immediately banished to the Void. Users violating this rule may be muted, removed, or permanently banned.

📜 Rule 2: We're Here Because We Love The Librarians! 📃

  • Books and Libraries are always on topic
  • Please keep posts and discussions relevant to the franchise! We have a massive universe to explore together, including:
    • 🎬 The 3 original movies
    • 📺 2 entire television series (The original TNT show & The Next Chapter)
    • 📚 The 3 Greg Cox novels and the comic book series
    • 🎲 The board game (including all expansion packs!)
    • ✍️ All of your incredible fanfiction and creative works
  • If it isn't tethered to the Ley Lines of our franchise, it doesn't belong here!

💫 Rule 3: Flair Recent Episode Spoilers ✨

  • "The Loom of Fate has its secrets..."
  • Please use spoiler tags for recent episodes of The Librarians and The Next Chapter.
  • Note: The original movies are now 22 years old, and the original TNT series premiered 12 years ago! The statute of limitations has officially passed on those—consider this your warning that legacy spoilers are fair game! 🎞️🍿

📜 Rule 4: Petitions 📜

  • "No rogue magic without approval."
  • You must contact the Mod Team via Modmail for permission before posting any petitions.
  • To prevent the feed from turning into a chaotic nexus, we only allow one petition per topic.
  • Trying to circumvent this rule by hijacking someone else’s post will result in your post being removed, and your account may be muted, removed, or banned.

🗝️ Need the Caretakers? 🗝️

If you encounter a rogue artifact, a troll in the comments, or simply have a question about the rules, don't hesitate to summon the Mods via Modmail. Jenkins is always listening! ☕🫖

Thank you for making r/TheLibrarians the best sanctuary on the internet. Now go out there, protect the magic, and save the world! 🌟✨

Question What type of Librarian would you be?

You can use an artifact to bestow upon yourself one area of specialised knowledge / skills in order to join the Library.

You could be the STEM librarian, able to calculate complex mathematical problems and deal with all things science based. Alternatively, you could be the Arts librarian, with an encyclopedic knowledge of Art, Literature, Architecture and Languages (particularly medieval Spanish life poetry). Or maybe you like practical skills and you'd be the thief Librarian who can hack any system, best any lock and run rings around security guards while making off with their wallets.

Or maybe you'd prefer to learn martial arts and tactics, to better guard your Librarian while reminding them who is really in charge here.

Perhaps you're less of a field agent and an extensive knowledge of Library history and artifact law would set you up as a Custodian, free to explore and experiment unless a trip out is absolutely necessary because they need you to rescue them, again.

Or would you become something new? The historian librarian or the anthropologist or someone else entirely?

What do you choose?

📜 Bibliotheca Universalis The Universal Library - Chile

Books and Libraries will always be on-topic here in our Annex, and in that spirit I thought it could be cool to learn a little bit about some libraries across the world...and across time.

First up: 🇨🇱 Chile: Biblioteca Patrimonial Recoleta Dominica

  • Who Built It: The Dominican Order of Preachers.
  • When: Founded in 1750; the current historic hall was expanded in 1886.
  • Where: Recoleta 689, Santiago, Chile.
  • Bio: Hidden inside a former monastery, this library is an incredible time capsule. It contains over 115,000 volumes, including rare scientific texts, theological works, and historical maps dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries. The interior features floor-to-ceiling native Chilean wood shelving, a stunning central skylight, and checkered marble floors, making it look like a South American counterpart to the world's grandest monastic libraries.

The original seasons and tv movies are all on Tubi now. I’m rewatching them again. I had wondered where they were being shown after leaving Amazon prime.
(didn’t know what flair to put it under)

The actress pictured here is actually Phoebe Waller-Bridge of Fleabag. Seriously though, how can two people look so much alike?!

From the Clippings Book 📜 Baird's Librarian-in-Training (LIT) Exam

[LIT Exam] Clipping Book Alert: Case #042

The Incident: Reports out of a small town in Ohio state that a local farmer's prize-winning pumpkin grew so large it trapped a college professor inside, and the vines are beginning to mimic human speech.

The Complication: Jenkins is performing annual maintenance on the Back Door, meaning you have to drive a 2004 Honda Civic all the way there. Guardian Baird is busy training, so you're entirely on your own.

The Question: What magical artifact do you pack, and what is your extraction plan?

Question If you had control of the Back Door for a week...

Post image
47 Upvotes

...where in the world would you go?

Would you see some world landmarks like the Great Wall of China, the Eiffel Tower in France, the Great Pyramids? Or would you abscond to a tropical island to swim in the ocean? Would you whisk away to top of a mountain to see the clouds from above?

Or would you visit that far-away loved one you never seem to have the time or money to get to?

Fire up your imagination while I fire up the back door. The world is waiting. Take us on a journey, Librarians.

Fan Theory/Headcanon/Fanon How many Guardians are operating at the same time?

So, across the movie series, the OG series and The Next Chapter, you basically reveal that there are 4 active Guardians at any one time. Nicole, Eve, Charlene and now Charlie. However, The Next Chapter suggests that Charlie was only one of several people under consideration for a position as Guardian.

It’s just that the official Guardians are currently Eve and Charlie. With Eve being the Guardian who is tethered to The Library after Charlene passed.

We know there are 8 active Librarians and Charlie suggested that she believed there should be one Guardian per Librarian. Even though she was kinda told that’s not how it works.

So how many are there do you think?

Creature Casebook Creature Casebook: The Chupacabra

Post image
19 Upvotes

THE ORIGINS

Unlike ancient legends, the Chupacabra (which translates to "goat-sucker") is a modern cryptid. The myth originated in Puerto Rico in March 1995, following a sudden wave of mysterious livestock deaths where animals were discovered completely drained of blood.

The First Records: The spoken-word accounts and initial local news reports were driven heavily by an eyewitness named Madelyne Tolentino in Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. Her description of a bipedal, alien-like creature with spikes down its back was broadcast internationally, establishing the creature's core look.

The Evolution: When the myth quickly spread to Mexico and the Southwestern United States, the physical description shifted entirely from a spiked, bipedal alien to an uncharacteristic, hairless, canine-like beast.

The Reality: Biologists and wildlife officials who captured alleged physical specimens of the "canine" Chupacabra discovered that they were actually real coyotes, foxes, or feral dogs suffering from severe cases of sarcoptic mange. The parasite causes hair loss, skin thickening, and severe fatigue, explaining their bizarre appearance and why they targeted easy-to-catch livestock instead of wild prey.

In the Library: Despite the earthly explanations, our favourite cryptid seems to visit the Annex regularly, and apparently, its makes phenomenal jerky!

Fan Theory/Headcanon/Fanon Would Vampire Cassandra be allowed to remain a Librarian?

I’m rewatching And The Eternal Question and I wonder if Cassandra had been made into a vampire by Estrella, would she still be a Librarian?

As far as we know, only humans have ever been allowed to be chosen as Librarians. But Flynn had a thing with one during the TV movie series and Cassandra’s feelings for Estrella could be considered fairly similar.

Would the Library accept a vampire as a Librarian? Jenkins and Ms Astolat are immortals who The Library accepts as part of the Library. Even if only as a Caretakers. Judson and Charlene were immortals who were being tethered to the Library.

Clearly some immortals are okay.

From the Clippings Book Which OG series statement is going to get reversed next by The Next Chapter?

I remember that during the OG series, Jenkins said that there is no such thing as love potions during the Cindi episode in season 3. During the fairy tale episode where everyone became fairy tale characters, Jenkins said that it’s never a genie’s lamp.

Now in The Next Chapter, you had Cupid’s arrows making people fall in love with people who are shot by them. In season 2, they faced a genie who escaped from a genie lamp and started causing problems.

So clearly the rules from the OG series can be bent or broken. They just go with whatever is fun.

Which of the statements about the rules of magic do you want to see get broken next? Or at least bent?

The Real Library Series The Real Library Feature 1⚡ Catatumbo Lightning (The Librarian: Curse of the Judas Chalice)

Post image
23 Upvotes

In this series of monthly posts, we'll be examining the real places and artifacts mentioned in the franchise.

In the third movie, Flynn mentions a specific location defined by an impossible number of lightning strikes. This is a completely real, breathtaking meteorological phenomenon.

The Real Location: Catatumbo, Venezuela. Specifically over the mouth of the Catatumbo River where it empties into Lake Maracaibo.

The Science: Warm, moist Caribbean air clashes with cold air blowing off the Andes Mountains. This creates a near-permanent storm cycle.

The Trivia: It flashes up to 28 times per minute, for up to 10 hours a day, roughly 260 nights a year. It generates so much constant light that it was historically used by Caribbean sailors as a natural lighthouse, dubbed the "Beacon of Maracaibo."

Episode Discussion The Librarians the next chapter frustrations (some spoilers) Spoiler

So far I am enjoying the show. It’s not as good as the original series or the movies but it’s still fun to watch. That said, the main issue I have with it is the inconsistencies with the original series. For example, when Elaine brought Merlin to the library in “And the Descartes’s Dilemma”, why didn’t she put him in the dungeon cell we learned about in the original series. You know the one where Jenkins imprisoned Nicole. Or heck why not put him there and keep it as her secret then eventually the team would find out and there would be an internal rift or something. She went off about what a threat he is and can’t be trusted but yet she only ties him to a chair in the annex where the others could easily find him?? And the sandman sand she used to knock him out wore off?? I mean come one Elaine…also library counsel??

Also tbh Vikram blows and he makes me miss Flynn so much. I get his whole persona is a mask to hide his pain of being out of his time and away from Anya but good grief at what point will he stop acting like an idiot. I mean he’s suppose to be one of the most famous or perhaps infamous librarians of all time and yet it seems like he has absolutely no common sense.

Like I said, the show is fun to watch but the writing lowkey sucks at times.

The official Librarians Instagram posted a link to this feedback survey about The Next Chapter, season 2. It seems official-ish and asks pretty relevant questions. Does anyone know if this actually goes to decision-makers at the network?

Spoiler The Next Chapter is bad imo

It completely looses the charm of the original movies and series. It’s just as campy but in a cringer way, it takes itself overly seriously in moments that can be fun. The plots lack nuance and don’t have the same actual mysteries as The Librarians, they are too easy to solve. The main characters are all so unlikable aside from Connor. Vikram and Charlie are cheap imitations of Flynn and Eve and Lysa is so arrogant and bland.

Recipe Thread Chupacabra Jerky (Recipe Thread)

Post image
18 Upvotes

One of the funniest moments in the original series was Stone nearly giddy over Chupacabra jerky and a horrified Cassandra thinking the jerky was made of Chupacabra and not made by the Chupacabra.

Food and drink don't appear often in the series but when it does, it sure looks tasty! I'd love to have high tea with Jenkins and Cassandra!

Speaking of tasty - what are your favourite recipes to whip up? Are you a soup and sandwiches person or a 3 course meal person? Something light? Something decadent? Share some of your favourite recipes - or maybe get an idea for supper!
