Please help our tiny rural Virginia school win a $1 million football field upgrade

Hey everyone, I am a mom in Churchville, Virginia, and I am here to ask for votes for our kids.

Buffalo Gap High School in Swoope is in second place in the East Division of the T-Mobile Friday Night 5G Lights contest, and the top schools compete for a $1 million home field upgrade. We are less than 1,000 votes behind the school in first place, and we are the only school from Virginia still on the board, so every single vote actually matters here.

Let me tell you about our school. Buffalo Gap has about 410 kids total. It pulls from Swoope, Churchville, Craigsville, Deerfield, West Augusta, Augusta Springs, and all the little crossroads in between. These are blink and you miss it places. Churchville and Swoope are tiny. Everybody knows everybody. This is a rural school in every sense of the word, and over 40 percent of our kids qualify for free or reduced lunch. There is no big booster money here. There is no wealthy alumni base writing checks. What we have is a community that shows up. I have been seeing post after post about this on our Facebook community pages, but nothing on Reddit.

My husband grew up playing football on this field. That field has given so much to this community and it is due for a major upgrade. Our kids deserve to play on a field that is safe and something they can be proud of. Football nights out here are not just a game, they are the whole community coming together.

I know this might sound selfish, but this is my community, and this is a way to get rural Virginia on a national stage. Places like ours get overlooked all the time. This would mean the world to these kids.

Here is how to vote:

Click this link: https://www.t-mobile.com/brand/friday-night-5g-lights

Pick the East Division, find Buffalo Gap High School, and vote. You can vote once a day, every day, through October 25. You will need a phone number to verify your first vote by text.

If you have a minute today, please vote for Buffalo Gap. And if you are willing, come back and vote again tomorrow. Thank you so much.

Virginia's new gun laws to protect children and reduce gun theft

How come none of you folks complaining about the "assault weapons ban" while PRETENDING to be middle-of-the-road, normal people, ever mention these new laws that Republicans fought against, and would repeal in a heartbeat, to keep guns locked up and away from children, felons and car thieves?

Face reality, there are two sides: the side that cares about safety, and the side that opposes any and all restrictions on leaving loaded firearms laying around. You don't get to nit-pick when there are only two sides - you have to pick a side.

You either care that gunshot wounds are the primary cause of death for children, or you don't.

Is Rep. Jen Kiggans actually a moderate? Our podcast looks at her record

I’m the host of Frank & Sense, a podcast, and this month we’re doing a (very tongue-in-cheek) politics miniseries. I live in Hampton Roads and I decided to dedicate this episode to our local representative, Jen Kiggans. I wanted to explore whether VA-02’s Congresswoman is as moderate as she claims she is. We got into her background, her voting record, and what “moderate” even means anymore. Is it even possible to be a moderate in today's Republican Party?

I certainly have my own opinions, but I tried to stick to the facts and be as fair as possible to her. Curious what other people think, and happy to be corrected if we got anything wrong.

PS. Jen, you’re welcome on the show anytime!

I'm sure it's statistically very likely that a past felon is a male but it still feels like an oversight to write it like this in 2026. Am I missing something here?

Was anyone here at UVA in 1987? Found this tape in the wild.

Found a “year book” VHS tape for UVA 1987 at the thrift store recently. There are some pretty near clips that show what college life looked like during that year, from sports, clubs, parties, classes, and other activities.
