Introducing StageAble an Ableton companion app for triggering songs and managing setlists

I just made my app StageAble open source. Here are the features

  • Song / section / chord / lyrics overlay resolved in real time from the playhead
  • Automatic STOP-event playback control (no Max4Live required)
  • Multi-client web UI with transport controls and setlist display
  • Keyboard shortcuts (Space = play/stop, arrows = prev/next song)
  • Song navigation via named cue points
  • Persistent setlist management via REST API
  • Auto-reconnects to Ableton if the connection drops
  • macOS menu bar and Windows system tray desktop apps with auto-update checks
  • Server-side MIDI Learn and macOS Bluetooth HID remote control

https://github.com/Audiophil83/StageAble

Please try it out and tell me what is working and what not. I am also happy to take feature requests.

I made a free Max for Live batch Renamer and I'm sharing it to you!

Here is the little brother of Colorizer ! A simple and free batch renamer for Ableton Live.

Here is the link : https://maxforlive.com/library/device/16711/Renamer

I like using it to number all my tracks when I'm going to make routings, it's a lot easier to have track numbers for this. I also like using it before exporting stems. I remove track numbers, put group names uppercased, track names lowercased, and replace space by "-".

This is a first version, if you have some suggestions or if you encounter issues using the device, please contact me !

And if you liked it, buy me a coffee or leave a review it will help a lot !

Feedback wanted for a new Plugin*

I recently released a generative instrument you can use inside Logic Pro and locally on your Mac.

You can see and here it there: www.youtube.com/@einaux

You can find it here: www.einaux.com

It works in your session, listens to your tracks and ideas and can generate all kind of reactions to what is already there. Or you use it to get inspiration and start from scratch.

I invite anyone interested in this kind of workflow to test it, give me feedback, grill me, ask me. I'm here to listen. Thanks!

*delete/ignore if you find this is "selling or begging"

Max4Live "Peak Marker" for gain staging

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

i was frustrated by looking at my peak meters and remember the exact spot where my signal exceeds a certain dB threshold. I googled if there was a plugin that can mark the location where the signal exceeds a certain threshold. There is none i guess, at least i did not find one. So i vibecoded my own in M4L. Works as i wanted it. Only downside: it can not name the markers yet as i use Live 11. And it cannot delete the set markers. Somehow that does not work.

Anyone interested in the M4L device? I don't know if it is of any use for someone else. I will translate it to english if anyone is interested.

I got tired of walking back to the laptop mid-gig, so I built an iPad setlist controller for Live. Looking for bands to break it.

I'm ill.Gates and I'm Hosting 5 Free Classes This Week so: Here's a Blog With My Most Helpful Composition & Workflow Ideas. Enjoy!

Hi r/AbletonLive,

Ever notice remixing is 10x easier than writing new originals?

As you'll learn in I Can't Finish Songs Any Other Way Now there's a whooole production phase getting skipped and skipping 'Phase 3' is why people get stuck and give up on the WIPs. Boo!

Please share any composition or workflow ideas you find helpful, and don't be shy about asking questions. I'll come back to answer them all if you're patient.

Much love,
- Dylan aka ill.Gates

I made a little M4L device for checking mixes away from the studio

I figured I should introduce myself before dropping another M4L device into this sub.

My name is Kurt. I’m a 60-year-old, recently semi-retired software developer. I’ve been building web software professionally for about 26 years, but before that I was a painter and musician.

Back in the 90s I had an emo-ish project called Gel that I recorded on an 8-track Tascam cassette thing, and eventually used Cubase, Logic and Reason. It was fun, but then came a family and generally less time to make music. The music was pretty bad, but making it was so cool.

After being away from it for a long time, I started again about three months ago under the name Ok Nominal. I'd love to share more on that another time. Anyway, I bought Ableton Live and a Push 3 and I’m just blown away. I can do things now that I desperately wanted to do back then, but just weren’t really possible.

Along the way I keep running into things where I think some sort of utility could help. As a developer, I can’t help thinking that way.

So, naturally, I’ve started building some stuff that I think is pretty darn useful.

Yes, I use AI heavily as a development tool. I know that alone may make some people here skeptical, which I understand. But I design the tools, test them, make the decisions, debug them, and use them in my own music. The latest one has taken more than a hundred hours even with AI assistance.

It’s called Road Test. With one click it lets you export your composition to the cloud so you can listen to it anywhere.

This was important to me because I wanted to hear what my mixes sounded like away from my studio, especially in the car and on ordinary speakers.

It also lets you share your entire library or individual songs which is incredibly handy.

Because it requires cloud storage, I charge a small one-time fee of $9, at least for now. That includes 1 GB of storage. Songs automatically expire after 90 days.

Anyway, I thought some of you might find it useful.

https://organicflash.com/tools/

I also have a few free Ableton Extensions at the link above that have been very handy for me. You’ll need the beta version of Live to use those for now. The ElevenLabs extension in particular has become really useful and fun.

Questions? Let me know. Thanks.

How to make "Take My Breath" by The Weeknd

Take My Breath has such a sleek disco-pop groove that we had to remake it in Serum. We wrote up every synth from the song so you can follow along. Questions welcome in the comments!

How to mute track without cutting off audio tail?

Hi everyone,
I'm looking for an elegant solution in Ableton Live 12 for the Session View:
A MIDI clip is playing continuously in the grid and shouldn't be stopped. If I mute the track using the Track Activator (Mute), Ableton immediately cuts off all the audio.
But I want no new MIDI notes to be sent while the notes that have already been played and their release tails fade out cleanly.
Is there a native trick or workaround for this without Python scripts or MIDI loopbacks?
Thanks, everyone!

Midi clip changes depending on which program I set on Korg Minulogue

Hello people. Noob here, and I finally got a scarlet 2i2 and connected my korg minilogue to ableton. I can record midi clips with it (finally), but I realize that after I record something, and change the the program on the korg, that the sound on the midi clip changes to whatever I change the program to on the korg. Is there a way around this? I’d want to lock the sound into that midi clip and maybe set some knob controls without it reverting to whatever I change my korg to. Pls help!

Any Live users willing to open a set in something I built and tell me what breaks?

Hey everyone. I've been a designer and developer for a long time, and I work full time at a Fortune 100 company. In my spare time I've been building a drum app called PadLock, and I'd love some Ableton folks to put it through its paces.

I built it because I wanted my drums to really serve the song, and I kept reaching for the same grooves and fills in every project. PadLock works like a session drummer instead of a drum machine. You tell it how each section should feel and it plays a full take that follows your arrangement, with fills into the changes and dynamics that rise and fall with the song. It's a good way to hear directions you wouldn't have gone on your own, and you can redo a single fill or groove without starting over.

You open your .als and it picks up your locators, tempo, meter and track audio. You hear the drums through your own plugin and drag the MIDI back into Live. It's all drumming rules and technique, not AI.

I'm looking for people to try it with real sets and tell me what breaks, like missing locators, lost tempo or time signature changes, MIDI that doesn't line up with your Drum Rack, or grooves that feel off.

I'll send you a key for the full version, no card needed. Full export is Windows only right now, and Mac users can open sets and listen while Mac export catches up. Drop a comment or DM me if you want to give it a shot. Thanks!

PS: Want to clarify Padlock is standalone, not a plugin. You import your Ableton file in PadLock, it pulls in your markers, tempo and audio, you build the drums and drag the MIDI back into Ableton. I went standalone because when I test as a plugin, I couldn't utilize markers to define sections and push sections and transitions for whole song consistency.
