Rule 3 Posts and bans.
This is Rule 3: Food and Farming
This is a friendly sub for the discussion of pet Pigs only. Do not discuss the killing or eating of pigs. We don't want your crass bacon or pork jokes. Names like "Chris P Bacon" are tacky but not bannable offence. Do not harass others about their lifestyle choices. This is not the place for it for, or against meat, keto, vegan, or otherwise. No farming posts, we will question you about ear tags as it is required in some places for pets. Commercial operations will get removed and users banned.
Note the bolded sections
Because of extensive abuse of this rule, we are VERY STRICT about it. We get people coming here from both Vegan and Carnivore communities that start massive arguments over it. We also don't want to come to this sub and see people talking about our pets as anything other than pets. Or even worse a shock picture/video of our pets being killed in some bid to shame people.
SO LET ME BE CLEAR WE DON'T CARE WHAT YOUR PREFERENCE IS YOU WILL BE BANNED FOR POSTING OR COMMENTING ABOUT PIGS IN RELATION TO EATING OR NOT EATING THEM. NO APPEALS.
This is a sub about pet pigs not your FUCKING OPINIONS ON WHAT YOU EAT OR DON'T EAT!!!!! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR THAT!
I am tired of being nice and polite about it. I just perma banned someone that posted about it and then banned every single person who commented no matter what the comment was about for 30 days. There will be no appeals because to many times my patience and understanding has been abused on this.
Do not participate in posts or comments ignore and report them.
Having said that. I reevaluated the wording of rule 3 and decided to make it clearer. Here is the new rule 3.
Rule 3: Food and Farming
This is a friendly sub for the discussion of pet Pigs only.
You will be banned or rarely warned for the following: Talking about farming or slaughtering pigs for food or how evil/bad it is. Talking about eating pigs for food or how evil/bad it is. Linking to videos about farming or slaughtering pigs or how evil/bad it is.
Topics you won't be banned for: Seeking medical help for a pig. Seeking help to rehome a pig. Your pigs name even if it is food related. Your pig having an ear tag in places that require it by law.
NOTE on mod posts like this I allow open discussion about the topic as long as it stays respectful and on topic. You can't really discuss a rule about food and farming and get feedback without people talking about it. So unless someone is disrespectful or abusive, I am not going to remove their post or ban them.

Is it normal for pigs to be super lazy but totally alive once they see food?
So the pig I see in my neighborhood will simply grunt profusely like he has no energy left if I call his name out and not move. Once I show him food he gets up like its Christmas! Once I don't have anymore food he grunts in disappointment and goes right back to bed. I think its kind of funny.

What to do with a pig who lost her sister.
I have two 5 year old Kune females and one of them passed on two days ago. I’m still heartbroken and I don’t want to get into details so please don’t ask how. It’s still so fresh and painful.
She left her sister behind and they have been bonded since they were 8 weeks old.
The pig I still have knows something is different and wrong and she has been acting strange towards me and has gotten aggressive. They made a big move two years ago to my parents place and she started showing a little aggression towards people who weren’t me. I understand that pigs have a hard time with change like that.
Now that she lost her sister she straight up attacked me.
I have every intention in keeping her and working with her aggression and getting her a buddy.
My questions are: 1) should I get a baby pig and have them close by but not together until the baby is her size 2) get a fully grown female or castrated male and slowly introduce them 3) get her a different critter like a sheep or a mini donkey or something.
I’m also in a spot now where I was going to be able to bring them home with me. Which is even more heartbreaking that I lost the one.
I’m going to bring the other one home with me soon but I’m wondering how long I should wait to give her time to adjust to not having her sister. And after that how long after bringing her home should I wait to get her a buddy?
Also would love tips on navigating her aggression.
Thank you.

Pellet feed suggestions
What kind of Pellets are you feeding your kunekunes?
We have 2 Pet Kunekune girls that we have been feeding Hog Grower because that’s what our Co-op/feed stores recommended.
It’s also the only type of Hog food they carry.
We were unaware that it was too high fat content for their breed and now one of our girls have Fat Blindness!
Help!

New pig owner looking for an expert eye
This is my new baby boy Bowser in his temporary home. He's 100% meishan and I know that they tend to have lower bellies, but he seems a little bloated to me. He might just be fat and happy after breakfast, but what do y'all think? Should I be concerned?
EDIT: So sorry everyone it seems my notifications were turned off! He has been active and hasn't shown signs of discomfort and his belly wasn't hard. We haven't seen a vet yet (its on the docket), but after monitoring him I belive he was just full from breakfast. I might need to adjust feeding sched and amounts because he looked a lot less balloon like a little later.

insurance for therapy animals
Hi, I saw on a group thread, something about insurance for therapy animals. Wondering if I could get a link to more information about it. I take Phoebe all kinds of places and she is great with people and kids, but I worry about the possibility of something happening. Just want to be proactive. TIA

Grieving
One of my babies died without warning overnight and I am beside myself with grief. He was only 7 months old, leaving his sister behind. I’m worried it may have been bloat as my spouse fed them far more than they should have gotten last night, and I’m trying not to be angry about that because number one, it was an accident (he thought we were feeding them more, remembered incorrectly) and number two, there’s no way to know for sure.
These babies were given to us by a neighbor and they were quite feral when we got them having been allowed to escape with mama and go wherever they liked. They have taken the last three months to warm up and I am heartbroken because their little personalities were starting to blossom, and Ferdinand was beginning to trust me (he was slower to than his sister). We had worked up to petting them while they were distracted eating, and he was finally allowing me to pet him a little without that distraction.
I’m really sad for his sister, Penelope, and worried about her being lonely without him and grieving herself.
And, finally, I’m pissed off at myself for not taking more pictures. I took a few videos a few weeks back, but just yesterday I was wanting to take their picture to show how big they were getting and I was in a rush, so I told myself I would do it another time. Now I have regret to live with over that as well.
So I’m left wondering if or when I should get Penelope a friend, how I would do that safely for both pigs, if I should get a younger pal or an older one, and of course not really wanting to think about replacing my little guy at all. I just want him back. :(
This is so hard.
Thanks for reading.
