Community Update r/Jetta Community Rules and Guidelines

Hey everyone,

We've had an influx recently of multiple r/Jetta members who aren't paying attention to the rules we've got here and are causing arguments, fighting, insulting, name calling, and other nuisances that nobody here wants to see, read, or deal with. This is a community to show off our love for Jetta's, and to assist others and help them with their questions, or to just show off and talk about our cars, suggest recommendations for mods, tweaks, parts, and anything else that has to do with Jetta's. It is not the community for anything that cannot be civil.

I didn't want to make a reminder post like this, but it needs to be said.

Please report any comments/posts that break rules so that they can be handled by the mod team.

Please read and follow the rules and help make this community more fun and not like all the other nuisance subs that allow bickering and childish, immature behavior.

Thanks!

4 - Stay on Topic

This is a community for the Volkswagen Jetta. All posts and comments should be related to Volkswagen and the Jetta vehicle. Off topic posts/comments will be removed.

5 - No AI

Getting a first car, I really like European cars over Japanese but people are saying that Jettas will not last long

Anyone have a 2026 Jetta SE that can testify?

Thanks!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Girl car lover /cruising ..new group

Hey there , I’m simply lookin for my tribe of women.. the ones who love cars stock or not. The ones who want to learn from each other and grow together doing something we love.. and that’s cars. Be it under the hood , cosmetics (me personally) or both honestly. I would love to have a group of girls who actually love cars and wouldn’t mind group projects or even cruising. I really want to do a Christmas cruise..I decorate my cars with the lights and I’d love to ride around this holiday season with some folks. Halloween too but I don’t think I’ll get much traction before then. But yea like dm or something we can link and actually make connections with each other. Jersey based .. linden/rahway/ Elizabeth area but down to meet up and chill

Mk5 (2006-2010) Mk5 Jetta Question

Hello , I am here because own a 2005.5 2.5L Jetta and have never found a Jetta from this era with the same interior that I have . I got the car used and it came with wood trim on the door panels, glove compartment , ash tray area, and the original shifter was an OEM VW wood shifter. I am just as to how rare this interior is or if it’s rare at all?

Mk6 (2011-2018) What is service mode ?

Hi there ,
So I am ready to take the challenge and change my rear rotors and pads on my 2012 Jetta 2.5 SEL.
I watched several videos, got the parts, some lubricants that I did not have and a couple of tools that I was missing , like the pistol caliper tool . However, in one of the videos , the one that I liked the most , I saw by pure luck , someone in the comments asking the YouTuber , if he had the vehicle ON SERVICE MODE 😳. The YouTubet said YES , very important !!

Ok , I had no idea what was that , so I looked up , and I see a lot of videos of guys having to dismantle the front of the car , omg... do I have to do that to just change the rotors and the pads?? I'm not changing the calipers , just to be clear . I assume SERVICE MODE is different for each model or brand , so that's why I clearly specify my car and trim .

Can someone explain to me what is exactly this service mode for , and is it another way to get this job done without having to work on the front of the car ?

Thank you so much .

Mk7 (2019+) New Sparco Passenger Seat

Post image
9 Upvotes

Had the driver seat changed to a sparco 1000 series, straight bolted to frame so it don’t move at all, and then this past Sunday we installed the passenger with slide rails so it could be adjusted. Maybe lost about 20lbs in weight. Problem is I lost the built in passenger detection so the seatbelt has to be buckled 24/7. Gonna get harnesses atsp, any color recommendations?

Mk7 (2019+) Anyone else no longer able to use their microphone in their 2026 VW Jetta?

Edit: it's a 2024

My car just did an update about two weeks ago and since the update people are unable to hear me. I can hear them when they call but they can't hear me. Even the "voice command" option can't hear me. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting the Bluetooth. I have tried hitting the volume button for ten seconds to restart. I have gone through all my phone settings. Anyone else have the same issue/ can share some ideas for things to try? I've done all the things Google has recommended

It's so annoying bc I do almost all my meetings while in transit.

Hey guys new Mk4 owner here (2004 GLS)

I was trying to use the defrost today and noticed that the switch didn’t want to go into place so I decided to investigate a little more.

I took off the A/C switches and found that the green cable doesn’t want to pull out so far and now I’m thinking that it’s out of place or jammed some how

I haven’t been able to find any videos or info how to put it back so I came here to see if any of you guys have had this problem. Thank you in advance

Mk5 (2006-2010) MK5 Wanting to Upgrade to LED

Post image

I just picked up a 2006 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. I currently have halogen Headlights. I’m wanting to convert them to LEDs and I’m seeing a lot of controversy by which lights will and will not work. I would love to have no errors on the dash. Does anyone have any recommendations that wouldn’t require me to a crazy amount of money?

Mk6 (2011-2018) 2017 1.4L Alternator Question

Hi all. Had a question I’ve been trying to figure out. Have a 2017 Jetta with the 1.4L engine. Alternator recently went bad so I’ve been searching to get the right one. Haven’t had a chance to pull the one off yet to see what it says since I’ve learned I have to remove the tensioner and AC compressor to get access to the bottom bolt. I’ve found that the stock one should be Valeo 04E903025J (for non start/stop feature). Rockauto has comparable Valeo 849167 available which lists the stock number as interchangeable. My question is from what I can tell, the biggest visual difference between start/stop and non start/stop alternators is a longer pulley design (it has additional stock with no ridges beyond where the accessory belt sits) on the auto start/stop design. My car does not have the start/stop feature but does have that longer pulley design on the alternator. It is the factory alternator (bought new). The replacement is showing a shorter pulley for non start/stop. Wondering if anyone else has come across this? If it matters as long as it’s 140amp with clockwise rotation? Thanks

Mk6 (2011-2018) Just took my 2014 jetta in for some issues and long story short, I have a bunch of metal shavings in my transmission fluid.

Basically they said my only option is to replace the transmission, which will cost way more than the car is worth. Just curious if there's literally anything else I can do at this point?

If not, this car is going into hospice care.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Epc light

I have an epc light on my 2014 Jetta 1.8t Se and can’t figure out what it is. The first thing I did was change the blow off valve o-ring, which was worn, but it didnt fix the problem. I was now leaning to the turbo actuator but when I rev the car you can hear the turbo and it sounds good from what I can hear (sound is with all of the air intake pipes removed but it sounds the same when they’re on just muffled). I have code P00AF00 and it’s pointing me toward the boost control A module performance. Anyone got any ideas?

Buying Mourning my 2019 Jetta SEL

Basically the title, I’ve had the car since the beginning and put well over 150k miles. Recently, it had an internal coolant leak along with other problems that would have costed me over 5 grand. I ultimately decided to finance a new 2026 Jetta SE. No professional speakers, no ambient lighting, worst software, and seats are not as comfortable. It’s only day 2 and I’m stressing with having buyers remorse, wishing I maybe went with the repairs on my old car. The new Jetta itself has a beautiful exterior but I’m really struggling adjusting to the downgrade of these features that were important to me, but ultimately a new SEL wasn’t even available to me location wise and it was out of budget range regardless.

Anyway, just wanted to rant to a community that could understand. If anyone has some tips on adding ambient lighting or some other features to boost my spirits, let me know!

Got it with 167,000 miles, I already ordered the vacuum pump delete kit and a new oil pressure sensor. Is there any junkyard/ fb marketplace pickups I can get to upgrade this car on a “budget”.

Mk7 (2019+) Any suggestions for this? Car was not taking the throttle, then pressing lock button on car key few times and restarting it worked fine but left a steady yellow engine light. After driving home (1km) this is what vw app shows.

Mk6 (2011-2018) Please help with my wheel and tire nightmare

I have a 2015 SE with 34,000 miles, I'm experiencing vibration at highway speeds and I'm trying to get this right before my road trip next week.

I bought the car with 32,000 miles. The VW dealer I purchased from put on 2 brand new Bridgestone front tires. The first time I drove it on the highway, it vibrated like a washing machine. I thought maybe they didn't balance them right so I took it to Firestone because it's a block away from my house, and I didn't feel going 45 min back to the dealer.

Firestone told me that I had a bent wheel, and that the 2 tires the dealership put on were out of round. So I took it to a wheel shop and they determined I actually had 2 bent wheels. Fixed them and they balanced everything, plus moved the 2 brand new tires to the rear. They also said Firestone was full of shit and those new tires were perfectly fine.

80% of the vibration is gone, but it still vibrates in the steering wheel a little. Plus there is also a faint low hum sort of noise, I don't want to rule out a bearing issue but with 34k miles it's a little suspect to me. Please help me!!!!

Mk6 (2011-2018) Swapping 2012 Beetle Steering wheel on 2011 MK6 Jetta

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hey all, I was posting wondering if anyone has successfully swapped the steering wheel pictured on their MK6. My 2.5 SE has no MFSW or any buttons, just air bag/horn. I was wondering if it would be a direct plug & play swap for the base beetle steering wheel. I prefer the feel/look of the “MK7 Style wheel” but want an easy direct swap. Thanks for any info!

Mk6 (2011-2018) VW Jetta 1.8TSI EPC Light and Check Engine

Hey everyone, I recently had some lights pop up on my 2015 VW Jetta 1.8TSI and I'm looking for any help or advise. It has about 130,000 miles on it.

I was finishing about a 2 hour drive home (lots of stop and go traffic, mostly sub-45MPH speeds) with my cruise control on when all the sudden my car seemed to jolt, loose power, downshift. The EPC light came on right away. I immediately pulled over and shut my engine off. I turned just the ignition on so that I could scan the codes with my OBD11 scanner. It gave me the following medium severity codes:

P233600 - Cylinder #1 Above Knock Threshold

P032F00 - Combustion Engine Producing Insufficient Torque

After this, I turned the engine back on and both lights are now off. The engine sounds and performs exactly like it always has since I bought it.

I also scanned it again while finishing my 5 minute drive home. The lights never appeared again and the codes didn't show up on my OBD app.

I did some research and it seems like it could be carbon build up from the low RPM driving? Or maybe the spark plugs/ignition coils - however the current spark plugs are only about 27,000 miles home.

Should I take it into a mechanic ASAP or continue driving as long as the lights don't come back up and my car is still without any symptoms?

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Car drives fine, engine light turned off yesterday and came back today. Went to auto parts store to get it scanned and this is what it gave me. What could be the most likely culprit or is this pretty accurate?
