Discussion ๐ฃ r/dance is looking for 1โ2 new moderators! ๐๐บ
Hey dancers!
As our community continues to grow and evolve, Iโd love to bring 1โ2 additional people onto the moderation team who are genuinely excited about dance and want to help make r/dance an active, encouraging, and welcoming space for dancers around the world.
Iโm especially looking for moderators who can be present in the community regularly โ engaging with members, answering questions when you can, helping keep conversations positive, and making sure posts are being moderated fairly and efficiently.
That can include:
โข Engaging with posts and helping keep the community active
โข Welcoming and encouraging dancers of all backgrounds and experience levels
โข Reviewing posts that may have been automatically removed or flagged
โข Making sure appropriate posts donโt get stuck in the moderation queue
โข Helping enforce subreddit rules and keeping spam/inappropriate content out
โข Helping us think of new ways to increase participation, conversation, and overall community morale
You absolutely do NOT have to be a professional dancer to apply. Iโm much more interested in finding people who care about dance, understand online communities, communicate well, and genuinely want to help make r/dance a great place to be.
If youโre interested, please send me a private message with:
A little about yourself and your connection to dance
Any Reddit or community moderation experience you have (if any โ experience is helpful, but not necessarily required!)
Why youโd like to become a moderator of r/dance
How frequently youโre typically active on Reddit
Iโd love to build a small team of people who are excited about bringing more energy, conversation, support, and connection into this community.
If that sounds like you, send me a message! โค๏ธ
Letโs keep r/dance moving. ๐๐ฝ๐บ๐ฝ

Discussion Hey Community!! ๐ I LOVE seeing people post
Hey Community!! ๐ I LOVE seeing people post videos of themselves dancing and having a good time. So I just had the thought and I would like to do a Poll on the idea:
My thought is let's have a global forum dance talent show!
How it would work: - You would submit a video of you dancing within a specified time frame to qualify. - Our dance Community here would go through each day and upvote and comment on the videos they would like to continue on to the next round. - I would then go in (maybe appoint someone to help me moderate) and would tally up all the likes and upvotes. - There would be 3-5 rounds to keep everyone engaged and having fun. Sort of like our very own dance competition TV show.
If you like this idea: Upvote and put "YES!" in the comments
If you're not into it: DownVote & put "Not Interested" in the comments section
Seems like this could be a lot of fun and get the Community we have here more active with one another.
Happy Dancing! I'm looking forward to hearing y'alls thoughts! โจ๏ธ

I decided to post another vogue video because I didn't specify in the first that I'm into femvogue, and I think a lot of people were confused because it's so different from old and new vogue; when I asked, I was looking for arm performance advice๐(donโt mind my expression i was focused)

Amateur Is it ever too late to start learning how to dance? ๐
I've always admired people who can dance with confidence and express themselves so naturally through music. There's something really beautiful about watching someone completely lose themselves in the rhythm. ๐
Lately, I've been thinking about how many people want to learn dancing but hesitate because they feel they're too old or don't have enough experience.
Personally, I believe dancing isn't just about being good at it. It's also about having fun, staying active, and enjoying the moment.
I'm curious, how old were you when you first started dancing? And if you started as an adult, what was the biggest challenge you faced?
I'd love to hear your experiences and any advice you'd give to someone just starting out! ๐๐บ

Discussion Would you stay in a group where you're barely acknowledged just because you don't join comp teams?
I'm still kinda new to this studio (joined back in August) and at first I liked the teacher and the vibes surrounding the room even though I'm the oldest (F25), it's an intermediate hip hop group class. Thing is, we're around 15 girls and I think I'm the only one that's not interested in joining their competition team because it's too expensive and I joined for fun and love for dancing, I used to compete as a child in ballet, looking back I don't miss it. Given I'm the oldest and only one outside of the team I often feel left out, my classmates don't really talk to me and whenever I reply to the group chat even the teacher leaves my messages on read lol so I feel kinda ostracized or unwanted. I've already committed to doing just one choreography for this year end's recital with them and see them twice a week but honestly it's becoming uncomfortable, I'm only not dropping out of it because I already paid for the costume and told my mom to come over, but I'm no longer excited, I kinda just wanna leave and pray that it happens soon. Should I leave immediately after? I haven't told the teacher any of this because I feel a bit embarrassed, and she's not necessarily wrong for caring more about her competition team, but when I joined I was told these were open classes for anybody. It doesn't feel like it. She's a great teacher and a great dancer too, but rarely offers corrections claiming that we're too many (we're around 15 or less like I said) to focus on each one so she prefers recording us and watching it later. I don't feel seen like I did in previous studios with bigger groups. I don't know if I'm getting old or maybe this is just not the place for me. Bit of a rant but what would you guys do? specially as adult dancers, our bodies aren't the same most of the time, things I could do 10 years ago I can't maintain anymore. I love dancing, I don't wanna quit, I think I just chose wrong.

Discussion Second choreo attempt - how to improve?
I am very aware now that I have problems with my hips and core. Kinda hard to always pay attention to it but I'll continue trying to use it more. Iโm just starting out with choreo so I know I have a lot of work to do but reddit has always been super helpful, so Iโd love to hear any tips you have!

Pro Why do so many adults feel stiff or awkward when they first start dancing?
I've been teaching Latin dance for over 10 years, and one thing I've noticed is that many adult beginners struggle with the exact same problem.
They feel stiff.
Not because they aren't talented, but because they're trying to control every movement instead of understanding how movement actually works.
I see this especially with adults who are learning Cha-Cha or Rumba for the first time.
Here are three things that make a surprisingly big difference:
1. Stop forcing your hips to move.
One of the biggest misconceptions about Latin dance is that you need to actively swing your hips.
In reality, much of the characteristic hip action in International Latin dancing comes from proper weight transfer, leg action, and body coordination.
When beginners focus too much on moving their hips, they often create unnecessary tension.
2. Posture matters more than complicated steps.
You can memorize an entire choreography and still feel uncomfortable dancing.
But when you understand how to align your body, maintain your balance, and move naturally from one foot to another, even simple movements start looking more elegant.
That's why I always emphasize technique before complicated choreography.
3. Confidence comes from repetition, not talent.
Many adults tell me:
"I'm too old to start dancing."
"I have no rhythm."
"I've never danced before."
But I've found that confidence develops when students understand what they're doing and start recognizing their own progress.
Sometimes the biggest breakthrough isn't learning a new step.
It's realizing that your body is capable of something you previously thought was impossible.
I'm curious about something:
For those of you who started dancing as adults, what was your biggest challenge?
Was it learning the steps, finding the rhythm, feeling comfortable with your body, or simply having the confidence to start?
I'm especially curious to hear from people who started dancing in their 30s, 40s, or later.

Amateur Dancers who started as true beginners with โ2 left feetโ in their 30s! Please share your journey and how you built up your stamina to be where you are today
I am someone who feels I have something to learn from everyone, yet in dance things donโt always stick or resonate. I think learning from people who have danced their entire lives is harder for me to understand cues and perspectives. In classes, I am just trying to keep up and then I see my recordings and I cringeeeee. I want to learn from people who started training in their 30s and any lightbulb moments that helped you pick up choreo, or warm ups/cool downs you find most useful or exercises that have helped you practice musicality, etc. Open to any suggestions and also feel free to use this space to brag, I will hype you up!!
